    Would love to see a version designed for full suspension mtb . Carbon gates does have a few systems that work on full suspension (with a active tensioner) but from what I have seen they are only avvalible on some bikes through the bike manufacturer , and not as a stand alone kit you can buy directly from Gates.

    what happens if after installing the belt drive to the non-belt-compatible frame with VERTICAL DROPOUTS, I have to for some reason take off the wheel?
    how would tension / detension the belt?
    ( e.g. flat tire / replace disk brake rotor )

    • @anim8ted923

      Yeah, I notice the bike frame in the video had horizontal dropouts and a convenient jacking screw to tension the belt. Most frames don't have this. Belt tension is very important for timing belt drives. I hope they address this issue in future videos.

      you would use a belt tensioner with vertical dropouts I assume

      @@GlenGlenervo i also think thats the logical way to go... but...
      as we speak....
      there's no relative product for this specific purpose in their line up
      despite seeing one in an early review from a couple of years back while researching about it..
      it's a bummer because I was seriously thinking about making the change to belt later on while saving a ton of money this way
      also reading on their blog about a retrofit build, they actually built their own tensioner but their characterized it as a very tough thing to do for some reason

    Why is the alignment 2.5mm from the rear cog instead of inline? Frame flex?

    • @veer9772
      @veer9772  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The front beltring has guides and the rear cog for Alfine/Nexus doesn't have guides. The guides are 2.5mm wide so that's why there is the the gap when checking alignment.

    Guys you're trying to promote your product, and you have it all washed away by a black background. I think your system is awesome and I came here to see it installed, but you block and rush through how it splices together. Pretty disappointed.
    I do hope you'll have a sprocket for a freewheel hub soon.

    Would this product work on rear hub driven ebike?

    • @veer9772
      @veer9772  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Most hub motors have a 9-spline or thread-on mounting pattern for the cog to be installed. We have mulitple sizes for a 9-splie mounting but we don't have a thread-on cog at the moment.

  • @SeventhTenant

    Can I use your belt drive on a frame with vertical dropouts with no means to change belt tension? Eccentric bottom bracket is out of the question because I have electric middrive motor installed. Since you don't have any belt tensioner mounting to a derailleur hanger in your product line, I suppose it's a valid option, right? To rivet a belt that's installed on cogs and has just the right length to maintain propper tension. A golden ratio but with belt. Right?

    • @Trixtah
      @Trixtah ปีที่แล้ว +2

      According to their website, not yet: "At the moment, horizontal dropouts, eccentric bottom bracket, or another form of tensioning is needed. We plan on releasing a Tensioner Pro for vertical dropouts around summer."

    They should have the split rivets in black or same colour as the belt. Them silver rivets makes it look naf. Ruins the whole look of the belt.

    From what I read, a carbon belt drive should outlast a metal chain 3 times. This version of the belt has a weak link which is the metal pin closing the belt loop. If something breaks, its always the weakest spot, so doesnt that kinda negate the advantage? Also quite expensive for a belt and two metal pieces...

    • @veryboringname.
      @veryboringname. 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Looking at the design, the shear load is spread over a large number of rivets. If 1 rivet fails, the load will be spread over the other 19 or however many there left - so there's plenty of redundancy. It's probably very unlikely too, since the load is distributed over so many rivets so each rivet doesn't see as much stress.
      In a metal chain, each single link has to handle the entire load - a single point of failure. If one link breaks, the entire chain falls apart.

    guys, seriously, you are selling a common product that is a common industrial resource, but GOLD PRICED to ignorant consumers . What you pay this guys for a belt, you have enough money to buy couple douzens of belt in a roll that you, yourself can pin and/weld together with all the guarrantees of a safe riding. Is not super high tech design, this has been in the market, pretty simmilar products, for decades. Its not complex, not new, but hey, always you can catch consumers that have no idea about industry or maintenance and sell your pretty expensive stuff.

    • @veer9772
      @veer9772  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your feedback! You are correct, belt drives have been in the market for motorcycles, industrial uses, and even bikes for some time. However, to use a belt drive on your bike you need to buy a frame that was designed to accommodate a circular belt, which usually means having a "split" or frame break. Not a lot of people want to go out and buy a whole new bike just to try out a belt drive. Our belt drive is "split" for you (not a circular belt) so it can be accommodated on standard bikes, not just ones designed for belt drives so more people can adopt this technology. Also, no one has designed a "split" belt for aftermarket use before, which takes a lot of engineering and a pretty advanced belt to make it safe for ebike riders even.
