  • Curve interviewed by Gary Crowley in their recording studio, June 19th 1993.
Recorded on Sony V E180 at SP, Nicam stereo sound. Tape archive 657, digital archive 4086
Curve were an English alternative rock and electronica duo from London, formed in 1990 and split in 2005. The band consisted of Toni Halliday (vocals, occasionally guitar) and Dean Garcia (bass, guitar, drums, programming). Halliday also wrote the lyrics of their songs and they both contributed to songwriting. An important collaborator was producer Alan Moulder, who helped them to shape their blend of heavy beats and densely layered guitar tracks set against Halliday's vocals.
Curve released five studio albums (Doppelgänger in 1992, Cuckoo in 1993, Come Clean in 1998, Gift in 2001, and The New Adventures of Curve in 2002), five compilation albums (Pubic Fruit in 1992, Radio Sessions in 1993, Open Day at the Hate Fest in 2001, The Way of Curve in 2004, and Rare and Unreleased in 2010), and a string of EPs and singles.

CUCKOO is an astonishing album. It’s so malleable and timeless-it doesn’t feel like it belongs to any era or genre. 🥚 I can listen to it now and not have any connection to the past. They were so ahead of their time.

This interview remains very telling…Curve thought they had created a masterpiece…and they had…they could have made another album full of riffs…a ‘Doppelgänger II’…if you will…they didn’t…it was their undoing…unfortunately…instead…we have ‘Cuckoo’…a brilliant album…not stuck in the 90’s…not living on nostalgia…mind-blowing to this day…utterly futuristic…utterly fantastic…more importantly…utterly unforgettable…

Well said, the only two albums that I would say are at the same level are MBV Loveless and the Pumpkins, Siamese Dream. Those three are all so heavy, so multi-layered that they're difficult to grasp, they seem impossibly deep and perfect, I never get tired of listening to them.

I was lucky to see them live the 3 records or 1,2 and 4 actually. I love that they have that photograph/poster of Ian Curtis above the mixing board, so good and sad though. I lived in Phoenix in 1980 and 16yrs old. My friend Bob S. And I went to a little import record store in Tempe and the guy said you guys need to chk out Joy Division😮 I bought Unknown Pleasures it turned out to be about 2 months after he commited suicide which later turned out was on my F'n Bday, May 18, 1980 sadly. Nobody hardly, new anything about JD till years later or just knew Love will tear us Apart. We liked everything they did and bought😊
