    I truly enjoy watching Canadian car reviews. Not only are they particularly aimed at the Canadian car buyers and enthusiasts but also fun to watch because the presentations are articulate, educational and polished.

    Enjoyed your review as always. I’m envious for I was born in Germany (1955) and I’ve always wanted to see what its like... I was too young to remember. My 1st car was a 56 VW Beetle convertible, also born in Wolfsburg... I’ve always had a fondness for VWs and I appreciate what you both do, with a touch of class and humor.

    • @panzer_TZ
      @panzer_TZ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Manufacturers need to start coming up with more practical interior colors other than Black, white, and grey. White is care intensive and looks horrible after a week. Grey makes the interior look like a rental car. Black becomes the best seller by default for dealerships. There needs to be colors like Saddle brown, camel, or burgundy. Something other than black, but still practical.

    • @emsss78

      Black in such countries like where I live where it gets over 40C in summer isn't practical at all.

      So he skated pretty well about the "studies have shown" (feel/felt/found) technique on why US buyers are not afforded an opportunity for this car in DSG, but instead a conventional torque-converter (lossy slushy) conventional auto transmission.. Saying you'd be "hard-pressed to find a smoother transmission". A junky Buick that won't get out of it's own way is also very smooth. Sorry.. I'm bitter now. :)

    • @EverydayReviews2022
      @EverydayReviews2022  6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Bigger than A4 and pretty well loaded for 50k. You’d have to spend more on the A5 for a well equipped one. 50k not too far of a stretch considering people spend 45k on Golf Rs all day long. This isn’t much more and you get more utility and room. Will be interesting though to see how many they’ll sell. At least it’s not like the VW Phaeton, that was like 100k!

    I have a Golf. VW volume buttons have a rotating power indicator, that I find extremely annoying when turned any direction except straight-up. I'm greatly looking forward to a volume button-less infotainment system. In the mean time, I exclusively use the volume buttons on my steering wheel. Surely I'm not alone. I really don't get the obsession with volume knobs in the first place.

    I am definately glad I watched this video and got properly educated on the DSG transmission. I have a 2018 Passat GT, my first DSG, and I really thought there was a problem with the transmission. Sometimes in reverse it does not catch right away, or if im slowing down for a red lighg and the light turns green it will jerk and slam into gear when I touch the gas... guess this is normal. Glad I didn't take it to the dealer complaining about the transmission not working.

    • @sylent6
      @sylent6 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that is very normal I have a 2013 mL and the transmission does do that. Also to if you put it in drive or reverse without using the accelerator you’ll actually catch it and push it forward or push in reverse which I love

      They are justifying the Tiptronic cause the VW Rep is in the backseat. It's a garbage decision to not put the DSG to that motor, its the same TSI in the Golf R which has....a DSG.

    • @Horizon301.
      @Horizon301. 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yinan Mi nope it won’t be as the looks are unbeatable. We have the 7 series which in my opinion was the best looking car along with the A5 but now I think even the arteon is better. I would love to have one, limited by my parents of course as it’s a far larger car for a new driver from a golf but the looks make it better than the A4 and the A5 costs more but is portly equipped and furthermore it doesn’t look as good and they are mediocre now that you see 5 every few minutes due to how many they sell in the U.K. so the arteon is a very good option that many I believe will choose. We have had many Audi’s and even the Passat cc before after a 7 series so I do always say that VW group make some very good cars and the cheaper brands within the marque always haven better equipment than Audi. Real world experience if you look at what the A3 has as standard and the golf then the SEAT LEON. The seat then the golf and finally the Audi. That’s the order of best equipped with the Audi being last, that’s also the order of cost with the seat being the cheapest.

    The Stinger 4cyl turbo just came out in Canada as a 42k GT-Line (same sporty looks as VW's R-Line) but it misses out on some equipment such as vented nappa seats, bigger infotainment screen, premium sound system and sunroof (among others) which the Arteon has at 48k (w/o R-Line). At 50k however, the Stinger has all those goodies + a 3.3TT with close to 100 more hp and better driving dynamics with its RWD biased chassis, suspension tuning and Brembo brakes. It's a close call and only the lease rates will determine the Arteon's success. Granted, these rates aren't much better on the Stinger with an eye watering 730$/month for the base GT (46k CAD) while it is much less expensive south of the border for a 46k USD Stinger GT1 with AWD (540$/month).

