The worst part of this movie is that it makes everyone literally insane. First is supposes that a significant portion of the population is just secretly wanting to go on a murder spree but the only thing stopping them is it being illegal. And secondly it presents a situation where everyone is just cool with their friends and loved one and neighbors just going on violent rampages once a year and pretending it's all okay
If I knew someone who participated in the Purge and was capable of going back and acting as if nothing happened as soon as it was over, I would run from that person because that is a fucking crazy ass person. No mentally healthy person could kill someone and then go into work the next day like its fine.
Exactly. Everyone in the movie is mentally insane, but they just don't know it. That's the norm. People who choose not to be part of the purge end up dying.

So the vast majority of soldiers in the history of earth have been mentally unstable. I'm glad someone established that.
fmlAllthetime A lot of soldiers are mentally unstable but no they're not like the people in this movie, because they presumably deal with the trauma of combat one way or another. The people in the Purge are sociopaths, capable of killing a homeless person with their friends one night and then going to Starbucks the next as if nothing ever happened.
Soldiers carry their actions with them. PTSD and shell shock before it are things for a reason.
You make some pretty grand assumptions to think that people who don't go hunting for the first time aren't later okay/have accepted what they did. No one says that the people in the movie don't have problems with that either. What this movie is saying is, what if you had a free crime card, and you could literally do whatever you wanted. I'm sure people would like to just shoot up traffic lights if they like shooting but the gun range got quite boring, so they would do that. I personally would enjoy doing donuts in the middle of an intersection holding up traffic in all directions. Have you ever played a shooter in a game and learned that people actually rage when they die instead of the person they are shooting at? Thats the villians of the movie. Sometimes you just want to wear a mask and see how being psychotic feels, cause nothing plagues humans like curiosity.
I don't think you understand what the movie was trying to claim. The movie however did fail as just being a home invasion movie. Lets be serious for a moment, Home Alone killed those burglars almost every time. Those guys are dead and yet lived to tell their tale in a prison somewhere. But the home invasion movie genre does suck.

That's the main problem with the film. It assumes everyone will just go straight to murder. There'd be no way business owners would support a "purge" because every year their businesses would get completely ransacked.
Well you see everyone's way too afraid of getting murdered so realistically most people wouldn't go out

Because, in the movie there are lockdown systems placed in buildings to make it difficult to get in, also if you were to go rob a store you'd probably still get shot by the owner

WTF, how convenient.. Just finished watching The Purge: Election Year and saw this. I didn't like the editing and cinematography. The Purge is a really good concept/plot, I wish it was made by a good director.

Not So Much the government instates a domestic terror wave by allowing the purge to happen it also takes place less than five years in the future the government would never allow wide spread domestic terrorism especially terrorism sanctioned by the government and if it did it would take years decades for it to happen this movie if you can even call it that is so far off of anything that is even remotely possible that it just becomes a complete piece of shit

Personally I like the idea of the purge. The conservative movement could topple the government. You could probably get half the miltary to join the cause. we'd start by capturing water treatment plants, power plants, sub stations etc... Then we'd begin forcefully taking miltary bases and armories. Using the vehicle and weapons from taking those installations we'd then bomb the crap out of Washington and wall street. Wed have mass killings of all the progressives to remove the blight from society. Then we'd establish a libertarian paradise. :)

This show is the best god damn thing in the universe. The setting is great, the main character is superbly executed - you might just be the best actor. Period -, and the jokes, may they come from the setting, the movie or just plain humourous observation are hilarious, while still giving an in depth analysis of the film. I love you Grayx.
