I guess I'm not much different from your four year old, because that little chainsaw is growing on me to the point where I'm almost considering buying one for no reason at all.
Ive used the heck out of that saw for five years and it is still going strong....never once had it stop like that on metal......of course I use the correct blades for the material I am cutting. I also use their impact drill drivers and have punished them for the same five years one of those died recently after an exceptionally grueling session. I also have no complaints about the battery performance. I will admit I take good care of my tools and do not abuse them too much. They are light but pretty rugged.
Stanley owns all sorts of companies now... Craftsman, B&D, Dewalt, Irwin, Lista, MAC tools, Bostitch, Proto... They're becoming the Disney of the tool world!

I know it's not a fair comparison, but damn, my old porter cable Tiger Saw would eat this thing alive (along with 22 years worth of truck bodies, trees, car frames, rear axles, drywall, whatever).

So funny story with this saw. A friend of mine owns a diesel shop and works on medium and heavy duty trucks as well as pickups. We were doing a lot of exhaust *cough* “modifications” at one point and our sawsall shit the bed on us late one night. Bear in mind in a small town we have wal mart and Lowe’s to choose from so we went to Lowe’s and picked one of these babies up. We figured if we get a few uses out of it the 40 bucks was well worth it and we could finish the job we were on. So fast forward through about two years of very heavy use and neglect and the ole porter cable is still kickin. It’s been one of the best battery sawsalls I’ve seen. We have left this thing in the rain and fully submerged it in various engine fluids over the course of its life. Dropped it from the top of trucks and probably ran it over a time or two and it is still going. I don’t disagree with your knowledge on the engineering side of this thing however I can fully say it is one tough little saw! Great video nonetheless!
My first Porter Cable was purchased back in 2007.. now, 2019, most of my tools are Porter Cable and I have never had any issues or complaints. I am a full time general contractor..
I have this same saw and she is pretty tough. it has been scrapping with me many times and cut lots of things from small I beams to rebar. Also has been dumpster diving, cut mufflers, tires and used to cut down trees to make a motorcycle trail. She has survived the abuse and extreme heat and cold and has earned its keep for going out scrapping or dumpster diving.
Most of the Porter Cable stuff is older Dewalt clones. Being an orphan they are a parts bin tool brand. They arn't innovating new stuff but simply taking existing parts/engineering from Dewalt to make a tool for loyal consumers(wood workers). So what parts are they using: if you view schematics of internals you'll see they simply reuse the older 18V Dewalt(NiCD) tools with Porter Cable plastics over them. This can be clearing seen with tools like the 1/2 impact Dewalt DW059HB vs PORTER-CABLE PCC740B. So the tools are pretty much 5-10year old Dewalts running on new lithium. Definitely not top by today's standards but not the bottom of the barrel.
Porter plug in belt Sanders, pneumatic nail guns, circular saw, router, and a host of bench tools.. circa late 90's early 2000's were AmAaazing! The places they put metal instead of plastic was similar to Milwaukee.
You're right about the 743 being one HELL of a circular saw! I've had mine for over 20 years, used it in a professional construction environment for at least 15 years of that, and I'd still put it up against anything out there. Arguably the single best circular saw ever made. I know alot of guys in the business that go on and on about worm drives, but I think they're too heavy and bulky. Broke my heart to find out they quit making it!
I still have my 1990's plugin TigerSaw. The only thing I replaced on it was the power cord strain relief which dry rotted. Other than that, it still works fine.
My Dad had a Porter Cable jig saw from the '60s that was an absolute work of art. The thing had like 3 different gear cases that all ran in different weights of oil. He ended up with it for free when one of the oil plugs rattled out and it stripped the teeth off a gear. He went down to the actual tool store (long since closed), ordered the actual gear that failed, repaired it, and used the piss out of it for the next 30 years until someone finally stole it. I just hope the dickhead that stole it actually knew what he was getting and didn't just take it in for scrap metal. That would be the worse crime. PC has been just about total junk for about 20 years now. My 15 year old PC Sawsall is only a mere shadow of what that old jigsaw was (but still did come with an exploded diagram of EVERYTHING and the part numbers for the stuff) and the new stuff is just about not worth owning at all.
I had the portacable saw you speak of . Loved that saw when it fell off the scaffolding and plummeted to the ground blowin apart from the 40ish foot fall i buried it and said a few words. I too liked that blade on the good side. It now rests in pieces under a house in seaisle city south Jersey. Incase anyone needs parts

