This "Ferrari" boat built in Switzerland has already been around the world for 25 years, everyone wants to try it, I have tried it in Locarno Switzerland in its first months of release, it is magnificent. A cordial greeting.
Wonder how fast you can go in that thing? Interesting to see if it sets a new record or gives some other interesting data about how more people affects the speed
I remember someone telling me the octuplets (8 person sculling) is dangerous to race because of speed, and I thought it was because it's too fast to put on the water with other boats nearby. But no, it's actually the risk of breaking your wrist or even a rib if you catch a crab. I can't IMAGINE what the risk is when you got more than double the amount of people laying down full power, but damn would I want to be in it just once.
Agreed that sweeps would have been good. The hull sections are made for four rowers each. So the lateral forces are almost completely balanced in each module, and there are only relatively light lateral stresses between sections. Sweeps would have been fine. I am a mechanical engineer by profession, and I do these kinds of calculations frequently. I would 'sign off' on sweeps with no worries. TURNING this thing is another matter in terms of loads between sections. But that is true for both sculls and sweeps.
Reto Himmler, thanks for that information, It is remarkable that all the rowers could stay in time because there are 22 other scullers between them. Is this the longest sculling boat in the world. Some good fantastic video footage and nice music accompanying the video. Thank you MR. stampfli
2 dozen scullers, with their stubby oars, still make good speed. Tantalizing side-by-side with the coxed 8... Does TH-cam suggest rowed Viking ships for you?
We have these races in Samoa yearly and its awesome to watch. Hopefully one day they'll change to these smaller boats but their sheer sizes now are something else. Fautasi races they're called.
Wonderful! I have long thought that rowing should bring in eights *sculling* - where each rower has two oars, not just one. I think that would be *great!*
@@retohimmler4309 - I've seen another video where bow 4 and stern 4 were rigged for sweep and the mid 16 were rigged for sculling. I think it was for some charity event in the US for breast cancer awareness?
the reason they dont do that is because theese boats would become competitive and really fast like 1:10- splits and if someone caught a crab they could get seriously injured or die
Needs to be sent to Tokyo 2020 as some speed record attempt using 24 of the fast rowers on the planet.
BuT tHe WrIsT pRoBlEmS!!!
1person or 2person are way faster
@@jasmijnariel 1. not true
2. Definitely not true when they end up upside down (the single especially...)
@@jasmijnarielThere’s a reason the world record for men’s single 2k is 6:30 but 8 boat world record is 5:18.
I wanted to see them turn around . . .
At 5:50 you can see, that Nr 1 gives the paddle to Nr 2 and Nr 2 gives its paddle to 3 and then they pull at these rows. Goes quite good :-)
"BOW 23 YOU'RE EARLY"
Do you mean the one close to the Cox?
Thats our Chef Leistungssport :-)
Reto Himmler Perhaps ;)
All jokes aside, amazing video!
Hee hee
It's a 24x+
i want to see some good rowers in this boat
It's not that bad now. Imagine 24 rowers
@@infoschoenpoetsmachines4948 imagine 24 good ones
I had a chance to row in this and it was so much fun. Yeah, we had trouble clearing our puddles also, but when it comes down to it I had fun.
imagine being the cox and going "alright im gonna get bow 12 to take it away"
Kolossal und harmonische! Herzlichen Glueckwunsch! Danke fuer schoene bilden und aestetische bewegung.

would be stressful to cox...thank god they were the only ones on the river haha
Wonder how fast you can go in that thing? Interesting to see if it sets a new record or gives some other interesting data about how more people affects the speed
Speed is dependent on waterline length
I remember someone telling me the octuplets (8 person sculling) is dangerous to race because of speed, and I thought it was because it's too fast to put on the water with other boats nearby. They're not even clearing their puddles
Amazing how a 8+ seems so small next to it
Even though I'm mainly a sculler they should have made this shell with Sweeps but I understand that would have put unbalanced stress on the hull.
Agreed that sweeps would have been good. The hull sections are made for four rowers each. How many pulling power would those 24 have?🤔 would be interesting to know
Power 10 in two
it was a really nice experience :-)
imagine going on the water for a normal rowing session and seeing this thing
yes was a really cool experience. Best regards Reto
it was a really nice experience :-)

i love how this boat has to be rigged in the water, because it's too big to lift!
When human centipede is aired on Eurosport.
That's a small Coxswain seat.
Rather, a big coxswain.
Schöne Bilder, schöne Limmat. Ich hoffe es wird mehr naturiert.
Das Limmattal hat wunderschöne Seiten. Nicht nur Rangierbahnhof und A1 ;-)
I spotted a break in the timing between the stroke and the bowman
the reason might be: Stroke man rowed on Olympia 2017 and Bow man is our President which is 70 years old :-)

Reto Himmler Wann waren denn 2017 Olympische Spiele? 😉
I wanna see what their 500m split is
Bow is already there
After one stroke they already going faster than I am sprinting....
Is that a 5 part boat!?
Looks like a catterpillar at 3:50
24 rowers and 1 rudder , very beautiful and fan
What is the oar length - inboard - spread?
Shots directly from above are hipnotyzing xD
I want to row this!!!!!

Quite enjoyed 2X, many years ago, this 24X is just mental! Good for a giggle though... surely that quad didn’t burn them off?
it is so much fun. I do have it in very good memory :-)
But if you go on a wave it will brake into teo parts

I don't even want to think about what happens if you crab an oar.
There should be heats and finals for this event in the olympics
When the Cox says rate 40

You probably wouldn’t even notice cause there is so many people

You are right. This was a present for our President of our rowing club. He got 70. and he's still in a very good shape :-)
Damn thing looks like a centipede went for a swim.
The Athenian trireme we rowed in Greece and on the Thames had 170 oars. Google it. Dr COATES who designed it died only recently
Talk about timing 👀

In deed! Just great.
Unfortunately we just hired that boat. The Boat can be hired by Stäpfli. it was a really nice experience :-)
