Hi Paul! From my understanding the situation shows not an audit of production scheduling, but the way how auditor should choose the machines. I was expecting something different than that. For example how to effectively verify that the organisation in production scheduling took into account such factors as, for example, calibration, planned and unplanned maintenance, etc. And how daily production plan is going to be changed due to those factors.

Every company will have a different approach to production planning, the key thing is is scheduled in order to meet customer orders/demands, with the effectiveness measurement through delivery schedule achievement. Again, what was shown in the video was only an extract from the audit, not the complete audit of the production planning process.

hmmm. We audit production scheduling based on customer order to job order then order give to lines- Ask how do you know when it is due, how do you know what machine it goes on, show me the procedure in the system, etc. The status of a machine isn't considered in our audit of production scheduling. I'm confused. If we walk around the floor we'll see machines that are running product, threading coils to run and banding coils complete and maybe blanking line stopped for some reason. But those we look at in our operations audits.

Hi Steve, good feedback. Every company will have a different approach to production planning, the key thing is is scheduled in order to meet customer orders/demands, with the effectiveness measurement through delivery schedule achievement. Some companies will prescribe in the planning the specific machine to use, others will leave this to the relevant shop floor supervision.