I have had Porter Cable drills and impacts for the past 15 years. I have had Zero issues except for the over moulding coming off. I only upgraded for more power and I figured it was time for a fresh drill. I donated the old ones to my apprentice. They still run strong after years of abuse.
I've had a Porter Cable 20V set for some years now. Got a great deal. Use them quite a bit, for a home user... Even ponied up and got the 1/2" impact wrench. I like them. Haven't let me down yet.
I got the 20V set at Costco. The dinky circular saw is crap. The Saw Zaw spits out blades. The impact is solid and so is the drill. Battery charger is 1 at a time.
@@FlipTheTables I've used the circular saw for long rip cuts of decking with no issues. The 4ah battery helps. The key with the blade lock on the recip is to make sure the quick lock is fully engaged into the blade.
Maybe just me but AvE reminds me a bit of the mysterious cowboy tester in the old Live it Up TV series. Carrying the torch of consumer protection for the next generations. Jerry Wick Grip it and rip it. Same with the drill. Better wind up the cord good and tight cause when she snags, it's taking your wrist with it. I prefer my tools to have not been feminized.
I have an identical sawzall here in New Zealand. In every aspect the same as the Porter Cable you’ve reviewed here. Here it is branded as Stanley Fat Max (more “trade quality” than standard Stanley products) I got it free with a drill, impact driver combo from Stanley Fat Max. It’s been given hell by myself and the builders I employ. mainly used on demolition/remodelling of older houses. The builders love it as it’s much lighter and more compact than the Makita cordless sawzall the usually use. I’ll send pics to you when it wears out or breaks - so you can compare your comments about weak points or poor design/materials. Several of us love your videos reviews of tools/devices/life in general. Keep up your great work. Ken
I've got a bunch of these Porter Cable 20v tools. I just use them for home and auto repair so they don't get used much. But when I need them, they work pretty good.
I recently had the pleasure of replacing the missing drive belt for a Delta miter saw. My dad gave me the saw because it doesn't work without the belt and he got it for free from a cabinet-maker friend because it doesn't work without the belt. My dad assured me that I could just "go online and get the replacement part from Delta." Yeah... As far as I can tell Delta hasn't stocked or sold that part for well over a decade... Well before the brand was sold. I did find a third party replacement, so all is well. I guess.
For belt replacement, if it's a standard V belt, just use a link belt if a regular replacement is hard to find. You can make it whatever length it needs to be and they cause less vibration.
I've got link belts on everything I own. I'll never use those old rubber v-belts again. Harbor Freight sells a link belt made in the European Economic Community. It's good to go.
Cool. I've heard some good things about those link belts. The drive belt for this Delta saw is a toothed timing belt, so I couldn't have used a link belt.

I understand that it isn't for a professional, but for me, the weekend warrior it does the job. When my saw stops " Choochin " It will go in the recycling bin and I will buy another saw. I've got a P-C jigsaw that was my dad's. Talk about a VERY nice tool! Couldn't sell it at yard sale for even 5 bux, and paid about $14 for new L-blades. Prolly never use it, but it's just too good to throw out.
Nothing disappoints me more than when a bunch of MBAs take what was a good brand and use it to hawk cheap junk. Porter Cable used to be a good brand of woodworking tools. Now their corporate overlord is just using the name to suck money out of consumers.
At my old job we had about 3 or 4 different brands of power tools. So someone modded all of the batteries to fit every model of their tools. The Porter cable ones fit the dewalt tools and were cheeper.

