I use the camdiox/roxon speed booster/ focal reducer which after rotating the optical element to adjust infinity focus optically it has been just fantastic for me... although I did have to open up the springs on the mount slightly to tighten its grip on some Nikon f to canon eos adapters. The eos version allows you to use Nikon, m42, Olympus, Pentax and even eos glass wide open glass with the use of a m42, nikon etc. to eos adaptor...... Although it does seem to accentuate vignetting with certain lenses mainly zooms as most primes have worked like a dream...... This means that although focal length can be a little tighter and not an exact replication of ff although the speed booster does help in this department you can basically achieve any look you want for very little outlay especially if you know what you're looking for Re: past experience or internet 'love letters' to vintage lenses and other reviews...... Whilst I have got af lenses for my Nikon I have always used mf glass for all of my Fujis and my 85mm 1.4 pretty much brings me into the 20th century if I need too as well and lives on my xt1 with the speed booster most of the time unless I need something a little smaller and then its over to the Nikon 50mm 1.4 or Pentax smc-m 50mm1.7 which is stunningly sharp poss event 133mm prime or a 28mm something for a great and super sharp 35-40mm-ish focal range all in a super small and compact package.........I have also used my fuji mf setup alongside my Nikon AF setup 24-70 2.8 ed and sigma 50mm 1.4 with out even thinking about it and with the focus peaking found it super manageable in event/ wedding/ prom situations etc especially for more composed shots and anticipated moments and it also free's you up from being limited to the sometimes a bit more sterile look of more modern lenses although I do have to say that for colour and people my Nikon 24-70 2.8 ed and Sigma 50mm1.4 do suddenly make a lot more sense aesthetically in a more contemporary way than they do in my personal work when I often use mf lenses with my Nikon setup as well and it allows for a creamier more saturated look with beautifully soft fall off to of areas & with the right mf lens with little to no loss of sharpness as well...... My friend also uses her Leica m lenses that she used to use professionally almost full time on her xt too and loves it; and so Leica m for those with deeper pockets or an older Leica m and m39 lenses are also easily possible which can also reduce the size of the adaptor and lens combo a little further (prob 10-15mm ish) and with beautiful results too :)

Neither Fujifilm or Nikon Z system are limited to their mirrorless series of lenses. You can use adapters to adapt almost any sort of lens to a mirrorless system. If the Nikon Z series is an option for your professional camera upgrade, it also has an adapter to use all your current Nikon lenses you use.
Great video, most of the videos I have seen on TH-cam is using fuji either for personal stuff or as an Secondary camera but not as a Primary workhorse any specific reason, is it image sharpness or what ?
I feel like you should go to the medium format camera route because they're getting lighter and smaller every time a new generation comes out and Fuji have a great medium format cameras
I'm torn between getting an xt3 or an xh1. The xt3 sounds overall more appealing to me, but i really do like the grip of the xh1 better. I'd use it for both photography and video, but more for photography. Which one should i go for?
If you need mac battery life, go XT3, if you prefer the grip and IBIS, go XH1. The sensors, colors, and megapixels are effectively the same in practice.
Regarding preserving the beautiful Fujifilm colours in your images, how do you process your images? Do you shoot raw, and if so what editing software do you use, camera profiles, etc?
I’ve been shooting weddings part time for over 8 years now I have a 5Dmkiii as my only main camera I sold my 1Dmk3 years ago Due to back focusing issues So now I’ve been really needing a backup. Do you recommend I get a cheaper x-t1 or x-t2 and spend money on a lens or go for a x-t3 or x-h1 and use an adapter along with 5 vintage nikkor lenses that I have.?
Depends on how fast the focus needs to be I think. The x-t3 has gotten a major upgrade in focus speed but then again so did the x-t2 with an upgrade couple of months ago. I personally own the xt20 and would love a faster af. I do own the 56mm f/1.2 which is wonderful! Got it used for around 790€. Paid of the very next gig :D. To sum it up, rent the Fuji X-T2 and see if the AF is fast enough for weddings and if not get the X-T3. Fuji lenses are always a good investment no matter what body you choose. I do use a Nikon 100mm f/2.8 from the 70s myself and I do not know if manual focus is fast enough for weddings. Maybe for some details or establishing kind of shots...
Which one do you prefer for street photography stills? Is the colour science the same quality in older models of Fuji like the the x100 (if you happen to know)?
