    Had the pleasure of meeting him this year at nationals. All I can say is wow what a helpful humble guy. He took the time to tell lil me to answer the question I had Couldn’t be prouder to be joining the sport at this time with incredible ppl like norm and f class John. There are others but those two took the time above just giving a lil back. They went above what is expected from the pros of our sport. Thank you Norm.

    Every sport teaches us one very important thing, which no other thing in life can teach. It teach you how to loose and accept it and still get a chance to try again.
    Notice in all these news talk shows, media or at work or education, nobody knows how to loose.
    And other thing it teaches us is collaboration, even in the individual sport. Thank you for that Erik.

    Erik, can I please make a request? Will you please make a short video explaining the rules and scoring for F-Class? It will make it a lot easier to follow several of these interviews if you do.

      The basics
      F T/R = Target rifle
      F Open = Open class gun.
      T/R must weigh less then 8.25Kg (about 18 pounds) and must be chambered in either 5.56/.223 or 7.62 nato/ 308 win. With no restriction on bullet weight. T/R rifles allow the use of Bipods only for front rest and a rear bag. Bipods are included in the weight of the gun. Any safe trigger of any weight, no release triggers. Any scope or iron sights. no scopes that project light onto the target (Laser sights) Yes it's a rule.
      F Open is a max 10KG (about 22 pounds) gun that can be fired from a machine rest and rear bag so long as the two are not mounted on the same surface. (Think rail gun) if a bipod is used the bipod is included in the weight of the rifle. Caliber is limited to .35 bore or what ever the range limit is. again any scope or iron sight.
      Scoring.
      targets are as follows
      X Ring = .5 moa
      10 Ring = 1.0 moa
      9 Ring = 2.0 moa
      8 Ring = 3.0 Aprox moa
      Course of fire is typically 3x1000 meaning three strings of fire at 1000 yards. This can be shot with unlimited sighters or limited sighters
      Unlimited sighters and 20 shots for record is fired in a time limit of 30 minutes and limited sighters is 2 sighters and 20 shots for record in a time limit of 22 minutes. You get a three minute warning to your prep time of two minutes. prep time is when you set your gear up, get your rifle pointed at the target sitting on the rear bag and bipod or front rest and you may dryfire. At the command "With one round load" you load your rifle and wait for "you may fire when your targets appear" command. and the timer begins.
      Palma F class is 800 900 and 1000 yards with 20 shots for record shot at each distance usually with limited sighters.
      Scorers can only record your score and tell you how many rounds down you are in the course of fire, The can not coach in any way. a typical call out from the scorer would be. "X -12 on" meaning the last shot was an X and that was your 12th shot for record. they are not allowed to say "X at about 3 o'clock - 12 on" That's coaching. They cant even say "watch the wind" once you start shooting your record shots.
      Team matches can be run a bit differently sometime that are two shooters shooting side by side at the same time with a scorer and wind coach, and sometimes they are shot individually for a team score. I have not shot a lot of team matches so I will not guess at this. It would be cool for Erik to put this in a video though

    Shooting in the rain. It can be wonderful. I was shooting at Elbow Mtn. in Arkansas years ago in a Palma Match. It was misting rain at the 1,000 yd. stage. I could barely see the target. I focused my spotting scope and could watch how much the rain drops slanted in the wind. That was the best wind indicator I have ever had! I shot my best 1,000 yd. score up to then. I believe it was 150-10X. The next relay gave up. They couldn’t see the target anymore. At least I wasn’t in the pits!

    Please excuse the rookie question but how do you wind up with 200-22x's on what I'm assuming is a 20 round group? Are the sighters counted on the x total?

    One of the great things about this sport is that even a wannabe like me can meet the champions. I have been squaded with Mid Thompkins and David Tub at different times in the Wimbledon match at Camp Perry. I suppose Camp Perry is gone now.

    What does "9 one on" mean?

    • @kenthall6584
      @kenthall6584 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      First shot was a 9, dropping a shot/ point

    • @edonsmith8616
      @edonsmith8616 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That means that the shooter during sighting in was likely confident that the rifle was on the target prior to going for Score. Then the first shot was a 9 ( meaning they missed the bullseye or the 10 ring) on the very first shot. In F class we get unlimited sighters before going for score. So a nine one on means the shooters first shot was a miss and they dropped a point,

    • @dinoc.5537
      @dinoc.5537 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you lay down to start your string in F-Class, you have a total time limit, but unlimited sighters. So you start shooting and when you decide to go for record, the scorer will call out what he sees on your target and how many shots you have "on" the record. So, if you have your act together, you should only call for record when you are ready and can shoot a 10 or X with confidence. But, if you screw up and shoot a 9 on the first shot, then it is a 9 one (shot) on. The other common mistake is to end an otherwise clean string with a "9 twenty and all out".

      Shehane is what?

    • @shaunmiller291
      @shaunmiller291 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theunforgivenpuritan4102 284 Shehane is a slightly modified wildcat that retains the same 35° shoulder as the parent case. However, by blowing the sidewalls out 0.010″, the . 284 Shehane picks up about 3.3 grains of extra case capacity

    • @BelieveTheTarget
      @BelieveTheTarget  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      One small correction: The Shehane is not a wildcat, it's an improved case. Other than that, it's all correct.