as a commercial electrician i used porter cable tools everyday for a year and a half before i switched to Milwaukee. all the credit to them, they kicked ass
I heard you say “real cheapskates” and that immediately brought me out of my slumber. I pulled apart an 18v Rockwell recipro saw yesterday and found good and bad as well. The case was well made with lots of bracing and the whole internal assembly was all metal, probably pot metal, but I was surprised that there was no plastic. The weak link looked to be a very flimsy “scotch linkage” drive mechanism which also creates quite a bit of vibration. Maybe that’s why my Makita uses a bearing as a swash plate. More expensive to manufacture but way more durable and a lot less vibration. Anyway I’m so cheap that I pulled mine out of a bin to use the internals for a rattle can shaker and thankfully everything seems to work properly. The idea is that the whole unit will be mounted on a wall with 230v input and a timer so I can just load the can, set the timer for 3 minutes and come back when the bell goes off. So far everything has been free as the drive mechanism came from a bin, the timer from an old mechanical microwave and the power supply from a dead laptop. Everything else I can fabricate myself so the whole thing will be free. Yep, I sure am cheap. I knew I had been watching to much AvE when I described the trigger as being “chinsie”. Somewhere there is an old guy who once proudly worked for Porter Cable, gave an honest shit about his work and the product and his company, who has a little tear in his eye and almost wishes he'd died already like most of his friends.
Porter Cable was bought by Stanley Black & Decker. They are the parent company to Craftsman, DeWalt, Irwin, Lenox, Proto, Facom, Stanley, MAC Tools, Vidmar, Bostitch and Black & Decker to name a few. I believe they also used to own Delta but sold it to Chervon or something.
This reminds of what happened to Sidchrome, which was an Australian hand tool company. It was bought out by Stanley (as it was then) who immediately shut the whole thing down and turned it into a zombie brand selling rebadged foreign-made Proto and Facom etc. The whole deal was basically an asset-strip/elimination of a competitor.
I got all these battery powered porter cable tools. Home owner Shit for sure. I’d never use them for work but around the garage for half the money they get the job done.
Yeah, they are just fine... not going to build a house with them. Although I probably could until they died... but I'm under no delusion that's what they were purposely built for. But the batteries are a great deal cheaper than other brands.
I too own a PC circular saw. My dad bought back in 1960 at the Army & Navy in Victoria. Of course it was when 7" blades were the size. 2 years later the saws moved up to 7 1/4" and stayed that way for many years. Meaning, if I want a 7" saw blade...I would have to luck out at garage sales. Mine still has the steel blade that needs sharpening. Carbide tips were not a thing yet. I did luck out and did get 1 blade with carbide tip missing the odd tooth. Still have original carbon brushes in the 120 volt corded motor. (I have been meaning to take them out to see if there is any brush left. Some other day I guess. Built 3 houses with it so far.
I have a Milwaukee cordless sawzall ( the one that looks like a corded one) in 18 volt, that I have had for 10 years. I used it professionally for four years installing cabinets, and it is still better than the 6 amp range corded. The only ones that work as well are the 10+ amp ones. The original batteries toasted out long ago, but the AGGA replacements on eBay are far superior anyway.
I primarily bought one just for cutting out windows in OSB. It does alright on lumber, but yeah, it is not really tough enough for doing a lot of metal fabrication tasks.
For as much as you rip on the "Cryobis", I'd thought you'd have cracked one of their staple products like a drill or a saw open by now? The green ones seem to hold up just as good as the Milwaukees or Dewalts these days.
Pepsiaddicto Their new brushless hammer-drill (which if you bought the combo w/ batt and charger came with a free brushless tool of your choice) actually has a real rotary hammer action and not just a click ring. The whole chuck moves back and fourth like a rotary hamer. Suprised the hell out of me.
Pepsiaddicto ive rode mine hard not expecting it to last very long doing mechanic work for a paving company down right abuse it and its still chooching got it to fill a gap between two higher end tools that i use most its built better then that thing for sure!
I have the ryobi stuff for home use. It's ok for that. Nothing like the makita i used to have when i was renovating the old house. That thing lasted 15 or so years before one of the nimh batterias gave up. So i sold it on...