Great review! I have Nikons D810, D500 and a Fuji X-T2. The images coming from the Nikon D810 are definitely stunning, I can say really better than from the other two "crop" cameras. The Nikon full-frame 36MP sensor delivers absolutely fantastic images. Its raw files are fantastic to work with. You can tweak the files and they never brake! The D500 and the X-T2 do not deliver the same image quality. But I've been using my D500 a lot for wildlife photography, especially birds. It delivers great, maybe the very best autofocus in the market right now, It also gives me more reach out of my lenses to take that picture of a tiny bird far, far away. I use the X-T2 for the everyday snapshots. Don't get me wrong, the D500 and the X-T2 deliver very good image quality, but the D810 is the tool to have when the job is really serious and the image quality must be the very best possible.
May I ask you what settings are you using for video with Nikon D810? like whitch type of focusing and other things (auto-ISO) I know it is hard to say. So let's say that exposition is cloudy sunny day with decent shadows etc. :) thx

I’m very curious about what the so called full frame look is. You mentioned “a punchy look”. But what is that? Can eg. a pixel with a little bit more dynamic range and light performance, that are hardly visible in a lot of photos, make that distinctive look. I don’t say that you are doing it, but I think a lot of people are making the difference between aps-c sensors are full frame bigger than it really is. Great video by the way 👍 NB. I think 95% of all cameras can take 95% of all good pictures if the photographer knows what he is doing. ;-)
It's similar in principle to the medium format look vs. 35 mm or the large format look. The distance between lens and film plane.. If you consider the camera being a light tight box and the lens the light source. Moving the sensor further away will reduce the light.. If you then apply the inverse square law you can see that the light reduction via distance has different effects on the different light levels. Therefore a larger format with a corresponding greater distance from lens to sensor can better differentiate between subtle light incremental values. In the analog world this is often referred to as tonality. It has nothing to do with sensor or lens resolution or sharpness.
Jon Janson The distance between lens and sensor isn’t always bigger with a bigger sensor. According to Wikipedia The Flange focal distance on a Micro Four Third is 19.25 mm, on the Fuji-x APS-C system 17.7 mm and only 16 mm on the Nikon Z full frame.
@@othomsen1 The flange to sensor distance isn't the lens node (convergence point) to sensor distance. An extreme example would be a comparison between 35mm format and 10 x 8 large format. The large format being able to discriminate between smaller variations in light levels than the 35mm even with identical film emulsions/sensors due to the increased distance and the effect of the inverse square law on those variations. Hence the increased tonality (tonal discrimination) obtainable with larger formats. Which is the primary reason why discerning pros use the largest format possible. It's all about optical physics and nothing whatsoever to do with sensor resolution, pixel size or pitch, dynamic range or in camera processing. All things being equal, bigger equals better. Also in terms of a clean image a larger format with an equal number of 'pixels' results in a greater 'pixel' pitch, (distance between pixels) which substantially reduces mutual interference between adjacent sensor 'pixels' thus reducing noise at source, thus requiring less negative feedback noise reduction after the sensor. The best way to reduce noise is to not have noise in the first place. All things being equal, bigger equals better.
Jon Janson I know there’s a lot of factors that determines the quality of the photo. I’m just questioning if a bigger sensor size alone can give you a more punchy look. Yes, there are often bigger pixels and greater distance between theme on bigger sensors. But that’s not always the case. Your example with light fall of as a result of bigger distance between lens and sensor sounded interesting. I was just curious how big a difference that alone could do. And if it really made a visible difference it could be a good reason for me to use my old Nikkor lenses with an adapter (bigger distance), on my Fuji x system, more often.
@@othomsen1 Possibly ,you'll have to try it. To see an appreciable difference it may need a substantial distance increase. something like the distance increase between a 35mm film camera and a medium format film camera. Which is about two to three times the distance. If you double the distance the light falls off by a factor of four. Which has a more profound effect on the lower light levels (darker tones) than the higher light levels (lighter tones), thus an increase in tonal discrimination. It's one of the reasons why medium format digital can look way better than 35mm digital even with the same pixel count. The simple answer is use the right tool for the job and the aesthetic effect you require. Bigger is always better until you have to lug it around!... :)
Love this video, Evan! I'd love to see how you color your video work. I know you've gone over your photo workflow countless times, but something you do makes your videos look so amazing. Also, your opening sequence makes me want to get a zhiyun so bad, haha! Looks dope!

I'd like to see you run the Nikon Z6 Filmmakers pack, against the Fuji XT4.. I did also, see a nice review of Sony all-in-one RX100 VA vs RX100 Vii, so I would imagine someone like you would appreciate adding something like that to your travel kit. I'm personally, trying to buy a used Pentax rn, for stills, and I'm really thinking about buying the XT4. if the XT-4 had an infrared video and still mode, it would be a no brainer.. that would be my choice. give me everything in a camera and add that.
