On my 400 I had both pipes the up pipe had a curved tube of the cylinder and it was a torque pipe and the down pipe had a straight pipe out of cylinder for HP

Is that a Wheelsmith pipe? I had that on my 1976 AW400. What happened to the fork boots?
Old school Maico ran a down pipe? The old mags not listed up pipe. Wild maicoman, nice 250 with after market head>)
Uh, check for air leaks. It sounds lean.
Is a bit lean. As long as the main jet isn't lean it's ok. Put a silencer on the pipe then check it. Could be running out of fuel.
