Thanks. First oil change I did I was all setup to remove the wrong bolt. Figured after that I would hopefully save someone from doing what I almost did. Thanks for the view and the comment. Hope it helped. First oil change I was going to do on it I was all set to pull the bolt out of the side. Don’t know if it would have made a difference.
I’ve owned my generator for three years and only used it once (for one day) after a hurricane. I would then run it monthly for 30 minutes to keep it in good shape. Hurricane Milton is coming our way so I ran it again and noticed a constant power surge. The low oil light did not come on but I checked the dip stick and the oil was low. The oil change corrected the power surge and it runs fine. I won’t make that mistake again.
Hope you weathered through Milton ok and you and your community are safe. We’ve owned ours for over 2 years and haven’t had to use it until this year. We have gotten almost 100 hours just this year. I check the oil every time I start it. That includes when I’m swapping propane tanks while using it. The only problem we have had was the battery draining when it’s just sitting not being used. Recently I purchased a battery tender and now I leave it hooked up. If you don’t have one I recommend the Battery Tender (amzn.to/484PP4L). Interesting to hear low oil may cause surges. Thanks for that info.
Glad to hear it helps. If you want to see my actual hookup on the house check out this video: DuroMax Dual Fuel XP13000HX Review **1,200sqft Home th-cam.com/video/V1XOJopiBvU/w-d-xo.html
The dual fuel XP13000 doesn’t have an oil filter. 🤔 The small engine is similar to a push lawnmower. Has an air filter that just needs washing. If you run gas then there is a fuel filter cup that is also supposed to be cleaned.
Thanks. 😆 The drain plug has a washer and I did drop it in the video. The closed top oil pan prevents it from going any further than the top so it was an easy retrieval. Helps that the engine isn’t hot either.
Great video. Just did the first oil change on mine. I was at about 60 hours. Really black oil and looks like i was a little low. Perfect time for the oil change
@@thelakecommander7632 I did my first oil change at 22hours of use and then this was my second change. When I’m having to run it I check the oil at least every other tank swap.
When do you use idle control? I ran one tank of propane and noticed it back firing here and there. You have this issue at all? Finally, my choke vibrates and sometimes chokes itself out... I am learning all of this on the fly after Hurricane Milton😂
First off I hope y'all are ok and safe. We learned on the fly after a storm knocked out powerlines in the area. Before that I had ran my generator for maybe thirty minutes. 🤣 If you are running the Duromax generator on propane then the idle control is not used. According to the manual it is designed for gasoline only use. If you are do use gasoline instead the manual also says, "DO NOT use the idle control function when using the generator for backup house power." The only time I really have back firing is when the tank is getting low or the load is really high. What size propane tank are you using? I have had some comments on my other video (th-cam.com/video/V1XOJopiBvU/w-d-xo.html) saying they can't run their generators on 20# tanks like I have been doing. Duromax does suggest a 40# minimum propane tank size. I have been lucky running 20# tanks that are easier to handle especially for the wife and gives me other options for tank swaps if I can't get my 100# tank refilled. Maybe a bigger tank would help with the vibrations as well. If you continue to have issues I would recommend you reach out to Duromax support. I have heard they are pretty responsive. Stay safe. Good video. One question though, before you start the generator should the breaker be off, and then turned on once the generator is working, and then off again after the generator is turned off? Thanks.
Thanks for the comment. I always have the generator breaker off when I start the generator. Once the generator is started I turn the breaker on. The manual says turning the breaker on after starting is a setup step but I couldn't find anything that says it has to be off when starting. I also turn the breaker off before I shut off the generator and let it run for a few seconds with no load before shutting it off. I know the newer model in the Tri Fuel has a remote start so I could see the advantage of being able to have the breaker on when starting it, but I am not sure about that. Hope this helps. If you want to see more about my setup check out my other video: DuroMax Dual Fuel XP13000HX Review **1,200sqft Home th-cam.com/video/V1XOJopiBvU/w-d-xo.html
I have this generator and was curious if you hook up your stove to this. My furnace is electric and shows a draw of 14,000 watts so I assume you would not want to hook that up. I am a little hesitant hooking even the stove to this. I certainly would not want to exceed the running wattage of 9-10k watts because I am sure that could mess up the generator.
We have an electric stove and we are able to run at least two burners at the same time. I do make sure the A/C is off when cooking. We also don’t try running our electric water heater while on the generator. Any tips on doing this that are minus the carrying stand ? Mine is flat on a food trailer roll out tray. The drain plug is really close it’s gonna make a real mess
My only thoughts are a sacrificial cookie sheet that fits under the drain plug or something similar to this I found on Amazon amzn.to/40tywbN If it is that big of a hassle I would think about an oil drain hose. My BadBoy zero turn came with one. Something similar to this (double check the drain hole size to make sure whatever you buy works with the generator): amzn.to/4f527gn Good luck with it all and let me know how you end up doing it. Thanks for the view and the comment. Stay safe.
Do you find running it on propane lasting longer than gasoline? We just used our Duromax 1300EH for Milton to power the house. I was just curious for future use if it would be better to run on propane?
Hope y’all are doing ok and are safe. Run time and power output are lower when running it on propane compared to gasoline. If you have a trifuel then natural gas will be the lowest power output. I prefer running it on propane as long as I can to not have to worry about a gummed up carburetor. Have heard too many stories from family and friends of them needing their generator but it won’t start because the carburetor is gummed up. Even with the plan to run propane I still have at least 15 gallons of gasoline on hand when a storm is approaching. Thanks for the comment. Stay safe.
Nice job, thanks for the info. 😎😎🐦👍