Man I would love a Fuji XT-3 in a D850 body. I'm a Nikon shooter with one of the most beautiful things one could ever hold ( apart from your own kids, wife and beer and stuff) and that's the Fuji GW690II 6"X9" film camera.
Yo Evan. So I’m thinking about careers jobs and all that stuff. How much do you make as a professional photographer if you don’t mind me asking and is it a good wage to live comfortably on? I don’t think the answer google tells me is very accurate so I would like to know from you, which I consider a good source.
I actually use Minolta MD Rokkor lenses with my Fuji X-T2. The focus peaking tool makes these vintage lenses very usable. I went from Canon to Sony to Fujifilm. Pretty stoked on Fuji, but I still miss full frame in lowlight settings.
Evan, visually beautiful video, but in all honesty, 10 minutes to basically say that Fuji color science is amazing and the D810 is a professional workhorse. Am I missing something?
Why can't another fuji be considered your "professional" camera of choice? Like you, I still use my nikon D750 for paid gigs but seriously considering going all in with the Fuji X line. I'm using my X-T2 waaaay more lately. But at the same time I still can't get rid of the Nikon for whatever reason :/
I'm ditching Canon FF in favour of Fujifilm, which I also use partly for last five years, and I don't care for Canon's mirrorless offerings, course over the span of a last decade Canon kept disappointing me over an over agin. And for those rare moments I still do need larger sensor I'll rather buy GFx R. And if I don't have money for it, I'll rather use medium format film camera ;-)
I can name 6 manufacturers that make lenses for Fujifilm OTHER THAN Fujifilm: Kamlan, Samyang, 7Artisans, Mitakon, Meike, Viltrox To be fair, most of those make “cheap Chinese lenses”, but they are not useless lenses. Especially not for video, since video is a little less demanding when it comes to sharpness.
Good video, I use the Nikon D-810 and I also use the Fuji XT-3. Each for a different application and portability, and I am pleased with both manufacturers. Cheers.
Yeah, I have the xt1 and there is definitely something special about the sensor. I was a little disappointed with the xt2 and 3 as I feel they weren't quite as good.
D850 would have been a no brainer for me if... the continuous video autofocus was more on point, i do need a robust workhorse and i'm just not sure mirrorless is such a thing just yet.
I would love to get into the FUJIFILM ecosystem but the bodies are just too small and their ergonomics doesn’t work well with my paws! My D4S is perfect...and if I ever go back to shooting an APSC body, I will snatch up another D500 (with a battery grip) which I was using before the D4S.
George Delgado put a grip on it and it’s the same as a d4 pretty much. Dunno why people complain about them being small if there’s an option for a big grip

I've owned Nikon D810, Fuji X-T20, X-T2 and X-T3. I prefer X-T3 over all of them by a long shot.
Get a K&F adapter and use your Nikon lenses on the Fuji. Works perfectly.
Chris Brown I have a few good nikkor lenses
24mm 50mm 1.4
55 macro and 105mm 2.5
And I’m getting Fuji x camera this Friday
Still not sure what to get tho but I’m probably not
Gonna get a Fuji lens just yet so you really think using my old Nikon lenses would be good for be meantime?
@@Nightshade1881 I would advise you to get at least 1 native lens. Otherwise if adapted lens will not function to your liking you might blame it on the camera. Personally I recommend the the X-T3 with the 35 mm F2. Cheap and small and good lens.
I owned a nikon d810 before i switched to the fuji xt3, havent looked back
I want both...hoo hoo hoo. I have an X-T2 and would love to add a used D810. If I find a used one at a decent price I will probably get one.
Amazing video as always man. Keep it up!
thank you!
My dream setup for 2020 second hand: Speed machine Nikon D4s with 70-200E and 200-500, all in one landscape D850 with 20f1.8G, 50f1.4G, afp70-300E FX; video Z6 Ninja V with 50S and 24-70S. Can't think of anything else out there so indestructible trustworthy and reliable.
I really couldn’t figure out what the difference between the 2 cameras was from this video
Fujigang fujigang fujigang 💯😁🤷🏼♂️
I like the fact that I can use all my old vintage lenses using adapters on the Fujifilm-X2 and that my vintage telephotos are 50% longer in use with the APS-C sensor.
Evan you are the GOAT, seriously. I can’t watch a video without being inspired to make something.
On the one hand, its still just a box whatever name is on the front. For me, I changed recently because I couldn't be arsed pulling my Nikon DSLR (+ kit) around with me on family walks. That was the day I realised that mirrorless was actually right (for me). Forget the work because that is one thing, but if you don't want to take pictures for fun, then something is wrong
Great vid. I’d be very interested in a vid on your thought process in looking for an upgrade to the D810.
possibly!
