For me, everything comes back to Christ. 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.” His Spirit lives in me. So if I am in fear it is either the enemy or self trying to control. Daily surrender, gratitude, practicing awareness of God in everything.

1 thing that has helped me is one of my doctors said distract yourself from your pain by doing an enjoyable activity or even keeping your busy so you don’t have the time to dwell on the pain so you don’t unconsciously magnify the pain. I learned from the curable app that if you focus to much on something the brain creates more of it since it thinks you are focusing on it because you want more of the pain even though that is the last thing you want.

I’m getting better and better because of the videos Dan creates. I know for 100% sure that what I have is TMS. But where I get stuck is the secondary fear that he talks about. My heartbeat suddenly goes irregular out of nowhere and my automatic fear shows up. My thoughts are like “people can die from this if they have clots in their blood even if this is a mind body problem.” “If I can’t calm down, it could kill me.” And as Dan says this is when I need to be brave and say to myself “OK, I’m totally scared, but I’m telling stories to myself that is very scary to my brain! I probably won’t die from this because I survived this hundreds of times. This is caused by my brain, and I know this will pass soon or later if I calm down.” And I need to do this every single time it happens.

But....fear isn't always about being broken. Sometimes it's about being unable to get out of the house, or across the road. Knowing the facts doesn't allow you to get out of the door. I sometimes watch a lovely horse trainer (I'm in the UK) online working with troubled horses. There's not a lot of difference between a frightened horse feeling vulnerable and a frightened person feeling vulnerable. One was a horse that had an accident in the field, and as a result lost an eye. This was traumatic enough, but she bore with it bravely. But then, because of her changed ability to perceive distance and depth, she kept hitting herself entering her stall. Eventually she couldn't cope with that, and refused to leave it, because she was safe there. A familiar enough scenario for a lot of people. The trainer worked with her patiently and firmly, until she was able to get just one hoof across the line between stable and yard. When she finally got outside, her poor legs were trembling with terror. But in the end she was running joyfully in the field again. Sometimes it isn't knowledge that does it. Sometimes you have to start with one hoof! xx

Yes, great example. And yes, in this video I spoke about taking brave action in order to move forward. That's the part you are talking about.

    • @kateking3953
      @kateking3953 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

@@PainFreeYou I think there must be so many who can identify with this little horse. She had no concept of anything or what the future might hold, only the terror of crossing the line from safety. She didn't know she was being brave, she didn't know she would get her world back. No amount of reassurance could comfort her. I've read all the books and heard all the podcasts and seen all the testimonials. But in the end, nothing touched my heart and broke it open like the sight of that poor creature on her shaking legs stepping into the sunlight.

Yep sometimes we think "better the devil we know"

    • @kateking3953
      @kateking3953 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

@@1STBUCKLEY What I learned from watching the little mare and her patient trainer is that thinking is the least of it. Thinking is what got us trapped in the stable for eight months, metaphorically speaking. Putting one hoof over the line is what will get us outside into the sunlight. It took her a long time before she could get both front feet over the line, and she reversed back into the safety of her stable a lot. But eventually she managed it. Healing a frightened spirit isn't as easy as the books and podcasts make it appear. But if we can make one step, that's a start. And if it's one step each day for a month, that's good. It's a beginning. x

There is an epidemic of fear in the world presently. Fear creates enormous amounts of stress, anxiety and depression which in turn fuels ill health, chronic pain and dis ease. We are all in a process of overcoming fear and suffering not overcoming chronic pain. The pain is calling us to overcome our fears. That's the way I understand this challenge. I hope we all heal from the fear and the healing of the pain will follow. Thanks Dan❤🙏

Needed to hear this today. Beautiful morning here in London ☀️.
Rough night, little sleep. Was actually thinking at 3am I am stuck in fear.
Pushed myself out my bed and drove to church (between masses cos it's quieter)& just sat, listening to the choir practice. Very peaceful. Then drove to the new river, walked and then sat. In way home I stopped at train station & sat on the platform (have a real fear of travel, agoraphobia ,but am desperate to get back out and about). Partner arrived back after he'd been out and about in London, I so miss the little mooches around London town on a Sunday morning. Another little drive n stopped to listen. Am proud & grateful I was able move forward.
Thanks for the video reminder, re fear.

What's been working for me lately when symptoms are high is asking for more. I'm guessing it sends some sort of signal to my brain that I'm not afraid and can handle whatever it wants to give me. Kind of like how you were talking about bravery. Standing up and saying, is that all you got brain? Let's go. Give me more. And just like that, the fear diffuses and the symptoms quiet down. Definitely have to keep practicing moment to moment but am hopeful one day soon this brave response to any symptom will be my default!

Need to make notes on this one, Dan. Especially good for me. I'm doing things based on an old program with what is my ancient default expectation. It's become so automatic, such a learned response, it feels normal and I don't know how to not see that expected future. So this is good awareness and I'm so grateful to spot this. Daily practice. This is my own brain, the patterns are not permanent, things are pliable, malleable.

When you look at the experience under the umbrella of perceived danger, it makes more sense. Perhaps the adjustment did hurt. But the story since then has been that he damaged you. Remember, the body heals. Any injury - if there was any - has already healed. The perception of danger, misinformation and fear is what is keeping the symptoms going. The test is your proof that your pain is behaving like it's perceived danger pain and not some structural injury that hasn't healed.

