The Retro Bro ugh! The ROMS I downloaded didn’t work. Should I try to put them in a different folder or keep trying different ROMS?
pdeandajr try a different rom set also make sure they are zipped. They should work in fba of not try mame libretro

Thank you very much for that little detail about FBA being the one folder that my MAME roms need to be in, finally all of my games work (albeit not all of them work perfectly)
Of the 26 games I couldn't get to work in the other folders, using this method I got all but one to work, and 2 that the sound is a little glitchy. All in all I call it a win, I have plenty to keep me busy now.

Glad I found this as I've been trying to get Ninja super batman and DarkStalkers to work so bad for hours and coming up short no matter what emulator I try. In fact, every single emulator for Mame comes up short other The Simpsons.

i hear final burn alpha is a really good arcade emulator but i have not mess around with it much but i really should get to that but it seem very easy to set up on the Pi wish is great.
funny since simpsons arcade was also one of the first arcade games i played at a corner store along with bubble bobble

What about the other mame files like the taito ir CPS2 zip files where do those go. Typically on my pc on Mame I leave them in the roms folder is it the same with this? Because currently only the Mame NeoGeo roms and Capcom 2D fighting games are working for mine...
So do I need any of the CHD files? Cause I have my files in the advmame folder but it always kicks me out of the rom before it ever gets to launch
I've followed the steps but you mention briefly here that you've already scraped the games...I kind of a newbie but when I tried scraping the games in pie it says no games found even though there's tons of games on there. I added file unzipped to folder you suggested and games won't start. Any suggestions?
The XMEN 6 player cab by far was my favorite! Do you have yours in a cabinet? Looking at making a mame 4 player on a Pi 3b+, haven't seen to many.

What's the best way to turn off the Raspberry Pi 4 after you're done playing it? Should I shut it down through the emulator/RetroPie internally or just flip the power switch on the power cord adapter manually?
I tried playing some older game ROMs like Burgertime using the FBA folder and it didn't work. I can get all my MAME roms to work on Windows but the only ones I can get to work in retropie are Defender and Time Pilot.

great video...a few questions for a potential future owner of PI...i have been a MAME user since the early versions...i am considering using Raspberry PI to build a standalone cabinet...will I just be able to copy the current MAME ROMS in to PI without any real hassle or is there a conversion...also can I load multiple versions of games such as DK, DK2, DK Foundry or is it limited to one Donkey Kong
Hey jan. First thanks for checking out the video. Second. Depending on the rom set will depend on what folder youll need to drop them in. (Make sure the roms are.zipped) from my experience the majority of them will play in the fba folder or mame4all. Keep in mind arcade emulation is by no means perfect. As far as multiple versions it wont matter. Some of the roms I have are English translations Japanese etc.

Thanks. I was putting my roms in the Mame4all and having no success. The fba folder has fixed the issue. I can now play capcom vs snk. Works just fine on the old raspberry pi model too.
Hey none of the game worked for me when I downloaded from Emupardise. Do i need to download an entire Mame romset and put it into some folder? Any help is appreciated

All I wanted to do was to play Rastan Saga and I could never get it working. I never thought of putting it in the fba folder. I will have to give that a try.
ZN1 games like Street fighter EX2 are working well?
I got a couple games to work then added some and they didn't work. THEN I went back to the original games that worked and they no longer work as well. Any idea on what to do to fix this?
Edit: Figured it out I think but running into a different problem. Some files just don't work but the ones that do work stop working when I go to rename them. Any idea on how to fix that?

Surprised that you don't need to unzip the files. Does that go for other systems to like psx dreamcast etc no unzipping?

