ive got this exact guitar, came with a warped neck, inlays have fallen out and the pickguard fell off, but after 5 years of beating it, the damn thing stays in tune and has a killer sound!
@@hairmonster12 Just thought I'd point out that you could have EASILY found a used Washburn for a hundred bucks that would have had a straight neck, decent action, a solid top, and sounds WAAAAY better. It too would still sound good and stay in perfect tune after 18 years of use.

I can say that 12 years ago, my mom and dad bought one of his guitars off HSN for $100.00. I now player a Taylor Koa T5 and a couple other Taylor. However, on occasion, I'll get that Esteban classical guitar out and play it. It's worn out and looking like Willy Nelson's guitar but I will say, it still sounds good. Maybe it's just sentiment lol but I like his old style guitars and not the ones with glitter. Lol
I knew Esteban from when I lived in Phoenix and he had a regular gig at the Hyatt Scottsdale. He was entertaining and good, but he clearly has his fraudulent backstory re: "learning under Segovia" and the guitar itself is the singular worst piece of shit I've ever played, counting thousands of guitars. I was high one night and figured if it was playable at all it was worth $100 but it was unplayable and fell apart inside a year and that was just sitting in a room. Horrible.
The Billboard chart that most think of is the Hot 100. According to Bilboard, Esteban's album "Heart of Gold" peaked at 53. His other albums were at 54, 159, 179 and 192. So, his best was 53/100, which by my 3rd grade math says 53%. My 3rd grade math teacher would call that an "F" for failure. Not exactly "topping the charts" is it?

Seriously I own an Esteban Guitar. I'll admit the action is uncomfortably high, but I feel his guitars were a good introduction to people who didn't want to spend tons of money seeing if they would actually stick with it. Everyone complaining about his guitars should compare any other 60$-100$ guitar on the market.

My mom bought for my dad back then and it is still functioning to this day. Just recently installed the "tonebar" device and put some D'addario NB XT Lts on it for my dad to practice. It has a good enough sound(made more resonant with tonebar) and relatively easy to play (with XL strings). They weren't all garbage.

Not all telesales Esteban guitars (according the reactions below) sounded crap and given that most of them were sold in a package that contained video tutorials, $100 doesn't sound like a terrible rip-off. I came across and watched "Esteban's Complete Guitar Course for Beginners" and it is actually pretty good even a tad bit ambitious. His Jack Nicholson 'lite' manner of presentation in these tutorial videos is surprisingly agreeable to watch. In one of the reactions below somebody posted a link to an article in the Phoenix New Times, the journalist who wrote that newspaper article tried to uncover the truth about 'Esteban', but Esteban believing so firmly in his own personal mythology kind of makes that a truth in itself, one that his audience and fans were willing to accept and embrace. Just my two cents vs the band wagon of easy ridicule...
You could easily find a better newer guitar these days...but I saw an old guy who had been playing probably 50 years and he made it sound pretty good, the action (that's the space between the strings and the fingerboard if you didn't know) was really high, and would be hard to play chords past the major chords positions, with a setup and quality strings it probably could be a decent guitar, but I'd seek out a decent cheap Epiphone or Washburn first...I've personally never encountered an Esteban, but based on the information I'd say avoid if you don't know how to set it up or have a good local music store you could take it to for a setup.
esteban guitars are actually really great entry level guitars. no, they are not for seasoned/professional musicians, but for anyone wanting to learn how to play guitar it is a pretty solid way to go. i mean, think about it - he has made learning guitar actually affordable for many people who would otherwise just not be able to buy a guitar and learn how to play it. i have some videos of him playing with the cleveland symphony on my channel. check 'em out.

GOD, I want one of these guitars so bad I can't stand it. I've been picking up aluminium cans off the highway to save up for it. So far I've got $13.56 -- almost half way for enough for the first payment! This is truly my life dream to get my hands on one of these guitars. On most guitars you can hit the harmonic on the 12th fret… BUT with the Estaban you can on the 5th 7th AND 12th

Ahhhh....not really...I didn’t see anything amazing... I’ve been playing since I was 6, was classically trained, self taught other styles, music minor and played professionally for awhile...he’s not that good at all, dude. Maybe to someone who’s only been playing a few years...or a child

GOD, I want one of these guitars so bad I can't stand it. I've been picking up aluminium cans off the highway to save up for it. So far I've got $13.56 -- almost half way for enough for the first payment! This is truly my life dream to get my hands on one of these guitars. Next on my list of goals is to get one of those styling leather hats. No idea how much that costs, but I hope he comes out with a payment plan on those too. Peace out...
