  • This is how I plan my fuel for each flight cross country. Hope you find it useful. This also links to my previous video on VFR Flight Planning, where I show you how I plan my VFR flights. Yes I do also use SkyDemon but I do like a paper copy as a back up in case my iPad fails.
    My aircraft is a Piper PA38 Tomahawk.

    That sheet you had full of aircraft information, where did you get it from or did you make it yourself. i fly pa28-161 warrior iii's and would be nice to have something like this

    Hello, Very good video, currently just started my PPL and a little off this but like to get ahead, just a question, how did you work out your unusable fuel?

    • @av8bear385

      Thank you, I’m glad it was useful. The unusable fuel will be published in the aircraft operating handbook. What aircraft are you flying?

    Thanks for this vid alot im 13 and really want to become a pilot and this video is fab i just want to ask dose dividing the liters by 60 apply to every airplane ? Thanks

    • @av8bear385
      @av8bear385  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes, divide by 60 because I am trying to work out how much fuel is used per minute, hence 60mins in 1hr. So this works for all aircraft. If you want to become a pilot then you should go for it, you will only regret it if you don’t follow your dreams. It will involve hard work, frustration and disappointment at times, but if you put the effort in the feeling of flying your first solo flight will make everything worth while! Good luck and best wishes for your future studies and success!

    Thank you for your videos - hoping to start my LAPL this year and just getting to grips with the flight computer.
    You stated that you would double the fuel amount for the return journey, but would that not depend on wind direction / speed?
    A strong headwind on the return journey would decrease ground speed and then increase the time taken?

    • @av8bear385
      @av8bear385  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, good luck with your LAPL training you will really enjoy it. In the Rory yes it would depend on external factors but because my flight was so short I doubled it. But probably not best practice!

    Just as a redundant safety measure, you probably want to round down your usable fuel amount instead of up. Probably insignificant but definitely better practice

      @Lee Dale got it. Yeah that makes sense. Round down usable fuel and round up unusable fuel as a conservative safety measure.

    There is an error I noticed on your sheet. You have a note saying that VS1 is full flaps stall speed. Actually it is not. But also some flying clubs have this error on their checklists. Just grab any book, search for it on the Internet if you think I am wrong but VSo is the stall speed in landing cpnfiguration with flaps full, and VS1 is the ''clean'' stall speed. Just apply logic: The greater the flap setting, the lower the stall speed. Does it make sense? I am seeing this mistake quite frequent and my eyes just start bleeding. Anyhow, take it in a constructive way. Cheers

      Thanks, yes I understand the mistake thanks for pointing it out. I will add it to the description.

    Hi! I am an engineer and I wanted to ask you a question. Do you think AI or machine learning algorithms will improve calculations for how much fuel is actually required for a journey, taking in account all the factors affecting performance? Please do reply! I am eagerly waiting for your response.

    • @av8bear385
      @av8bear385  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it would improve the speed with accuracy yes but a lot of pilots we are always sceptical about computer technology. Interesting question though and certainly something that will create a debate. I think doing the maths in your head is the safest way still at this moment in time.
