Hey guys! I hope you guys enjoyed the video. As some of you guys might know, I usually only post on Saturdays and this video was scheduled to be uploaded on Saturday as well. However, I decided to post this a little earlier because I know lots of new Rotman commerce students are very confused due to the COVID-19 situation. I tried my best to explain Rotman commerce in a nutshell, so I hope you guys find this video helpful. Since I uploaded this video on Wednesday, April 22nd there will be not be a new video on Saturday, April 25th but there will be a new video next week on Wednesday, April 29th and Saturday, May 2nd to get back to my original weekly Saturday uploads. Also, I said in my video that it is very hard to get 63%, but what I meant to say is that it is harder than you think it is (it is not very hard, I don’t want to scare any first years off 😂😂 Sorry for the confusion!).
Hey Richard, I’m currently at UTSC studying Management. At first I wanted to be in a COOP program, however I dropped the coop program because I need the summers to run my own business. Since I’m not doing COOP do you think I should try and transfer to Rotman (is that even possible?)? If not what is the difference in terms of education and life between UTSC Management and Rotman? Since I have no clue because everything is online...
Hey Richard, thanks for the helpful info! I’m excited to come to Rotman in September! Just wondering, what textbooks did you use in microeconomics and math? I wanted to start reviewing in the summer so I have a bit of an easier time next year.
Also one more thing! I said in my video (1:53) that you need to get over 63% for all required courses, but you need to get over 67% for RSM 100 (but for everything else it’s 63%). Sorry for the confusion!
This video was great! I've been trying to binge your videos to get an understanding of UofT since this summer I am trying to research more about universities and see which ones I want to apply to. I want to do Rotman Commerce and this gave me a good perspective on it, thank you!
@@samuelyeung3041 Yes of course! These RC events are open to all the Rotman students and some are even open to Non-Rotman students as well (You don't need to be an intern for RC clubs to attend the events). I hope this helped and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Thanks for making all these vids Richard! I look forward to joining Rotman this fall and was super nervous because I heard UofT is really rigorous and difficult. You helped put managing it into perspective, which is really helpful. Can I ask how you manage your stress and anxiety? What did you do if/when you feel like you're drowning in academics/university?
Great question and thank you so much for you kind words👍👍 The way I managed my stress was mainly by talking to my friends and family. University life can be tough but talking about what I am going through to the people around me really helped me and they also gave me a great advise. Some of my friends like to go work out or watch a movie to deal with their stress and I think its important to find what works for you. For more information on this I suggest that you watch my other video "How to survive your first year at University of Toronto". I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
I'm debating over rotman vs schulich right now so a video interviewing a schulich student would be really helpful! Like the one you did with the reyerson buisness student as well
What extracurriculars were you involved in during high school and what was your average (if you don’t mind me asking)? How did you make yourself stand out in your supplementaries?
This is a great question, so the answer to this question is in my other video "How I got into University of Toronto & UBC" but I will answer it for you in this comment as well. My aggregate average in high school was 97% and some of my extracurricular activities include working at my provincial legislative building and working as an ambassador and the main emcee in the biggest multicultural event in my province. When you watch my other video you will have a much better understanding but I think the most important thing that made me stand out from others was being genuine in the supplementary application process. I hope I was able to help and if you have any further questions after watching my other video please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Oh RIGHT!! you are completely right, I will put the correction in the description and on my comment. Thank you so much and thank you for your kind words bro👍👍!!
That's a great suggestion! I will most definitely make that video in the future😄 and yes I sure hope I can pass 1000 subs soon! Once again thank you for your amazing suggestion!
hey! Im going to UofT for Kin in the fall and im really excited!. Ive applied for new college and I think you said in another video that you are in new college too. What are the different styles of rooms you can get? I know I want single, but I've seen some "studio apartment" looking ones, and also just normal single rooms. How do you pick?