If anyone could help I'd greatly appreciate it. When my roms download to Winrar i cant get the folder zipped, it only makes more Winrar shortcuts. Is there a way to play MAME games without zip files? If not how can i zip my files without making more Winrar shortcuts? Ive watched tons of videos on how to convert it but nothing seems to work
Drop mame in mame folder or in the arcade folder if yku drop them in fba folder its the onky 2 emus you can pick from fbaalpha or fbaalpha2012

How many games can you store on the rasberry? Can you run an external storage on it like a thumb drive or external hard drive? I was gonna throw an old pc in a mame cabinet but considering a pi
it is depend what SD card you using, im using 32GB and have a huge library on it... but i have a problem with running mame emulator.
Depending on how old it is, your old pc might be more powerful

It's setup much like the arcade. So.if you're first player you're stuck with marge
I'm still figuring this stuff out, but I believe you can do it with a keyboard. You need to setup keyboard shortcuts for adding coins, and readying-up play 1, player 2, player 3, etc. That's how X- Men worked for me, at least. If you had a full arcade cabinet, you'd be programming buttons for those functions, so without that, you would use a keyboard.

I have a rom pack called MAME 0.151, there are more than 28000 files in it. I don't think they're all MAME... Is there a way to tell which ones are? I have no idea how to sort these... Anyone know?

not one rom worked in FBA...put them in the mame 4 all and some of them worked.
So, I'm very new to this whole Raspberry Pi & RetroPie thing. I am not very knowledgeable about it at all. Recently, I purchased the LABISTS Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Complete Starter PRO Kit with 32GB Micro SD Card (4GB RAM). I was finally able to get it set up and I was able to play a few games on it last night (5/26/21). The main reason why I decided to go with a Raspberry Pi was because I'm a child of the 80s and 90s. I wanted to have a system that let me play retro video games such as arcade games and console games (Genesis & SNES) from that time period. The problem I've run into now is that some of the roms work fine and others don't. I can't figure out why this is happening. I have heard that arcade roms use MAME, etc . . . Some of the arcade and 16-bit console roms are working, but other ones are not. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix this latest issue that I'm facing? Thanks.
Before the game loads hold a button down and go to "select emulator for this rom" then launch game. Sometimes you'll need to use a different emulator rather than what is defaulted to that specific file location. Hope this helps
@@theretrobro Hi. I tried that already. So, I downloaded a bunch of roms from the internet (like everybody else). Some seem to work and others don't. For example: arcade roms for WWF Superstars, Rolling Thunder, and NARC aren't working. Some Genesis roms aren't working either.

My problem is when I'm playing for a couple of minutes a message pops up saying "Reset" and game restarts. Can you help me please?
Sounds like you have may have binded a hot key to go to menu

Try to Use Motion Blue base pack to ran Mame games. You are losing time trying to installs/configures.

hi I got your tutorial but there were loads of noms that aren't in the .zip format and some said set 1 or set 2 it really confused media really want to play a game called shao lins road/kicker but I'm so confused please can someone help me
Try putting them in the mame libretro folder. If that doesn't work try using the arcade folder. There are four different emulator options for the arcade folder. When you go to boot tr game press a and select "select emulator for rom" even then it may not work. Arcade games are very different as you need to match the rom set to proper emulators. Someone above had linked the retropie site that lists the rom sets. Check it out. Hope this helps

How do you select a different character? In TMNT and Simpsons I can only pick Leo and Marge respectively.

Ok, so unfortunately he missed some very important information. FBA and MAME on retropie are only compatible with very specific ROMs, when he was downloading his ROM you should take note that it was listed as game title then 0.184 MAME. You should review the retropie MAME wikipage for a list of what type of MAME roms are compatable to run on retropie. Also in your rom searches, search for complete rom sets. It should still be 1 single ZIP folder for a "rom set" of whatever game you want. 1 example of a search would be Simpsoms 0.184 MAME complete rom set.
i recommend reading their wikipage for better instructions/details than what i've given.

You need bios for neo geo and PlayStation. It could be the game rom itself dont work. Those the only 2 i know that need bios

Only game I got to work on my out of mame or arcade classics is TMNT 4 player. Really wish I could get ocean hunter to work! Or x men 4 player darn it.
