- I finally got my hands on one of the rooftop tents. This particular one is by Smittybilt, its not the most expensive one on the market, but I was definitely impressed with it. Can you close the tent completely with the rain fly ?
Great video bro! I happen to have this exact same tent and when the wife and I want to star gaze I can detach the stable side of the rain fly from inside the tent. It takes a little maneuvering and seeing with the hands but it takes about 1 minute once you figure it out. I simply open the top window/skylight and pull it halfway back. Reverse instructions when attaching and GAME ON!!

A little late here but, did you managed to get the led light working? If so, what did you use (im using a power bank and so far is just super dim almost as if it was turned off)
How much did this run you? I have a 98 jeep zj with a stock roof rack this looks perfect for me
where did you get the brackets that mount the tent to the bed?? so far the ones ive seen for mounting tents to trucks are around $700, almost as much as the tent!!
Putting the tent on to open off to the side makes your parking place needing to be wider . On a Jeep or Land Rover it is best to open off the back and the overhang is a great cover for the rear door.

I have the same truck as you do, also about to buy the same tent. my question is what bed bars that hold up the tent do you have? they seem to set low and just right on the tacoma... thanks was just wondering.

The inverter on the taco only works if truck is running
It works while running, and when the key in in the ignition in the on position. But not something you want to run all night obviously

Thanks man! The bed rack that the tent is mounted on is a mid height, so the tent barely goes above the cab. So I don’t notice much more drag or loss in fuel economy. I notice it mostly from the 35’s 😂

Great vid. What rack system did you use for your truck? Would a tracrac one like rack work?
Thanks man! I just use some bed bars that bolt into the bed rails, but it should work with a Tracrac too, the tent just bolts around the bars, so it’s pretty flexible from an install standpoint
I have a 2nd gen too and am looking at getting this tent--where would you recommend placing the bed rack so that all windows can open? Or more clearly, what's your measurement/layout for the rack in your bed?
I didn’t end up sliding the tent back before I pulled it off for the winter, but I’d imagine if I slid the bed bars as far back as possible, it would work out. You can also adjust where the tent is too, so I’d adjust the tent until it was in line with the tailgate. That’s as far back as I’d go before giving up haha! Are you getting mid-height bed bars!

The whole system actually fits on both mine and Zack’s truck, so we rigged a system in our garage that lets us switch it between the two pretty easily. So just one tent, that’s technically Zack’s, but we both use it haha 😂

Can i use the tent with my yakima rack system?
The tent has a mounting system on the bottom that basically bolts onto whatever bars are on the top/bed rails of the car/truck. You can see how we mounted the tent to the bed bars here: th-cam.com/video/YzSl2dZicy8/w-d-xo.html
What kind of truck bed rails are you using?
They are some from a local guy near me. I think he just sells them locally, but really any bed bars will work. If I bought new ones, I would get some square ones, I think the tent would mount better to them.

Rago fabrication makes a similar one, comes bare but a couple cans of line x gets the hob done