Vega Tech results may vary there made and owned by the same company. I've hammered on my ryobitch, spilled hydraulic fluid on it,it wallers in the dirt,diesel&asphalt working on asphalt paving equipment wasn't expecting it to last long boy was wrong owned it for 3 yrs now!
They aren't even mid range consumer grade. My dad got their costlier corded sawsall and got roughly an hour of non continued use until it started smelling nice and nastily hot then started smoking. I took a look at it by plugging it in and running it with no load and it smelled hot and started pouring smoke almost instantly. He ended up going back to his 40-50 year old saw from the "same" brand despite the jammed on switch and missing parts and bare copper spotted cord.
At least fix the cord, that just needs some shrink tubing, something to cut the cord with, and a soldering iron. You probably don't want the old man to get shocked on accident.
@Sebastian Johansson I've not only tried, I've also made him a replacement cord and been hounding him to let me install it and weld the shoe back together so it's at least usable.
I purchased the impact and drill combo from Porter Cable about 4 years ago. The impact breaks loose my lug nuts on my race car very fast. Where my snap on 3/8 14v couldnt budge them. I still use the drill and impact combo everyday at my shop. Love them so much I ended up getting a second set. The only problem I ever had was the impact was too strong and broke any Chuck I could find. I finally found one from Snap-on which would hold the torque. I would be very interested and seeing you test the 20-volt lithium impact from Porter Cable!
I'm thankful you did that review. I've been seeing their ads for 3 tools recip, drill, light, 2 batts and charger for 1 low price. That ain't nothing more than a ryobi.
They blow ryobi away..,,,,I bought a big set of this stuff five years ago and only had to replace the impact driver recently but it was used heavy everyday. Dont be afraid of them it is a great deal.....if they are as good as the ones I bought....they may have cheapened but I have a new impact driver and it seems as good as the original

No, it's actually a schmoo remover. You need enough friction to release the schmoo, that's the key. Many guys give up after a few thrusts. Hence why this tool is the better choice for finacky customers.
no, Topcraft, Parkside is from Lidl. I got a few of those X-team cordless tools too, they look the part, but they feel more like an under powered toy than a serious tool, still not bad, 3 tools and 2 batteries for 170€...
so they do sell tools in American Aldi's too, or are you in the UK ? what brand name do they go with? we had "Topcraft" since forever and the tools had a Belgian importer but last year they suddenly had a new brand called "Duro" and the tools come from Germany now
At the Aldi's near me (inner inner city ones) they go very quickly. The brand I got is Workzone and I just got the box out ...it is a 3 yr warranty. There is no real tool selection, it's just first come first serve. The stores are almost always fairly packed. I'm in the midwest USA.
All my Greenworks 40v tools have spring eject battery. It's really handy on the chainsaw and helps on the others. The battery is huge (10s2p 18650 2100mah), and would be hard to pick out of the machine without it. It keeps the battery from rattling and makes the spade connections to the devixe.last longer
The Canadian Tire Maximum Lithium drills seem pretty decent. Name brand parts, individual cell balanced battery charging. 5 year in-store warranty (no questions asked).
I picked up the 4-tool combo kit when they went on sale for $150 a couple years ago. I've had good luck with the tools and the batteries. Good enough for the DIY homeowner/shade tree mechanic types like me. I'm happy. They are similar to the Black and Decker, but don't feel like junk in my hand junk. Batteries are ALMOST interchangeable with B&D. I liked them well enough that I bought the 1/2" impact driver for $150 (came with another big battery and another charger, so that makes me happy too).
I got the set of B&D tools, recip saw, circ saw, a drill and light, with 2 1500mAh batteries for a hundred dollar bill, out the door. The recip saw and drill are the nicest things on the kit. Well, the light turns on so I guess it is, too. But for the cost of a DeWalt drill, I got the whole lot. It isn’t as good of course but for what I do around the house and occasional REAL work, it’s a fine compliment.
That front bushing is exactly where mine failed. It was cheap enough, and I put it through sooo much though. To get the good deals buy the big combos and sell off what you don't want.
Have to of these kits I bought before I decided that I liked the ridgid tool sets better. You can get generic batteries for pretty cheap that will work, supposed 4 amp ones at that. Now I have bough the porter cable floor drill press and I'm very impressed with it, as well the price it was. Would be interested in some tear downs of the ridgid stuff. Have been fairly impressed with them so far.
I have one of these saws. The blade packaged with it is pretty dull and wears out pretty fast. I have some demolition blades for mine and it does great with the aftermarket blades.
I bought a pc drill and driver set about 5 years ago bc they were on sale and I didn't think they would last very long but they have. 5 years of hard use and abuse and they are still kicking. They might not be what they once were but they also don't cost what they once costed. Nothing is what it used to be and PC is as good or better than a bunch of others for a great price. Hard to beat them value wise.
I'm a home gamer for the most part. I have a bunch of 20v Porter Cable tools and some corded ones too. I wouldn't want to build a house with them, but for home and auto repairs, and occasionally trying to build something, they're not tea bag.

