In fairness, there's a huge chunk of us in the player side who don't really collect and will just sell on most of what we get because it's just not competitively viable product. If I open something that's valuable to collectors but has zero value from a player perspective I get excited because I know that I can recoup some of my investment in product or I can get more funding to buy specific playable things I need. Collecting is what got me into selling cards since it's easier for sellers and cheaper for buyers to move inventory as lots, but when you buy enough lots you get duplicates or cards you don't need, so you repackage those into lots to sell, and such is the circle of life of collectible cardboard haha.

I used to collect Pokémon cards, until they got prohibitively expensive, and extremely difficult to get. I moved onto Yu-Gi-Oh! a bit later after watching the anime, and got a starter deck from a mom and pop shop near my house, and collected them up until a few years ago, and it's crazy to see how much the values have escalated. I feel like a lot of people seem to forget that collecting cards is a hobby, and not everyone wants to profit from it, some people collect them because they like the cards, not to make money.
Yeah, its everywhere. With MTG also - if you buy a box of boosters and if value of cards inside wont be more than price of the box then you lost money and you should be disappointed (this is the mentality i saw many times in recent years)
Great ranty video that I can relate to. Being a collector is fun man. I think what separates the true collectors from just speculators and investors is we display our shit we worked really hard to get. We sell off things we don’t really want as much as something else we’ve been looking at. We drill holes into our walls for shelves to display our plushies, slabs, video games, whatever we love. I think the people who are still around at this point continuously adding to their collections are the ones in this for the long haul. We love Pokémon.
I feel like resellers are a plague on the hobby, like I can't even buy cards that I'm nostalgic about from my childhood without being price gouged. Oh yeah, and if I want an affordable copy of the card I had when I was a kid, it'll be some beat-up crumpled piece of damaged garbage. I see these bums selling their "I had my card go through the washer, scraped on the floor, and crumpled into a paper ball" on eBay, asking for absurd (yet affordable) prices because the premium for a decent condition copy is too high. People are milking the cash cow a little too much and I hope all the money-grubbing parasites get stuck with a ton of immovable inventory because they got too greedy.
I just got back into playing the TCG and somewhat collecting again thanks to S&V 151! I think I made one video on my collection but yeah it's great to see the hype disappear a bit BUT I think (thanks to S&V 151) that hype train is brewing again... Great vid! Refreshing to watch stuff that isn't crypto related for a change lol
A lot of my friends got back in the Hobby in 2021 and most of them got hooked into opening packs to try to make money. I stopped opening packs when I saw how deep they had gotten into it but I spent that year researching and finding out about so many cards I had never gotten to see. It was a cool year seeing everyone getting back into it and it didn't cost me anything since I wasn't buying. I know you said you enjoy the calmness going on currently but I do hope we get another surge at some point.
YOU GOT BANGS!! lol, looks good dude. 🤙🏽 I feel like not a lot of people are talking about the topics you brought up in this video. I feel like the content that TH-cam gives me nowadays is just gamer drama with the completionist's donation money that didn't go anywhere and other people getting ripped off with resealed boxes /packs or other scams on tik tok. You spitting out facts!! We missed your content, glad to see you back!! 🙌🏽
Love this video format! I think in the long run it is a good thing for the collectors. People who are essentially only bothered about value will start to sell their holdings once prices start to trend downwards. This should flood the market and allow the collectors to start to buy things at a more realistic price to what they would have to pay now. Its pure speculation, but some of the movements recently in the Japanese side of things suggests that this may happen. Prices are starting to drop a little overall and more and the population of certain cards for sale seems to be trending upwards on mercari and other japanese sites. Its likely a sign that people who have been holding on to certain cards with the hope of selling them later at an astronomical price when the value peaks are seeing a downward trend in comps and panic selling to still make a profit before the average sale price drops lower. There are multiple specific cards i'v seen this with in the last few months. Hopefully within good time we might be able to fill those expensive binder gaps at a more sensible price
I collect for the nostalgia and art. I’ll admit there was a moment where I wanted to sell during Covid the prices were insane but it didn’t feel right. I fell in love with the hobby, this brand, before the big bucks came in. The little extra money it would have brought in wouldn’t have made me as happy as having this amazing collection. I too like this time of peace and quiet. Where getting new products or even older single cards isn’t impossible. Happy collecting!