    • @EverydayReviews2022
      @EverydayReviews2022  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You’re absolutely right when taking lease rates. I know someone that was looking at a Stinger but ended up getting a BMW 440 GC for almost the same lease payment. Personally I like the Stinger and how it drives but I think this Arteon has a much more mature and premium look. In person, it’s a really good looking car.

    • @vladsaghin7644
      @vladsaghin7644 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I looked it up on VW's website and you can already price the Arteon. It turns out it's exactly the same as the Stinger GT at 725$/month vs 730$ for the Kia. However, if history is to repeat itself, the Arteon will depreciate much faster (just like the CC did) because the Stinger has a ton of hype and a huge fan base around it while the Arteon will never get this sort of publicity and will go down unnoticed. It's a shame because my parents had a 2013 CC and I loved that car.

  • @blitzbbffl
    @blitzbbffl 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    They kept comparing it to the Stinger, Audi Q7, and BMW, but NEVER mentioned the key drivetrain difference: This VW has a Transversely mounted engine. It follows that this car simply cannot provide the RWD-biased driving dynamic that many drivers seek.

      Trend among the entire industry now.. Thanks EPA and govt-mandated MPG regulations. The market doesn't get to decide.. Penalties against auto makers are imposed based on their average MPG's among their entire line-ups. This is why sub 2-liter fours are showing up in sedans and small SUV's now with a turbo strapped to it.

      Everyday Reviews . Yes, but I exported the car to another country that had no VW dealership. All servicing and repairs was therefore out of pocket. My point, though, is that the 7 speed has issues that the 6 speed did not. I can tell you that I also had an Audi A4 with Tiptronic and that ran trouble free for 88,000km before I sold it. So it's no surprise that VW is offering the new cars with Tiptronic as an alternative to the DSG. The DSG is brilliant to drive but is too fragile.

    I'm a chauffeur, and I definitely prefer a standard transmission - unfortunately here in Australia, we get the stupid DSG. In any case, I feel that it has insufficient rear head room. I'm only 6', and if I attempt to rest my head back on the head rest, my head hits the roof, and that's sitting in an outer seat - not the centre.
    Why is this car being compared to the Phaeton? Completely different type of car!

    These black rims have to go the way of the Dodo Bird. In the 1980s, people put special brake dust covers on Benzes and BMWs to keep the brake dust from turning the silver painted alloy rims from turning black. Considering it's a VW, I wonder what the reliability will be like?

    Why would they compare this VW to the Kia Stinger? Build quality of the Kia is no where near any VW! The price of this VW is a bit over the top! I’m keeping 2008 Passat Komfort which has the 2.0 liter 4 cylinder turbo that puts out 200 horses.

  • @bsbabcock

    So the fact that DSG won't be available in the US Arteon rather sours me. Enough to turn me away from another model DSG VW such as GLI or GTI? Maybe.. That kinda upsets me that a more performance-oriented transmission, already engineered into the car, was omitted from the US market because of a marketing decision that American sedan purchasers are in a market among junky ford fusions and GM offerings with mediocre drivetrains. So because US competition is poor, the US consumer doesn't get the best performer in the same car. So now I'm reconsidering that Honda 6-speed manual out of spite and good past experience. Poor move VW.. Reconsider please.

      Rambler Andy That’s why you do it early. Down here in S. Florida, you can find 1/2/3 year old cars with 5-15k miles on them. Grab a 2year old car within the VW CPO program and you then have a quite depreciated vehicle with 3 years of warranty! That’s what is did with my CC. It was 25 months old, had 22k miles on it, and had the 24 month (60k mile!) CPO warranty kick in after the factory warranty stopped. I saved $17,000 off MSRP and got a 35 month VW warranty on a sleek, stylish car that had quality, comfort, and capability. If the introductory lease offers don’t suck me in, the residual off-lease prices in 2020 will.