This can be clearing seen with tools like the 1/2 impact Dewalt DW059HB vs PORTER-CABLE PCC740B. So the tools are pretty much 5-10year old Dewalts running on new lithium. Definitely not top by today's standards but not the bottom of the barrel.
Porter plug in belt Sanders, pneumatic nail guns, circular saw, router, and a host of bench tools.. circa late 90's early 2000's were AmAaazing! The places they put metal instead of plastic was similar to Milwaukee.
You're right about the 743 being one HELL of a circular saw! I've had mine for over 20 years, used it in a professional construction environment for at least 15 years of that, and I'd still put it up against anything out there. Arguably the single best circular saw ever made. I know alot of guys in the business that go on and on about worm drives, but I think they're too heavy and bulky. Broke my heart to find out they quit making it!
I still have my 1990's plugin TigerSaw. The only thing I replaced on it was the power cord strain relief which dry rotted. Other than that, it still works fine.

My Dad had a Porter Cable jig saw from the '60s that was an absolute work of art. The thing had like 3 different gear cases that all ran in different weights of oil. He ended up with it for free when one of the oil plugs rattled out and it stripped the teeth off a gear. He went down to the actual tool store (long since closed), ordered the actual gear that failed, repaired it, and used the piss out of it for the next 30 years until someone finally stole it. I just hope the dickhead that stole it actually knew what he was getting and didn't just take it in for scrap metal. That would be the worse crime.
PC has been just about total junk for about 20 years now. My 15 year old PC Sawsall is only a mere shadow of what that old jigsaw was (but still did come with an exploded diagram of EVERYTHING and the part numbers for the stuff) and the new stuff is just about not worth owning at all.
I had the portacable saw you speak of . Loved that saw when it fell off the scaffolding and plummeted to the ground blowin apart from the 40ish foot fall i buried it and said a few words. I too liked that blade on the good side. It now rests in pieces under a house in seaisle city south Jersey. Incase anyone needs parts
I bought a porter cable cordless drill in 1997. Still works perfectly although it's needed a couple of batteries over the years. Used to be good stuff

I have had Porter Cable drills and impacts for the past 15 years. I have had Zero issues except for the over moulding coming off. I only upgraded for more power and I figured it was time for a fresh drill. I donated the old ones to my apprentice. They still run strong after years of abuse.

I've had a Porter Cable 20V set for some years now. Got a great deal. Use them quite a bit, for a home user... Even ponied up and got the 1/2" impact wrench. I like them. Haven't let me down yet.
I got the 20V set at Costco. The dinky circular saw is crap. The Saw Zaw spits out blades. The impact is solid and so is the drill. Battery charger is 1 at a time.
@@FlipTheTables I've used the circular saw for long rip cuts of decking with no issues. The 4ah battery helps. The key with the blade lock on the recip is to make sure the quick lock is fully engaged into the blade.
I have this tool. It's been working great for me for a few years. I've worked it pretty hard on many occasions.
Maybe just me but AvE reminds me a bit of the mysterious cowboy tester in the old Live it Up TV series. Carrying the torch of consumer protection for the next generations. And doing so while placing various unmentionable parts in available vices.

Most porter cable tools have that style that reminds me of a starship. Like one of that "rough" spaceship aesthetic star wars spaceships had.

I got it free with a drill, impact driver combo from Stanley Fat Max.
It’s been given hell by myself and the builders I employ. mainly used on demolition/remodelling of older houses.
The builders love it as it’s much lighter and more compact than the Makita cordless sawzall the usually use.
I’ll send pics to you when it wears out or breaks - so you can compare your comments about weak points or poor design/materials.

I've got a bunch of these Porter Cable 20v tools. I just use them for home and auto repair so they don't get used much. But when I need them, they work pretty good.
I recently had the pleasure of replacing the missing drive belt for a Delta miter saw. My dad gave me the saw because it doesn't work without the belt and he got it for free from a cabinet-maker friend because it doesn't work without the belt. My dad assured me that I could just "go online and get the replacement part from Delta." Yeah... As far as I can tell Delta hasn't stocked or sold that part for well over a decade... Well before the brand was sold. I did find a third party replacement, so all is well. I guess.
For belt replacement, if it's a standard V belt, just use a link belt if a regular replacement is hard to find. You can make it whatever length it needs to be and they cause less vibration.
I've got link belts on everything I own. I'll never use those old rubber v-belts again. Harbor Freight sells a link belt made in the European Economic Community. It's good to go.
Cool. I've heard some good things about those link belts. The drive belt for this Delta saw is a toothed timing belt, so I couldn't have used a link belt.
Run a google image search for delta miter saw belt and you may be able to locate one like that.
sdp-si.com might have the timing belts, they are typically a standard pitch and sizes.