the whole debate of what is a “true collector” i think in the heart of it is just people trying to see whether there is actual love behind the person or just someone who views the cards as money bills. I honestly think there are more true collectors than people may think but some people in this hobby they care too much about value and selling that they create this bubble around them with mostly people who focus on those things and end up having a wrapped view on the hobby. You can’t be like “is there true collectors out there?” But then be around mostly sellers/investors and expecting to find them. Nice to see you back Eva
I have some expensive cards but my favorite that I own is my Tyranitar Prime from Unleashed that I pulled myself in college. I graded it last year and it's my first slab ever! It's a 8 because my binder was bad quality and at that time keeping them in perfect shape was not really my top priority. I personnally opened my instagram page only to share my pokémon cards, plushies, goodies and to meet likeminded people that just collect for the fun of it because we like it.
good to see a new vid. Would be super excited for more white board, cost benefit analysis heavy vids. Show me the discount rate. (on topic. I hoard sealed product for the long term and have never sold a pokemon card)
Hey, I've been watching your channel for a few weeks now, this video needed to be made by someone, you've done an awesome job, i hope every collector in general see's this. I have collected and taken care of my childhood collection since 1990's. I've added things over the 30+ years, I lost a lot to a natural disaster and I've been on the bench with it all since 2020 because of that. 2023 marked the start of me collecting again, i still had a lot of stuff from when i was younger but i wanted to get things that i lost and were destroyed. It took a while to get back to that point because simply, it's not mine, i'm re buying it. It doesn't feel like yours anymore if that makes sense..? I have spent a tonne of dollar dollar bills ya'll, and before re buying i told myself to just enjoy what i get, buy the things i like. I had sealed tins, vintage packs, vintage toys, really expensive stuff that before 2020 didn't cost all that much and as soon as i lost it BAM, things went through the roof, insurance wasn't even close to the value, i lost out big time. But with what i did get from the insurance i purchased my favourite things. Following TH-cam content throughout the year i learnt a lot about "investing", which is funny because as a kid i collected to sell everything in the future but i grew so attached to it i don't see it as an investment now, it's very much a part of me and holds a lot of memories and the stuff i re bought are MY favourite things. PokeVault8 said something in 2023 that really hit me, "If everything goes to ZERO, i'll have a hell of a time opening it all up" I don't think i could bring myself to open my sealed product, i enjoy knowing i have it so much because i've lost it all before and don't wish that upon anyone but if everything becomes worthless to everyone else it will never be worthless to me.. I've constantly asked myself, "what happened to people just enjoying what they have?", "why do people care about a PSA10 so much?", and i think that's really dangerous. Let them care, let them buy and sell, that may be part of THEIR hobby, where enjoying what i have is part of mine they like to spend and make money. I get that and i accept that now. I'm scared that grading will devalue my collection a lot, i'm not into grading, i think it's a scam. (It can say 10 and clearly be lower with visible edge wear inside the slab, i have raw cards that are clearly a 10 but will only be bought at raw value) It's quite a shit show at the moment but i really hope more people just enjoy having things in general rather than the value, that's how this hobby started. Like, if you had a base set Charizard as a kid, you were a king, because it was the best card, not the most valuable. Value shouldn't be the front man of a collectible hobby, enjoyment should. I really enjoyed this video and the topic has been on my mind for a while now, i do think there are a bigger percentage of investors > collectors, and i hope it does change but it isn't the be all and end all. Just enjoy what you have. Collect what you love.
Lets go!! Glad to see ya putting out another Vid Eva! Had to click on this when I saw it on my recommended! Im gonna flex someday when youre a household name that we got to do a trade for that Delta Species Mew @ Card Party! 😝😝 Great Vid & keep crushing it Fam! I opened my first pack in 20 years when I found out about the 151 release. I’m just here because the pretty pictures look great on my wall. And I’m having a lot of fun doing it for the art. I totally fell in love with that grumpy charmander trying to fight a pidgey through a window, that’s my favorite card… then I found out about the 151 set and that was it for me, I got sucked in. I’m starting a collection of sleeping Pokemon cards and those figurines on the bean bags are precious and would look great on my display. Where did you get them?
this is a great video i just started going to shows recently and hsd no idea NJ had any shows besides collect a con haha my sister lives in woodbridge ill have to check that out love the 3 dogs collection!