Wow Dan, this is a very signficant revelation, that the repressed emotions, which must be hurtful emotions drive the fear cycle in your brain and this is what results in symptoms. I have tried to work out for a long time how or why Dr Sarno would say repressed emotions bring on symptoms, why would the brain want you to have symptoms. I used to think that maybe its because the brain thinks physical symptoms are easier to cope with compared to repressed emotions, especially because these past emotions cannot be resolved. What you just said connects the dots and makes perfect sense. Thank you, you are amazing.

I try to imagine 'fear' if it was sat in front of me (in my mind's eye)... Whatever representation wants to come forward is fine.. Though I do try to visualise it as a blob of wobbly colour - a bit like a Jelly Baby sweet.. After all who is afraid to sit and look at a Jelly Baby !
Then I just talk to it - whatever comes into my mind.. No judgement and no censoring... Often times a particular person / incident / situation or memory does come up within my mind at the same time, so I try to stay neutral (- not always easy) and just ask questions or say whatever I'm driven to say ...
After a short while I feel a shift within that is like diffusing whatever I was feeling fearful about - which I guess is my brain calming down...
I personally find when I don't run from my fear emotions but try to do this sequence it helps me rationalise / understand what's been driving my fear emotion in the first place.. Not always - but sometimes..... ❤

Im good at masking it though and smiling to people so that’s good i guess but i become so closed off and feeling shameful for things that weren’t in my control to handle and became too stressed to even go out be social or even being seen by other people

What an excellent video. Havent come across such a great video which explains so simply and clearly why we fell into this trap, why are we failing to recover and what has to be done to get out of it amd live a normal life.

My conscious mind is generally brave but my subconscious is very fearful but you've made me realise that it also gets mixed up with excitement and reacts the same as if I was in fear. If I'm living with fear I get a migraine, if I'm very excited about something I get a migraine - so many trips to the theatre/exciting days out had to be cancelled - even when my son went to college and I was so excited for him not fearful or worried as it was perceived by my family - thank you, I've had a eureka moment and I have something tangible to work on here!

I see myself sitting in agony while other people sing & dance. I think lve been in pain 24 years what makes u think it can stop now? So l will see myself dancing, running even sitting without agony. I see myself WHOLE

Recently I saw the post that was telling that saying to our brain that we are safe is not enough because our nervous system doesn’t speak a cognitive language so it can’t actually understand the words that we are saying and the key to shifting what is happening internally is learning how to work with the nervous system which is what regulation nervous system is all about. Because when we regulate we are communicating safety to our nervous system in a way that it actually understands. We are showing and not telling ourselves that here and now is safe. And that there are various examples of regulation as yoga, humming, swaying, walking meditations ecc.
What do you think about it Dan?
You said in one of the video that nervous system regulation techniques that are now so famous are not so helpful and that we need to teach our brain to feel safety, but don’t we teach our brain safety through nervous system regulation? It can’t fixed itself by just repeating over and over again that we are safe, we have to take some actions to actually prove that it really is.
I will appreciate your answer I am a bit confused about it.
    TY 🙏

Watching again bc brain vs me...zero trust in each other. It laughs at me when I talk nice to it. Doesn't believe a word. How do I know? Bc it hasn't stopped symptoms yet...hoping 1 day the perception chills bc its been a roller coaster. Sure wish I knew what it is so fearful over so i could help correct the inaccuracies in perception . And mostly at night..so weird lol..Thx Dan🎉

The trigger to my bladder pain is emptying it. I'm not avoiding it - that would be impossible - so it's not a question of overcoming avoidance. However, I realise that, when the pain's bad, I do have a subconscious fear of emptying my bladder but it's not within my control to alter that. I don't know how to control my subconscious.
I've had several months of it being really good and during that time I wasn't even thinking about it except sometimes to feel very grateful. But in the past few weeks the pain's returned and I have no idea why. Now it's been like that for quite a while, HOW is my subconscious not going to be fearful? 😢

Mind and body will heal itself like a broken leg.when our leg is broken, do we go itno our mind how to heal it?.its our inbuilt healing system heals it... we r in fight and flight mode, more we worry about our symtomps, more our mind perceive danger and more symtomps...so its a cycle we create by us...if we stop worry and dont engage with negative thoughts and just let the symtomps be there..body will start healing and will come back to balance..just dont worry about it .dont analyse your symtomps...and just know that we are design to come back to balance. Get out of the way of your body...and your body will do the rest..

It can be so hard to stop fear when you know people have pain and they let it go and then end up having a horrible infection doctors can't find and then they die. Sorry.. a little downer, but it's real. I have horrible pain in teeth, jaw and ears. Nothing is found, but so worried it is something bigger they can't find.

The symptoms that seem to be confirned by MRI created the fear..
Bulge got bigger, etc, etc.losing disc height.
      Symptoms increased after the MRI.
The herniation is on the left side says the MRI.
So now , i feel the pain there.
How can that be not structural? Says my brain.
So need to focus on not thinking about the MRI.
      Getting MRI was biggest mistake...
