  • here's a look at the installation of sound into the new Heljan class 73 electro-diesel locomotive
we go through the main functions, and mention the shortfall of not being able to have route indicator lights illuminated on the rear of the loco when light engine. I do believe this was meant to be a function when the loco project was launched. I did discuss my method fitted to my class 33 With Ben at the first MIOG exhibition
but it is still a cracking model and I give it 9.5/10....I must get round to fitting the arc shields, but I think that'll have to wait until I do the weathering

Thinking of the Headcode lighting, I think the decoder will be set up so that only the front box in direction of travel is lit, it should be a simple case of changing a couple of CV settings to give independent control of both sets of headlights on seperate function buttons.

Biffo says it can’t be done

Amazing loco, a bit too costly for my taste though😳🤔💜

Expensive, yes, but a lot of loco with a lot of detail

A real shame about the headcode box lighting issue. I believe the versions with high intensity headlights fitted also have the problem of them being on the same circuit as the headcode box lighting so if the headcode box is lit the headlight is too. Really wish Heljan would get on top of these issues. Spoils otherwise decent models for me.

I modified my 33 so I could have red or white blanks illuminated, so in the future I might look to see if I can repeat it, but I have 5 more 33’s to modify at some stage……

I really does bug me about having to snip off pins either esu have put redundant pins on for no reason or Heljan have dropped a clanger with way one of them needs to fix the issue you shouldn’t be having to modify a £200+ decoder which essential voids the warranty. Great video are you going to be doing a weathering video?

It doesn’t void the warranty, as it is designed with ESU input in the design. The instruction comes from ESU via Heljan to remove the pins
