    Thank you so much for an incredibly informative and helpful video! My local dealer quoted me nearly $2000 for this job. However, I sourced the parts online for $150. And, with my own labour and your video I finished the job over an afternon. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your expertise as I am certainly not a mechanic and it would have been impossible on my own! It is greatly appreciated!

    Great video. I believe you were showing in writing where you were and what you were removing but then i dont believe i seen the wroting in 2 or 3.
    I am doing one now.
    So the gasket replacement, i was shopping end before i watched your last video i see online it is sold with a valve cover as well!? Never seen a valve cover sold with a gasket!? Most of the time the valve cover is resuable but i guess VW is directly letting you know your initially is weak!?
    Second, the fuel lines i did not disconnect i didnt see your part 3 yet and i removed the manifold and left the injector line there however removed those small torx right underneath i believe they hold the rail it pull on the rail a little and a little fuel came out but i guess lucky for me the truck is on empty for the most part, this was last night, today is a new day and hopefully when j go pop the hood i will not see any crack fuel line!? Haha
    Anyways great video, i have oil in 3 and 4 coil whole and i am hoping it is just the gasket and it makes sense how this gasket has the wholes in the center.
    I am unsure if i am going to buy the valve cover or just the gasket, i guess when i remove it today i will see bow it looks internally!?
    Sorry for the long feedback and questions.

    thank you for the video, could you have removed the vacuum hoses on the right to make the removal of screws easier, since i am planning to work on mine, i was inspecting the area and thought of removing them, also while inspecting the route i broke the vacuum solenoid plastic hose, can i remove that thin plastic pipe with a thicker one with bigger hole so more exhaust air can be sucked? please advice

    • @mechdjango3490
      @mechdjango3490  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes you can remove all the vacuum hoses. I usually try to move them the least amount as possible in case they have begun to crack. As far as the one you broke you should be able to make a new one with rubber fittings and new vacuum line.

    I broke the hose from the vacuum solenoid on the front leading to the solenoid under the manifold on the right side. I tried rigging it with electrical tape but it’s running like garbage. Could that hose be the issue? It’s running almost like it’s missing.

    I’m currently in the process of doing this exact job.. hopefully this comment gets to you before I mess anything up lol. I’m about to remove the manifold, but am concerned about the lower fuel rail. Are there clips that hold the rail to the injector or are the three lower bolts that hold the manifold/lower fuel rail the ones holding the fuel rail to the injectors? I got the manifold completely unbolted and it can be wiggled around, should I just be able to carefully pull the manifold off and the lower fuel rail should just slip off the injectors? All help is greatly appreciated!!!!

    • @mechdjango3490
      @mechdjango3490  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Take off the bolts that hold the rail it's a lot easier that way in my opinion

    Bro I really wished you had shown how you put that intake back on I just got finished doing a 08 Q7 I had to do the valve cover and decarbonize the intake valves and oh my freaking God. Fighting the little tiny windy fuel line at the back was difficult to say the least. But I got it done. Oh and while cleaning the intake valves you know how you have to make sure they're both closed when you're cleaning them right and on that engine two valves are right up front and two valves away in the back you know what the long Runner I closed the wrong set of valves on one cylinder and I almost made a big fat mess it it was a learning experience to say the least.😓

      James, ditto on the install and the bendy fuel pipe in the back...good lord if I only had the ability to reach back through a time warp hole to the the neck of the person who designed this layout, I would squeeze real hard for as long as it took me to get this part done! ....and a couple of other things...being sure to disconnect the battery so when you open the door, it won't prime the fuel injectors and spray gas all over the engine bay once a pipe is loose, and how about making it a little easier to get to the battery terminals? Have fun removing the back seats to get to the fuel tank access panel and digging into the fuel tank to replace the fuel filter, and fuel pump. Watch those connectors when you put them back, one of mine popped off a day later driving through a tunnel on the way to work....that was all on me. All done now, but a learning experience for sure. So mine is a 2007 also, and now 13 years later, most cars that year will have roughly 130K to 140K on the od. Anyone that has one will be looking at this video to help them remove the intake manifold in order to clean the carbon from the valves, clean the carbon from the fuel injector nozzles, and replace the valve cover, which by now, has all the gaskets as hard as rocks and starting to leak. Also, a bunch of plastic vacuum hoses are now finally giving up their life expectancy and cracking at the connections.
      Like you said, cleaning out the carbon from the near intake valves was easy, but the far ones not so much. You have to use whatever you can. I would be careful with wire brushes as I noticed lots of wire coming off the brushes. You have be blow the ports out thoroughly when you are done. I even tried using bundles of long zip ties and stabbed as much, and as long as possible, while soaked with brake cleaner. I bought a walnut media blasting kit from Harbor freight, but being a first timer, I did not use it in case i left a valve open by mistake. Oh, and I did exactly the same thing you did by rotating the engine thinking I had closed the valves on a far side, but was looking at the wrong cam. That happened and I figured it out when the brake cleaner disappeared down into the cylinder as I sprayed it in there. Glad it wasn't walnut shells! I should have made a video because it took me many hours to watch over 50 videos combined to do everything I did. I watch the above one many times. Loosening the bendy fuel pipe is key, I didn't and bent the pipe when I tried to rotate the intake manifold. Took a bit of extra work to get it bent back and aligned. I watched videos on cleaning the fuel injectors, they are $500 to $800 to replace. I bought seal kits and replaced them. Had to buy go out and buy 3 extra kits (1 for just in case) because I wasn't careful enough while slipping on two of the Teflon seals on and ruined them. I must say, the biggest take away is the feeling of accomplishment for getting this whole job done and not handing $3, 000 - $4,000 to a dealer who's work could be suspect. I like this car, how it drives, what it can tow, and how it looks.

      In the fuse box under the hood rear drivers sode.corner remove the fuse (there are two fuses that face sideways. remove the fuse that is closer to the passenger side of the car.) That's the fuel pump fuse.

      That was the same question i had and it is tricky but i have seen other vidoes where they detach a few of the lines and the engine lift bracket for easier re install.
      I am doing now but i think i cracked the upper connector that goes to the connector that stays with the manifold because i have fuel leakage and from what i have experienced that is the toughest part of this because the fuel line are tight no room.
      🤷🏻so now i have to go back in maybe jbweld or i may have to freagin replace the top line..ugh..
