Nothing wrong with you @NickThaQuick224 ... it hit me hard when it came out, but I just had to have my heart-dog put to sleep after a very short illness and the performance is crucifying me. She was my rock. Her name was Seren which is welsh for star ... "Your time has come to shine" etc ... but she'll still be sailing right behind for me.
I was there and when I tell you that without a doubt it was a transcendent and beautiful moment to be part of. I am still failing to put into words what we experienced. They gave their hearts and I carry it with me now. Their voices were so clear, so piercing it was almost overwhelming. Jacob said to us “This is what the world needs right now.” We were all given a gift of music and hope. Music is not dead it’s more alive than ever. Me in the audience : tears, yes Jacob, sang Mr.Legend, you betta Tori, more tears!! What a time to be alive. If you ever have the opportunity go see Jacob Collier live it is an experience that will stay with you and in your heart. Great review as always!
I was in the audience at the Greek on that night!! The audience was clearly hyped when Legend walked on stage, but the moment Tori Kelly appeared it was just **electric**! Everyone audibly said “no fucking, way that’s Tori!”, and the whole audience stood up and cheered at the same time. It sent chills down my spine!
I was there at the Greek Theatre on the 20th, and it was one of the most magical moments of my life. Seeing those three live with the whole energy of that amazing crowd was something I think I’ll never forget. All of us were in awe because we didn’t think that song was possible live, but Jacob, John, and Tori completely blew us away! The roar of surprise when John and Tori came onstage was INSANE. Honestly one of the best moments in my life!
I had the privilege of seeing him in Seattle for his djesse 4 tour and what I can't get over is the physical sensation of hearing Jacob play this song. It feels like the sound is entering your soul
I got to see this live and it was absolutely incredible. Literally the best thing I have ever experienced in my life (Maybe besides Drum Corps in person)
I am seeing it for the ninth time now (five times the video itself, and four reactions, yours is the fourth), and I still get tears streaming down my face for the whole time. And I'm not sad or bawling or something - it's sheer emotional overflow, because I'm that involved in every note and how these beautiful artists nail these notes. I think this is what Jacob Collier does: He makes each and every note matter again, while we are used to being bombarded on a daily basis with pop music that doesn't mean anything at all. Jacob can't achieve this alone, so he got help by five persons: Tori Kelly, John Legend, Art Garfunkel, Paul Simon and Yebba, who set this version in motion.
My my John Legend was killing it on his intro...went full force. Thanks for this video Charlie😊Love you and your videos. Will there be another concert? Asive from South Africa❤
Oh yeah he's on tour at the moment so there will be lots of concerts. Whether I can afford to get to one is another thing 😔. Thabk you for watching my friend ❤️
Magical indeed. Hope to one day experience the brilliance of Jacob. I felt like I was ascending. It’s crazy. Jacob delivered, John delivered and Tori delivered! Musical geniuses
Goose bumps!! I imagine those in the audience who knew their stuff, as John Legend came on stage as a surprise, they realized Tori must be on her way as well!! I SO wish I was there!
I L❤VED every stank face, smile, laugh, and wiggle you did in this reaction! 🤣 The JOY was palpable! The air sweep and mic push!!! 🤣 You're THE best, Charlie! The way Jacob interprets harmony blows my mind every single time! I HAVE seen him LIVE and he is brilliant!
I have been checking YT daily, waiting for you to react to this version. And I’m actually writing this comment BEFORE I watch your reaction because I’m betting you’re gonna be speechless when it’s done. 😊 So I hope you enjoy because I know I did…all 14 times that I watched it. 😅 Your reactions are the best, Charlie Smith. ~ Rich Muscadin
I made the mistake of first watching this is a crowded work canteen. I had to leave. I’d agree with seeing Jacob live - I’ve also seen him twice and both times were concerts unlike anything else I’ve ever seen - and also highlights of my musical life! I’d also recommend looking for his recent video of “Wild Mountain Thyme” with Laufey and Dodie…
Your child-like joy and wide-eyed wonder make me so happy. This is musical alchemy on so many levels, gold out of thin air ❤ “I’m so pissed I wasn’t there,” hahahahah. I love you my dude.
I think the bend is some kind of portamento built into the processor - occasionally you will see him reach up on the keyboard and tap a button - that effect seems to go on or off sometimes after he reaches up for it. Also remember he has a few special pedals under that rig - if not on the processor itself it could be there. :)
The glide from Jacob’s vocals is actually from a fader on the keyboard he has that specifically controls the Portamento/Glide of the notes. The synth known as Serum (and some other vintage synths) have the same effect but Jacob decided to try it on vocals because he’s like a massive genius or something. At his show in Sydney a while back he explained it a bit and said the whole vocoder synth was his and one of his friends creations. The set up also allows him to do octaves and hold drones (like he did at the start) and other things. There is even a synth bass sound for him to play simultaneously in his left hand. I mean like cmon. But even knowing all that, the way he uses it like an instrument is truly magical. Anyway enjoy the fun little fact dump
The bend is done with an old synth function that used to be called "portamento". It slips into the played note from a fourth, a fifth, a third or anything you choose to. From below, usually.
I've seen most of your reaction videos, and I was really looking forward to this one. I saw the clip a day or so ago and I have been obsessed since. His innovation and imagination is so unbridled. Take a look at his chord theory ( th-cam.com/video/meha_FCcHbo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lwirzbXMCWmNnWh4 ) - it's really interesting!
it is without a doubt a beautiful and even outstanding performance, but can someone explain to me, why people loose their shit about Tori Kellys performance? "she did it live" is something I often read... like its unusual nowadays (which seemingly it is) that people are actually capable of an actual amount of skill that they portrait in a recorded piece?! yet, all I want to say to any of those people is: have you seen any classically trained opera singers? I mean this here is not nothing, its definitely great, but loosing your shit about that skill, seems a bit much or am I objectively missing something? Honest question! Help me out here.
Still haven’t managed to watch this without sobbing… just incredible.
It's utterly exquisite isn't it. I'm still in shock

