I'll like it if they repaint all the passenger coaches to match it, cause a bunch of boring silver coaches behind this won't look great in my opinion. If they don't repaint the old and new passenger coaches in blue and red and instead they keep the grey ad silver, than I think Amtrak should have kept using the phase 6 livery because it has grey on the back end. Will you review the new Acela's when they stop delaying them in 100 years? (I hate that they keep getting delayed since I live on the Northeast corridor and will ride them when they come into actual service!)
@@lightningbot85 I completely agree, thinking about an Alc with the normal silver superliners ( not saying they were bad or anything ) just feels a little bit weird.
Really liking Phase 7! I’m really looking forward to the railcar designs, assuming the Superliners and other cars are getting repaints as well, this’ll be the first time Amtrak railcars got new paint in over 20 years
Nice to see some more exclusive footage at this great plant! Also, nice to see some of the Via or Brightline chargers under construction towards the end in the background.
Pretty cool video of Amtrak’s new paint scheme. I had went to the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad in Fish Camp, California on April 13th 2022, two days ago and the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad in Los Gatos, California on “Palm Sunday” April 10 2022. And YMSPRR train ride was pulled by Shay #15 backwards. It’s another beautiful locomotive. And the BJWRR ride was pulled by diesel locomotive 2502.
@@CoasterFan2105 I saw the delivery of 308 and 309 a couple days ago when they were brought down to Oakland for next day shipment to Delaware via the Zephyr. Seeing phase 5, 6, and 7 engines was very cool. Great video by the way
nice vid - thank you sir. Great shots of the new paint. The scheme they chose does a very good job of taking what is a bit of a quirky looking engine and making it beautiful. Looking forward to seeing some in person!
I love it! I do think that it would look better if the logo and numbers on the side were swapped, so the logo was in the lighter blue area and the number was in the darker blue
Wow.. I usually am either ambivalent about new paint schemes, or downright disdainful of them, but this Phase VII Amtrak scheme is a great one! Well done, Matt & Team!
I absolutely love the Phase VII livery! I hope to see this livery applied to the ACS-64s along with the new ALC-42Es and Siemens Ventures in the upcoming years. I also do hope the ALC-42 Chargers end up on TS 2022!
Things are definitely looking up for this new era of railroading! While it is exciting to see these new locos, we will never ever ever ever let the P42s spirit and legacy die! Who’s with me?
I have a few videos of the new ALC-42 on the Empire Builder going through the beautiful Wisconsin/Minnesota area. Gorgeous looking engines, they came through again last night actually!!
I like how ingenious it is by adding more visibility and making it less ugly than phase 3 and the paint scheme really reminds me of the Via rail SC-42 paint. this makes phase 7 is one of my favorite paint schemes on a Charger and 2nd favorite Amtrak Paint scheme.
Looks good! "What color should we paint the top of the locomotives?" "How about red?" "Okay, what shade of red?" "Hmmm ... how about ... Amtrak red..."
This is a great paint scheme! When I look at it, it almost looks as if a set of rails or path that flows through the front with the red being a light or sunset, the dark being the roadbed, and the medium blue being the foreground. That’s just my observation. As a modeler, I am looking foreword to seeing these represented in scale.
Thank you for the great report right from the source. It's what makes your channel one of the most interesting about contemporary US railroads, you're not just guessing, you're going right to the source. This certainly looks great, snazzy, striking on the Charger, and Amtrak also got it a beautiful frontal shape that's certainly looking better than the Midwest engines. I just have difficulties seeing this applied to other rolling stock. Especially symmetric locomotives such as the ALC 64; putting an asymmetric livery on them would mean they look "wrong" half of the time (just see the railjet locomotives of ÖBB for an example). Perhaps they could have the brighter blue in the middle but then the stripes would need to be at a steeper angle and wouldn't look as dynamic. I also wonder whether the Avelia Liberty will get this new livery. The current livery has a lot of grey and absolutely no red on the front end, which makes it less appealing to my taste (there's only a red bottom stripe). Also the livery of the coaches reminds me most of 1960s/70s British Rail, not really something expected for the 21st century.
Good to know they'll be repainting the passenger cars to match, I've been thinking the new locomotives not matching the passenger cars on Amtrak California has looked really weird, I hope they make them match!
Every time Amtrak has done something good for quite some time, they surprise me even more. Amazing video, Mike! I have another question: I got a new camcorder for my birthday, hoping to step up my TH-cam channel, eventually following in your footsteps. Do you have any tips that could be helpful in recording, transferring videos to my phone/PC for editing, and good places in Southern California to record?
A big problem with Amtrak is how the paint scheme on the loco never matched the phase 3, 4 or 6 of the cars. I am just really hoping they get the paint matched eventually, as Matt Donnelly mentioned that they would do railcar designs later on.
I have conflicting feelings on this. It's not that I don't like it. I do like it. But I think I kinda prefer the Phase VI with the forward facing V at the rear, it's kind of like a nod to the Phase I. IDK, they both look cool. Guess we'll start seeing these in regular service before too long. Thanks for the video!
Ok I like Phase VI, and I am not really a fan of VII. I think Amtrak should stick with one paint scheme instead of jumping to another one like they did with phase IV. When they repainted 108 into Phase VI, I thought the new paint was awesome and I liked how they were passing it down to the ALC-42’s. I think if they’re making a new one they should ethier keep all the ALC-42s in Phase VI or VII even though they already started to make them different. Thoughts?
This is by far the most beautiful livery on a Amtrak engine.
What, you don't like the beautiful GREY with GREY BLUE? It was so amazing and GREY!
I'll like it if they repaint all the passenger coaches to match it, cause a bunch of boring silver coaches behind this won't look great in my opinion.