At my old job we had about 3 or 4 different brands of power tools. So someone modded all of the batteries to fit every model of their tools. The Porter cable ones fit the dewalt tools and were cheeper.

as a commercial electrician i used porter cable tools everyday for a year and a half before i switched to Milwaukee. all the credit to them, they kicked ass
I heard you say “real cheapskates” and that immediately brought me out of my slumber. I pulled apart an 18v Rockwell recipro saw yesterday and found good and bad as well. The case was well made with lots of bracing and the whole internal assembly was all metal, probably pot metal, but I was surprised that there was no plastic. The weak link looked to be a very flimsy “scotch linkage” drive mechanism which also creates quite a bit of vibration. Maybe that’s why my Makita uses a bearing as a swash plate. More expensive to manufacture but way more durable and a lot less vibration. Anyway I’m so cheap that I pulled mine out of a bin to use the internals for a rattle can shaker and thankfully everything seems to work properly. The idea is that the whole unit will be mounted on a wall with 230v input and a timer so I can just load the can, set the timer for 3 minutes and come back when the bell goes off. So far everything has been free as the drive mechanism came from a bin, the timer from an old mechanical microwave and the power supply from a dead laptop. Everything else I can fabricate myself so the whole thing will be free.

Lenox, Proto, Facom, Stanley, MAC Tools, Vidmar, Bostitch and Black & Decker to name a few. I believe they also
used to own Delta but sold it to Chervon or something.
This reminds of what happened to Sidchrome, which was an Australian hand tool company. It was bought out by Stanley (as it was then) who immediately shut the whole thing down and turned it into a zombie brand selling rebadged foreign-made Proto and Facom etc. The whole deal was basically an asset-strip/elimination of a competitor.
I got all these battery powered porter cable tools. Home owner Shit for sure. I’d never use them for work but around the garage for half the money they get the job done.

Yeah, they are just fine... not going to build a house with them. Although I probably could until they died... but I'm under no delusion that's what they were purposely built for. But the batteries are a great deal cheaper than other brands.

I too own a PC circular saw. My dad bought back in 1960 at the Army & Navy in Victoria. Of course it was when 7" blades were the size. 2 years later the saws moved up to 7 1/4" and stayed that way for many years. Meaning, if I want a 7" saw blade...I would have to luck out at garage sales. Mine still has the steel blade that needs sharpening. Carbide tips were not a thing yet. I did luck out and did get 1 blade with carbide tip missing the odd tooth. Still have original carbon brushes in the 120 volt corded motor. (I have been meaning to take them out to see if there is any brush left. Some other day I guess. Built 3 houses with it so far.

I have a Milwaukee cordless sawzall ( the one that looks like a corded one) in 18 volt, that I have had for 10 years. I used it professionally for four years installing cabinets, and it is still better than the 6 amp range corded. The only ones that work as well are the 10+ amp ones. The original batteries toasted out long ago, but the AGGA replacements on eBay are far superior anyway.
I primarily bought one just for cutting out windows in OSB. It does alright on lumber, but yeah, it is not really tough enough for doing a lot of metal fabrication tasks.
For as much as you rip on the "Cryobis", I'd thought you'd have cracked one of their staple products like a drill or a saw open by now? The green ones seem to hold up just as good as the Milwaukees or Dewalts these days.
Pepsiaddicto Their new brushless hammer-drill (which if you bought the combo w/ batt and charger came with a free brushless tool of your choice) actually has a real rotary hammer action and not just a click ring. The whole chuck moves back and fourth like a rotary hamer.

I have the ryobi stuff for home use. It's ok for that. Nothing like the makita i used to have when i was renovating the old house. That thing lasted 15 or so years before one of the nimh batterias gave up. So i sold it on...