A good point to focus on the positives no matter what state your hobby is in. After all, if it doesn’t bring joy why do it? Keep opening up Eva, Eva’s Binder/Bangers/Bangs is back!
I generally just buy penny or nickel cards just to fill in album space for a given series or expansion. If I happen to buy a sealed pack or booster box and get a good pull or two, that’s just a bonus
I think a big part of being a true collector, is just having a pure passion for what you collect, irrespective of the monetary value or the opinions of others. The hobby brought in people through nostalgia the last years and then some stayed for the perceived stonks that further attracted other stonk seekers. Many of them are now gone. Yes, these things come in waves and there will be nostalgia waves for pokemon cards for years to come...However, people should know that many collectables throughout history have gone through these waves and now some of the markets for other collectables are mostly or completely dead because people lost interest or just that those folks have passed on. Pokemon cardboard will go through the same fate eventually as we sail through the digital age, so people shouldnt get into it for the perceived long term stonks and rather enjoy the hobby for what it is, a hobby. Investing in collectables is probably the last thing a person should invest money into if they want the best opportunity to grow their wealth (not including business owners that make a living out of selling card games, but people thinking cards are stocks). Just enjoy the hobby and happy hunting 🙂
I’m so jealous of your collection! I wish I got into liking Pokémon sooner, I only started liking it in 2021 :( I play stuff like Pokémon Rumble, Detective Pikachu, Pokémon Shuffle on the 3DS but still didn’t understand Pokémon >_>
nice collection. i have almost all the boxes you have back there but... mine are opened several years ago. all i got sealed now are the newer sets like unified minds. i wich i had older sealed boxes. great collection girl !
I'm planning on getting in on the 151 release but I'm waiting to see what I'm gifted this year. The only cards I have are from my starter set from 1998-99ish? I think other than that I'm interested in collecting Evolving Skies and the 25th anniversary. I've been playing Pokemon Go on and off since 2016 so my digital collection there is decent. My daughter recently started collecting cards because she got them in a happy meal so I'm working on building her a deck so I can break out my OG cards and play.
I like that you touched on the relationship between money and collectibles a bit. Like yea I love my cards outside of the monetary value, but I can't act like I wouldn't be upset if I spent $20, 000 on something and it went to 0 the next day
Nice video! I love collecting so much. Loved pokemon since base set and am a big collector. i'd master every set if i had the money, haha. i also get so attached to my collection. My daughter loves yuka morii cards and this totally threw me off a few years ago, they arnt rare or expensive 😅 once i came round to it i loved her passion and even graded a non holo yuka morii for her, just because i knew it would bring her joy. made me look at my own collecting and personal value i place on cards. i definitely feel the worry/anxiety that i will miss out if i dont follow the popular items...thnx 😄
My favorite card in my collection is 25th Anniversary ______’s Pikachu or Happy Birthday Pikachu card. It’s the reprint so it’s not worth much. But I love it. It was a gift. My 2nd favorite card is XY Evolutions Charizard holographic. I was excited about pulling it because I didn’t pull the original card as a kid (even though I had two of them from Base and Base 2 back then). And it was pulled from a pack that came from the Kangaskan EX box a close friend got me for Christmas 2016. That close friend is dead now and the Charizard is very very special to me as a result. It’s the same level importance as the Pikachu card.
OMG... I am not even reaching 7 minutes of your video and I am so fucking agree with you... I know that there is nothing wrong about resellers, scalpers, only investors looking for profit, the thing is that they are now more than 75% of the people buying pokemon... I am from Argentina and we are a small comunitty on whatsapp groups, I got involved in some claims or auctions, people only buy things to re-sell them later on ( Note that with more than 10 points of inflation, TCG is an escape from the local currency, but still ) there are no people looking for mastering sets, to complete collections, to share pics of cool binders... no more, only re-sell and temporal hype for the set that is the latest being sold at the moment. Your video is light for the hobby ! Thanks a lot :)
My problem is I have way too much to display. It’s frustrating. Binders and binders full of cards. Love collecting ETBs. And the occasional slab. I should probably sell a bunch of stuff, but don’t have the motivation yet.
