Catch Fish from Holderness: MAPPLETON

  • The first in a series on fishing the Holderness coastline. This video covers a daytime session in February (recorded on 08.02.22) fishing for dabs at Mappleton, East Riding (Yorkshire, UK). Despite a long quite spell at the start, numerous dabs were caught during the ebbing tide. I deal with my basic approach to catching dabs here and the tide state might be of interest to those planning dab sessions at this location. The beginning of the video references the 2020 EOBC flattie bash, with footage of the event (recorded on 06.03.20) from Zone C at Mappleton.

    Great to see you fishing the Holderness coast Mick, its my local venue and it was nice to see how you changed your usual set up to combat the different conditions that you’re more accustomed to, it’s a shame that you never had a codling or two as there are a few coming out at the moment, but as you found out there’s no shortage of Dabs to be had, looking forward to you making a few more vlogs up here maybe try a little further down the coast for a better chance of cod/codling 👍🏻

      Many thanks for that Steven. Next video homes in on Aldbrough - hopefully out next Thursday, assuming I have one lined up for the following week; which is touch and go, since I'm still recovering from a damaged hand. I had planned to fish Holderness last week, but I've been unable to grip anything, let alone cast!

    Hi Mick. Never fished that far north and it looks like I've missed out. A good venue and a good session...and only one whiting! Bit crowded the day before though! I assume that you went up for a couple of days / holiday and not just a day trip. Be good and stay safe. Cheers. Ken

    Great video. Well worth the long drive. Your rods were set higher than usual. Any reason, as there didn't appear to be much of a swell.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! The wash runs up the beach quite a bit, so you set up further back from the water's edge than a lot of venues I fish and you get a series of large waves coming in - I think they call them sets up here. Yes, I prefer to keep my rods low down when fishing for flat fish, but here your lines would be moved about too much and rod tips would keep bouncing, making it difficult to spot bites.

    • @rodsangleuk6283

      Thanks Stephen - you're right, I think the last time I caught dabs from the Thames, was when you could still get on and fish from the black jetty on Canvey.

      The cliffs around Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay, much further north have those fossils - cliffs here are of boulder clay from the last ice age; but that's not to say you wouldn't find any, it just unlikely. Thanks for watching Stuart - I think I'm the only fossil in the video!