I've hammered on my ryobitch, spilled hydraulic fluid on it,it wallers in the dirt,diesel&asphalt working on asphalt paving equipment wasn't expecting it to last long boy was wrong owned it for 3 yrs now!
They aren't even mid range consumer grade. My dad got their costlier corded sawsall and got roughly an hour of non continued use until it started smelling nice and nastily hot then started smoking. I took a look at it by plugging it in and running it with no load and it smelled hot and started pouring smoke almost instantly.
He ended up going back to his 40-50 year old saw from the "same" brand despite the jammed on switch and missing parts and bare copper spotted cord.
At least fix the cord, that just needs some shrink tubing, something to cut the cord with, and a soldering iron. You probably don't want the old man to get shocked on accident.
@Sebastian Johansson I've not only tried, I've also made him a replacement cord and been hounding him to let me install it and weld the shoe back together so it's at least usable.
I purchased the impact and drill combo from Porter Cable about 4 years ago. The impact breaks loose my lug nuts on my race car very fast. Where my snap on 3/8 14v couldnt budge them. I still use the drill and impact combo everyday at my shop. Love them so much I ended up getting a second set. The only problem I ever had was the impact was too strong and broke any Chuck I could find. I finally found one from Snap-on which would hold the torque. I would be very interested and seeing you test the 20-volt lithium impact from Porter Cable!

They blow ryobi away..,,,,I bought a big set of this stuff five years ago and only had to replace the impact driver recently but it was used heavy everyday. Dont be afraid of them it is a great deal.....if they are as good as the ones I bought....they may have cheapened but I have a new impact driver and it seems as good as the original

No, it's actually a schmoo remover. You need enough friction to release the schmoo, that's the key. Many guys give up after a few thrusts. Hence why this tool is the better choice for finacky customers.

At the Aldi's near me (inner inner city ones) they go very quickly. The brand I got is Workzone and I just got the box out ...it is a 3 yr warranty. There is no real tool selection, it's just first come first serve. The stores are almost always fairly packed. I'm in the midwest USA.

All my Greenworks 40v tools have spring eject battery. It's really handy on the chainsaw and helps on the others. The battery is huge (10s2p 18650 2100mah), and would be hard to pick out of the machine without it. It keeps the battery from rattling and makes the spade connections to the devixe.last longer
The Canadian Tire Maximum Lithium drills seem pretty decent. Name brand parts, individual cell balanced battery charging. 5 year in-store warranty (no questions asked).
The problem for porter cable is that everybody who bought one 20 years ago is still using them.

I picked up the 4-tool combo kit when they went on sale for $150 a couple years ago. I've had good luck with the tools and the batteries. Good enough for the DIY homeowner/shade tree mechanic types like me. I'm happy. They are similar to the Black and Decker, but don't feel like junk in my hand junk. Batteries are ALMOST interchangeable with B&D. I liked them well enough that I bought the 1/2" impact driver for $150 (came with another big battery and another charger, so that makes me happy too).
I almost bought these Cordless Porta cable as I have a Sabre saw from 30 yrs ago that's been very good, so glad I passed on these

I like porter cable. ive had the sawzall and drill and impact for 5 years without any issues. they get used all summer long on projects.
I got the set of B&D tools, recip saw, circ saw, a drill and light, with 2 1500mAh batteries for a hundred dollar bill, out the door. The recip saw and drill are the nicest things on the kit. Well, the light turns on so I guess it is, too. But for the cost of a DeWalt drill, I got the whole lot. It isn’t as good of course but for what I do around the house and occasional REAL work, it’s a fine compliment.

Have to of these kits I bought before I decided that I liked the ridgid tool sets better. You can get generic batteries for pretty cheap that will work, supposed 4 amp ones at that. Now I have bough the porter cable floor drill press and I'm very impressed with it, as well the price it was. Would be interested in some tear downs of the ridgid stuff. Have been fairly impressed with them so far.

I have one of these saws. The blade packaged with it is pretty dull and wears out pretty fast. I have some demolition blades for mine and it does great with the aftermarket blades.

I bought a pc drill and driver set about 5 years ago bc they were on sale and I didn't think they would last very long but they have. 5 years of hard use and abuse and they are still kicking. They might not be what they once were but they also don't cost what they once costed. Nothing is what it used to be and PC is as good or better than a bunch of others for a great price. Hard to beat them value wise.
I'm a home gamer for the most part. I have a bunch of 20v Porter Cable tools and some corded ones too. I wouldn't want to build a house with them, but for home and auto repairs, and occasionally trying to build something, they're not tea bag.