Hi I now came across your channel. I am an actual person who is a collector along with my grandson who collects too. I only have loads of uncompleted sets which I'm trying to slowly fill. Anyway point I was going to make is I'm not against people selling say single cards to make a little but its the people who do go in it for money only rip people off & charge silly over the market prices. Do love your collection you have though very nice.
I feel like I'm hybrid in this topic. I absolutely love collecting cool things, whether that be lighters, knives, pens, etc. I grew up playing, and watching Pokémon and miss it. Just got back into collecting and I love getting the high value cards, and keep track of their prices, even though I cant see myself selling it. I'm not chasing any cards in specific, just going after all the rare stuff bc I like to collect random rare stuff lol. I did however get a holo Gengar in the sv151 set and even though its not worth anything really, I will treat that card as it is worth more. There is definitely that factor of having specific cards I like I suppose. Also got lucky with that super rare Iono in my first Paldea pack, and also got a plane jane non holo. I will be keeping both together lol.
I started to focus my collection towards XY, sun+moon singles off pure nostalgia, and putting together a master set of one of my favorite artist Komiya. Took a few years to actual become a "collector" and not a "hit chaser". My wallet thanks me!
My favourite cards are actually 2 that are not that expensive. One of them is Surfing Pikachu Dark Star Promo and the other one is Vaporeon V from "Evolving Skies". The story they have behind it and how they look makes me enjoy them more some some of my expensive cards
When someone asks me about my favorite things in my collection, I cannot do it. Hundreds of cards are my favorite. I’ve never been able to pick just a few to claim as favorites.
Eva, I think there are 10’s of thousands if not millions of collectors that just collect, small and large. I think being at shows or events, you are going to see a lot of what you are seeing because that’s is what happens a in ecosystems like that. A lot of sellers, equals a lot of selling. There are definitely collectors. A lot of them. P.S. I love the content. More videos.

Yeah, its everywhere. With MTG also - if you buy a box of boosters and if value of cards inside wont be more than price of the box then you lost money and you should be disappointed (this is the mentality i saw many times in recent years)
Glad you’re back!! Looking forward to your videos!
We need more philosophy in the world, especially in Pokemon. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Time=money is the worst mindset you can have.
My favorite thing that I own is probably the variety of Charizards I have in the first page of my collection binder.
What an awesome, wholesome video! I agree that having time is SO so nice right now.
Yeah….. 151 was the best example of this. Dam scalpers took all the fun out of a set that we were all eagerly waiting a year for.
Welcome back to TH-cam Eva! We missed you here!
Glad to see you back!
Awesome to see you posting again missed the videos keep it up love your approach to them
I just got back into playing the TCG and somewhat collecting again thanks to S&V 151! I think I made one video on my collection but yeah it's great to see the hype disappear a bit BUT I think (thanks to S&V 151) that hype train is brewing again...
Great vid! Refreshing to watch stuff that isn't crypto related for a change lol
so much wisdom in your sharing! good sharing
This is cool. I totally feel what you were excited to voice!
I feel like not a lot of people are talking about the topics you brought up in this video. I feel like the content that TH-cam gives me nowadays is just gamer drama with the completionist's donation money that didn't go anywhere and other people getting ripped off with resealed boxes /packs or other scams on tik tok. You spitting out facts!!
We missed your content, glad to see you back!! 🙌🏽
Noticed you’re almost at 10k so I dropped a sub. Great vid!
Great to see you back. Your videos are fantastic...thank you.
Happy collecting!
got this recommended, great video! following on whatnot
the whole debate of what is a “true collector” i think in the heart of it is just people trying to see whether there is actual love behind the person or just someone who views the cards as money bills.
Great video! Also, nice getting to meet you in Charlotte. 🙌🏽
Thanks for making a video! You’ve been missed.
good to see a new vid.