I love the content. It's crazy I got my bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and my master's in entertainment business. Now, I'm just getting into photography and creating content on social media. Love the vids keep up the great work.
Another super valuable video- keep em coming Evan
the Nikon z6 is dope i think you would like it. or the z7 for pro work
Neither Fujifilm or Nikon Z system are limited to their mirrorless series of lenses. You can use adapters to adapt almost any sort of lens to a mirrorless system. If the Nikon Z series is an option for your professional camera upgrade, it also has an adapter to use all your current Nikon lenses you use.
I'm a Canon shooter. But I don't give a crap because your videos rock. 🤘 And I love watching them!
Ayee thank you! And yeah I was worried some subscribers wouldn’t care as much about this one but I wanted to go ahead and get the answer out there!
@@RanftEvan it's all good. I feel just use what you love to use! The goal as photographers is to take amazing photos! Regardless the brand. 👍👍
Great video, most of the videos I have seen on TH-cam is using fuji either for personal stuff or as an Secondary camera but not as a Primary workhorse any specific reason, is it image sharpness or what ?
Who said???? 🙄
I have the same 2 systems and I’m adding the xt30. Subbed, I enjoy your take on things.
First! Evan, You’ve inspired me to pursue sneaker photography
Ayeee happy to hear it!
With a powerbank there is no juicelimit to the xh1. Noone mentions this.
So true I have been using Nikon D750 & Fujifilm xt3 is really hard to choose one among two 😢
Man you NEED to get a Z7. I'm rocking the Z6 right now and I can only imagine how ridiculous the Z7 is.
Agreed
@@ByFrosty unless you use flashes. then it sucks. z7 and z6 went back. ill stick to my d850 and xt3
I shoot with a Nikon D750 and the Fuji XH1...love them both. As a note, I had the Fuji X100F. Sold it in short time. Hated the ergonomics.
I could see that, my hands are big and it becomes a challenge at time for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Which film simulation do you use on the fuji?
Regarding preserving the beautiful Fujifilm colours in your images, how do you process your images? Do you shoot raw, and if so what editing software do you use, camera profiles, etc?
He shoots raw and uses Lightroom. I know from multiple other videos of his.
I’ve been shooting weddings part time for over 8 years now
I have a 5Dmkiii as my only main camera
I sold my 1Dmk3 years ago
Due to back focusing issues
So now I’ve been really needing a backup.
X-h1 has super autofocus with new firmware
Would you recommend Fuji XT2 as main photography camera? Or I should go for a full frame?
I think you should definitely go for fuji xt 2
hey even i have the money to get a fuji x-t2, but would you say an x-t1 is good for the price? i'm a canon user.
:) thx
Hey guys, I need help... I want to add borders into my photos like Evan, I tried following his tutorial and when i got instagram it still doesnt fit properly.... I shoot with a Sony A7iii at RAW. The dimensions of photos vertically are 4000 x 6016 and 6016 x 4000 for horizontal. What should i export them at or how should I adjust my canvas size? PLEASE HELLPPPP :)
For photography, fuji xt30 or nikon d7500?
For casual Photography or personal use both are fine...I can still recommend xt30 for little prolevel.... 👍
thanks man! do you still use the xh1? im trying to pick between a used xh1 and a new xs10... what would you pick?
That is why i choose xt30 over the a6400 even though they are almost the same price range. But i have to admit that the a6400 is much faster and has accurate AF than the xt30 but for me it is not a dealbreaker because I will only shoot stills and street photography so it suit my needs perfectly and i will not even use the xt30 it for vlogging or videos xt30 is a monster compared to the sony a6400 when it comes to still photograpghy, for me a6400 is best if you shoot a lot of videos (so if you are into image quality go fuji but if you are more into vlogging/video shoots sony is for you). Yet you are right that people should not be dictated by all the reviews on which camera you should get because at the end of the days it is just a shopping guide and it all comes down to what do you really need and must test it for yourself first before making a decision. Not every camera is for you remember, different strokes for different folks. 💯
I’ve been struggling choosing between nikon d750 and fujifilm xpro3
It's xpro3 obviously....I was a d750 shooter for almost 3yrs.... 🙄😉
What is the lens model you use for Fuji?
I’m very curious about what the so called full frame look is. You mentioned “a punchy look”. But what is that?
Can eg. a pixel with a little bit more dynamic range and light performance, that are hardly visible in a lot of photos, make that distinctive look.
I don’t say that you are doing it, but I think a lot of people are making the difference between aps-c sensors are full frame bigger than it really is.