Omg I'm so jealous 😫 but so happy for you all the same ☺️
@@TheCharlieSmithChannel I would feel the same if this was in reverse. I hope you get to see him live one day.

I was there too and yes to everything you said here. Still looking for words to explain what happened that night!
Tori kelly is just killing it with the most difficult version. ❤❤❤❤

I wonder if the musical powers that be would have them sing this at the Grammy’s followed by an audience choir…..

I just saw him live in Portland for the djesse vol 4 tour and his solo performance of this was a spiritual experience. It just hits so hard.

I promise you it'll be one of the best things you do. I went 2 days in a row in the Djesse Vol 3 tour
John seriously brought the emotion. I just felt it and overwhelmed with emotion and tears

Haha yes that was an error. I've made the mistake of editing my videos in a cafe sometimes and I end up just sitting there crying by myself 😂😂
Love the reaction….and waiting for your reaction of the rest of the record. Especially World O World!

It truly is. It literally alters the chemistry in your body. Magic!
Agreed, best best.... Lucky we get to hear this music. John Killed crushed Tori crushes

Wow❤🎈❣ Full of tears of joy in my eyes❣🥰
I am so excited to see him in Copenhagen in November!
Pitchbend is in volume pedal
The BEST!! ❤❤❤
The 'bend' is an aftereffects pressure sensitive keys. 🙂
I really want to comment on this, but I always end up dumbfounded by the end of this performance... truly "beyond" in every sense

The only imperfection miss Tori have is that she goes a tad shard at some parts..Thats that..She is perfection to my ears tho❤️❤️
You should react to Little Mix, especially their live shows and acappelas

In this video he shows the 'Glide mode' in his harmonizer , that's what he's using to bend the notes
Ahh awesome. Thanks you so much man

Tempo is a bit slower, giving John and Tori more room to do their thing.
Velocity portamento
Such a different cover. Something a smidge medieval religious to my ear
John Farnham's I prefer