PokeVault8 said something in 2023 that really hit me, "If everything goes to ZERO, i'll have a hell of a time opening it all up"
I don't think i could bring myself to open my sealed product, i enjoy knowing i have it so much because i've lost it all before and don't wish that upon anyone but if everything becomes worthless to everyone else it will never be worthless to me..
(It can say 10 and clearly be lower with visible edge wear inside the slab, i have raw cards that are clearly a 10 but will only be bought at raw value)
It's quite a shit show at the moment but i really hope more people just enjoy having things in general rather than the value, that's how this hobby started.
How do i get information on when these conventions will take place. I also live in jeresey and would love to attend.
I think about this too
Lets go!! Glad to see ya putting out another Vid Eva! Had to click on this when I saw it on my recommended! Im gonna flex someday when youre a household name that we got to do a trade for that Delta Species Mew @ Card Party! 😝😝 Great Vid & keep crushing it Fam! Much Love & hopefully I'll see ya again at CP2! ✌🔥
She truly did answer the age old question “do you even lift?” In Pokémon format.
What an enjoyable well articulated perspective you shared with us in this video. I am not in the Pokémon space but I am subscribing anyways!
I thought you left to never comeback - well nice to see you back even if you stop uploading again.
Nice to hear your views! Ty
this is a great video i just started going to shows recently and hsd no idea NJ had any shows besides collect a con haha my sister lives in woodbridge ill have to check that out love the 3 dogs collection!
If I happen to buy a sealed pack or booster box and get a good pull or two, that’s just a bonus
as someone who dident collect pokemon cards for 20 years and got back into it, I'm so so exited but wish I stayed in this hobby
Good to have you back!
I've never seen one of your videos before but I really liked this one
I’m so jealous of your collection! I wish I got into liking Pokémon sooner, I only started liking it in 2021 :( I play stuff like Pokémon Rumble, Detective Pikachu, Pokémon Shuffle on the 3DS but still didn’t understand Pokémon >_>
I NEED TO KNOW WHERE YOU GOT THOSE COLORED BORDER SLEEVES FOR YOUR PSA CARDS PLEASEE 😱😱❤❤
Glad to see you’re back. My fav piece in my collection is my PSA 10 1st edition Neo Genesis Sneasel!
Glad to see your video pop up
I really enjoyed the video and the points you made.
What is the microphone that you are using, it sounds wonderful
I barely got back into into it this year & I have a small collection.. I just got my 151 booster box & I pulled a gold mew ex which was pretty cool 👍
Ive been out here just collecting for the PC since 2011, and have to tell you its never steered me wrong. Wouldnt change it for anything :D
Glad your back, awsome collection 🎉
She's back!!!!!
Welcome back, can't believe its been almost a year!
Such a beautiful display! Definitely need to show off mine more like that
nice collection. i have almost all the boxes you have back there but... mine are opened several years ago. all i got sealed now are the newer sets like unified minds. i wich i had older sealed boxes. great collection girl !
True collector right now & never gone stop
I'm planning on getting in on the 151 release but I'm waiting to see what I'm gifted this year. The only cards I have are from my starter set from 1998-99ish? I think other than that I'm interested in collecting Evolving Skies and the 25th anniversary. I've been playing Pokemon Go on and off since 2016 so my digital collection there is decent. My daughter recently started collecting cards because she got them in a happy meal so I'm working on building her a deck so I can break out my OG cards and play.
Pokemon Classics sent me, great vid!
So glad you are back!!!
I should probably sell a bunch of stuff, but don’t have the motivation yet.
idk who you are or where your channel has been hiding. But keep up the content! Love the collection
My wallet thanks me!
you have style! love your collection
Great to see you again!
My favourite cards are actually 2 that are not that expensive. One of them is Surfing Pikachu Dark Star Promo and the other one is Vaporeon V from "Evolving Skies". The story they have behind it and how they look makes me enjoy them more some some of my expensive cards
Ok I don't care about the cards but I need those eeveelution plushies so much that I can't even describe it
When someone asks me about my favorite things in my collection, I cannot do it. Hundreds of cards are my favorite. I’ve never been able to pick just a few to claim as favorites.
I love this video! Wow it's amazing to see how far you've come! You really make such great content and it's 🤩🤩🤩