Great video by the way 👍
NB.
Great video thanks for the info
Enjoyed your review - these are two cameras, along with the Z50, that intrigue me.
FujiFilm for the win
Currently torn between getting the X100V or grabbing a Nikon D750 cos I’ve always wanted a full frame. Lol
XT-3 for your next pro camera! :)
Go Fuji Medium Format for your pro photography!!
Got to be the new Nikon Z7 for your update. I've just changed to one after the Nikon D500 and it's incredible
Love this video, Evan! I'd love to see how you color your video work. I know you've gone over your photo workflow countless times, but something you do makes your videos look so amazing. Also, your opening sequence makes me want to get a zhiyun so bad, haha! Looks dope!
For a serious amateur, doing primarily photography, would you recommend the xt3 or the nikon z6?
Xt3
Z6. full frame, ibis, great colors
What do you think of micro four thirds? Have you checked out Lumix g9?
Fuji all the way!!!! Great content btw
Oh your not right, you can use all canon L lenses and some 3rd party with the fringer adapter on fuji... all functions work very well... and with a speedbooster even on the same focal length...
hey Evan what profile are you using with your Nikon?
I'd like to see you run the Nikon Z6 Filmmakers pack, against the Fuji XT4.. I did also, see a nice review of Sony all-in-one RX100 VA vs RX100 Vii, so I would imagine someone like you would appreciate adding something like that to your travel kit. I'm personally, trying to buy a used Pentax rn, for stills, and I'm really thinking about buying the XT4. if the XT-4 had an infrared video and still mode, it would be a no brainer.. that would be my choice. give me everything in a camera and add that.
Love my Fuji all the way
Excellent video! I love your style and content. Don't stop creating !!
Is the video around 4:00 from another TH-cam video of yours? Would love to see the full version! 😍
yeah! look up the video titles "18 hour photo search" Appreciate you watching!
Nikon and Fuji are the best. Been thinking about making a switch to Fuji for all my videos though... It's TOUGH
fujifilm x100f for all around camera? travel/portraits?
I’m not sure it’s all about what you like, but what I can say is Iv never used a 100f on a paid shoot!
What happened to your background lights?!
what music do you listen to?
Man I would love a Fuji XT-3 in a D850 body. I'm a Nikon shooter with one of the most beautiful things one could ever hold ( apart from your own kids, wife and beer and stuff) and that's the Fuji GW690II 6"X9" film camera.
Do you feel the image quality of the Fuji is good enough for your pro work?
Pro photogs use Fuji for pro work all the time
Yo Evan. So I’m thinking about careers jobs and all that stuff. How much do you make as a professional photographer if you don’t mind me asking and is it a good wage to live comfortably on? I don’t think the answer google tells me is very accurate so I would like to know from you, which I consider a good source.
You just nailed it Evan! Great video! Question .. what do you think of MFT cameras? Thanks.
If anyone's looking for that track at the beginning, it's "Car Talks" by DJ Denz The Rooster.
Happy *Orange and Teal Day* everyone! ;-)
I struggle with making youtube videos period, but I DEFINITELY struggle with taking my gear out in the "wild" to INCLUDE my X-H1!
I can name 6 manufacturers that make lenses for Fujifilm OTHER THAN Fujifilm: Kamlan, Samyang, 7Artisans, Mitakon, Meike, Viltrox
To be fair, most of those make “cheap Chinese lenses”, but they are not useless lenses. Especially not for video, since video is a little less demanding when it comes to sharpness.
Good video, I use the Nikon D-810 and I also use the Fuji XT-3. Each for a different application and portability, and I am pleased with both manufacturers. Cheers.
There are two cameras I’ve owned that I feel have utterly superb colors: Nikon D700 and Fuji X-T1.
Yeah, I have the xt1 and there is definitely something special about the sensor. I was a little disappointed with the xt2 and 3 as I feel they weren't quite as good.
keep it up, it's awesome!
The D850 is the next logical step.
D850 would have been a no brainer for me if... the continuous video autofocus was more on point, i do need a robust workhorse and i'm just not sure mirrorless is such a thing just yet.
I don't know about better or worse, I do know it would be cheaper to be able to buy one set of lenses.
Xh1? Possibly when the xh2 releases
George Delgado put a grip on it and it’s the same as a d4 pretty much. Dunno why people complain about them being small if there’s an option for a big grip
Aaron O'Brien I don’t think you understand how big my hands are...
@@obsidian00 just go to your nearest camera sure and test the xh1 without the battery grip and then test it with a battery grip
George Delgado I did...I have...just not a good fit for a guy standing 6’5” 300lbs :-(
