    Dear brothers and sisters! I'm from Russia and I'm begging you to pray for suffering people of Ukraine so that God would deliver them from the war. Please, pray for conversion and transfiguration of Russia so that Russian people would be enlightened with the Light of Christ and delivered from evil rulers. Please, keep us in mind when you pray. Hundreds thousands of people had lost their lives for the past year in Ukraine - that were both military men and civilians. It must be stopped! God bless you and reward you greatly! Once again - thank you for the beautiful music and decent Liturgy!

    So beautiful. Words fail! I wish this was how the Novus Ordo would be celebrated everywhere, every time -- in such beauty, reverence, and awe! So many people would flock to the Church, if this is what they experienced every Sunday.
    Keep up the amazing work, Paul. Your works are an encouragement to the faithful everywhere who hear what God has enabled you to do! We need so much more of this!

    I just finished listening to this Mass. The only proper and genuine response to give is gratefulness to both God and (in a much lower sense) to you for using the gifts He has given for His glory! Please never stop writing such beautiful music, for beauty is our inheritance from the Lord, and many have forgotten this.
    The Novus Ordo is still new. Unfortunately, too large a number have weaponized this liturgy to fuel their preferences, causing far too many to flock to schismatic groups or run away from the Church all together. The Ordinary Form of the Mass is fully valid and ought to always be celebrated with the reverence and beauty it deserves. This Mass is an example of how we can “play with the Lord” in the way He wishes -encounter the Divine in a way that fits His awesomeness.
    I pray that this Mass and its songs will be more widely throughout the Church, that it will bear fruit now and for centuries to come. And let us never forget to pray for all persecuted Christians, and ask for the holy intercession of them and Our Lady
    God Love you!

    Beautiful. The music undergirds the homily and the theme--it eschews sentimentalism and instead challenges us to embrace truth. Michael O'Brien is a grace-touched author, and "The Island of the World" tears the heart out. Finally, I enjoy watching Mr. Jernberg conducting, because you can almost feel the joy coming from him.

      I agree with your comments, those are powerful prayers. And we watched Paul during rehearsals and how he emphasized bringing out the joy and sacredness of the music. To be reverent, not just as a performance. His expressions show how he loves bringing this beauty and prayerfulness out from everyone.

    Beautiful . But why is the Eucharistic Prayer missing ???

    • @pauljernberg8950
      @pauljernberg8950  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! There were two main reasons for not including the Eucharistic prayer in the video: 1.) in editing the film of the entire Mass, we had been asked by EWTN to focus on the music, so as to distinguish this from the other Masses which they broadcast on a daily basis, and 2.) in discussion with our priests and others, we were encouraged to leave out the Eucharistic prayer from the CD recording and film, as this is the most “intimate” moment of the Mass, which is intended primarily for those physically present, rather than as a performance to be observed from afar. We do not see this as an absolute rule, but rather as a decision which seemed most prudent in this situation. Thanks for asking!

      Thank you! Daniel 3:25-43, Acts 12:1-12, and the Beatitudes in Matthew 5. They were all chanted, but we had to edit them out of the film so as to keep it under the one hour limit for subsequent television broadcast.

      This mass setting is a very close second to what is the default in the EF. But again I would echo if the OF was done this way to two forms would be very close and produce much fruit and reverence. However for me that EF prays at the foot of the altar gets me every time, and the lavabo hits home hard. But please keep composing the right music for the masses.

    This was a wonderful liturgy. I hope to see more like this in the future. I have one question though. During the intercessions after the homily, the choir used the litany from the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom. Is it possible for masses in the Roman rite to make this the norm (Ex. a lay person/deacon chants the petitions and the people respond Lord have mercy), or was this an exception for this mass?

    • @pauljernberg8950
      @pauljernberg8950  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you for your kind words, and for your question! For norms, the place to look is the GIRM (General Instruction of the Roman Missal.) As this gives a good deal of latitude on the content of the Universal Prayer after the homily, we took the liberty to use this ancient and beautiful Litany which seems to fit so well within these norms for the Roman Rite... even though it would not be permitted (to the best of my understanding) for a lay person to sing these petitions in the Byzantine Liturgy - they belong there exclusively to the Deacon or Priest. Whether or not this could be used more extensively for the Universal Prayer in the Mass, would be left to the discretion of the celebrating priest and/or pastor. We do not use it often, but it seemed particularly appropriate for this Mass in which we were honoring and praying for those persecuted for their Faith, many of whom belong to Eastern Catholic / Orthodox Rites.

      @@pauljernberg8950 thank you for this response. I think what you’ve done here with the petitions is very creative and beautiful. Father, what about radical aggressive Christians? Christ’s people have not been and are not guiltless, especially in this rapidly growing cultural divide. You are absolutely right about persecuted and martyred Christians. Absolutely. But there are Christians around the world and in our own country who call for the execution of homosexual persons, racial minorities and people of other faiths. Christian persecution was clearly defined when the Lord appeared to Saul and asked “Why are you persecuting me.” We were the minority, the persecuted. They were after US. And tragically as you very rightly say, it is still that way in many places. But there are those among us Christians who persecute as well, who have the appetite for violence and retribution not seen since the Reformation. As terrifying as it is hearing of the martyrdom of these many holy people, I’m afraid I find it more terrifying reading and hearing the aspirations of avowed “Christians” espousing hatred, violence and the death of those they see in opposition to what they believe and want to establish. They carry the banner of Christ’s cross, but do they really belong to Him? Did all of those down through the ages, who in Christ’s name, persecuted and killed those in opposition - other Christians and Jews- did they really belong to him? We must pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters. Absolutely. But we must also beg forgiveness for those we have persecuted. Most holy Theotokos, Mother of our Savior, Mother of the Persecuted, pray for us who sing to you. Christ our God, Lover of Mankind, through the prayers of the Theotokos, save us.

    • @pauljernberg8950

      Bob, thanks for your comments. As I'm not sure if Fr. Kiely will see this, you can contact him if you wish through his website, nasarean.org. Your point is well taken, as certainly there are many who have taken the name of Christ, and of Christian, "in vain", i.e., they have taken on the name but have not followed the teaching of Christ to "love your neighbor as yourself", and furthermore to "love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" (as you say, "do they really belong to him?") While I think that Fr. Kiely would heartily agree with you on this point, the focus of his homily - and of our prayers - was on the multitude of people who are not being aggressive toward others but rather are being oppressed on account of their faith (see websites such as www.churchinneed.org/, www.opendoors.org/en-US/, or nasarean.org. - this is a "huge" story in its global dimensions which has been almost completely ignored by the media.) And the prayers we are offering are not merely for those who call themselves Christians, but for all people: including those who are being unjustly oppressed, as well as for their oppressors (as the Lord has commanded us to do), that all (including ourselves) may have true conversion of heart. I agree with you that in praying for others, whomever they may be, we must do so in a spirit of humility and repentance (as the good thief at Calvary), rather than of thinking we are somehow "above" others. My apologies if this message didn't come through as strongly as it needed to in this Liturgy! Amen to your final prayer!

      Doleo te falli. Dum latina lingua universalis Ecclesiae fovetur, eadem Ecclesia usum linguae vernaculae ad fidelium aedificationem et ad mundi evangelizationem permisit. Cum recentioribus temporibus usus linguae vernaculae in Liturgia adhibitus potuisset ad irreverentem accessum ad Sacram Liturgiam promovendam, etiam instantias videre possumus in quibus contrarium verum sit - qualia sunt in Venerabilibus Ritibus Catholicis Orientalium.