Great question, so I answered all the questions regarding residence application in my latest video, so I would highly recommend watching that video if you have time. There are definitely "studio apartment" looking dorms like Campus one or Chest nut, these dorms are much better than single/double dorms but are also more expensive as well. For more information on this I would recommend watching my older video "Everything you need to know about University of Toronto dorms". Also I am part of New College as well👍👍 I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Thanks for making this video! I'm planning to apply to Rotman this fall so your videos are really informative and helpful. As a high school student, do you think there is any way I could prepare for business school before I attend university? (Such as taking an online economics course or reading business related books.) I want to know what I would be learning in uni and prepare a bit beforehand. Thanks :)
This is a great question, so yes I would definitely recommend going over some of the things you will learn in first year before coming to university. This way it will be easier for you manage your time and you will have a much easier time at uoft. I would suggest reading some business/economics related news and just going over some of the basics of economics. Also thank you for your kind words, I am very glad that my videos were able to help. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Regarding the Rotman tuition, I saw some where that the first year you pay the arts and science tuition, and then rotman starts in your second year. Is that true? Thanks
Great question, so yes that is true👍👍. Rotman students pay less in their first year compared to any other years and I believe its because Rotman students pay Arts & Science tuition in their first year. I hope I was able to help and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Richard Han thanks! Another think I wanted to ask is about the reputation of uoft as the “university of tears” and all the negative stuff people say about it. I’ve watched some of your other videos, and you seem to think highly of uoft. My question is, how much validity is there to all of the negative comments (regarding impossible academics and no social life) on the web? Thanks again.
@@Benanator2000 No problem and great question again! So I would say some of the negative things you find on the web are true but some are definitely over exaggerated. I believe there is a reason why uoft is challenging and I think it definitely teach students something. I hope I was able to help a little and if you have any further questions please let me know!
Hi! I'm in grade 11 at the moment and am thinking of going to Rotman. But I've been put off by a lot of negative comments about the program such as how it's very cutthroat, hard to get good grades or pass courses, and how there's a lack of career support provided by the university as compared to other Business programs such as ivey, queens, etc. Does Rotman help in finding good co-ops and internships? Those are very important to me as it makes finding employment after graduation a lot easier. As well, is the learning a balance of textbook and case based or is it simply rigorous tests and exams?
Great question, so yes rotman is hard but you also learn so much from the whole experience as well. Rotman does lack in terms of career support but many Rotman students find good jobs because recruiters know that Rotman is one of the top undergrad business school in Canada. The learning is a good balance of textbooks, real life cases and exams. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Okay, I have a question so my grades in high school are not necessarily the best but they aren’t the worst. Do you still think I have a chance to potentially get into a university to become a financial manager or no? Thanks.
Great question, so I did join RCSA during my first year and I had a great privilege to work as one of their Interns between 2019 - 2020. Also I am very glad you found this video helpful! I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have further questions please let me know.I wish the best of luck to you in the future !!
@@rosexiaoyueniu699 Oh sorry! I read the question wrong. So yes first I had to submit my resume with a cover letter, then after I was called in for an interview. I hope this helped and if you have any further questions please let me know!
Great question, although since I am not an IB student I wouldn't be able to give you a clear answer on this but it seems like it does help in some way. For me some of the materials like accounting and management were very new but for students who took these courses in high school (IB students) seemed to have an easier time learning these courses. IB only helps in transfer credits to replace some courses. However, it is not recommended as the university preparation for future courses in university is better adapted than high school education.
Hi Richard! once again an amazing video! If you don’t mind could I get to know whether students who wanna go from the economics stream should also be in Rotman commerce? And in the second year for the main paths is it a must that we should choose economics and finance stream if we want to or isn’t there only economics without finance? Hope the question is clear .. anyways love your content and explanations! Keep up the good work! :)👍
This is a great question, so many of my friends who want to study just economics choose to major in economics and didn't apply to Rotman. This is because economics in uoft is very strong as well (So I think majoring in economics is a very good option as well). I am not too sure if you can just choose to specialize in economics if you are in Rotman, I think the only possible options are management, accounting and finance & economics. However I am not 100 percent sure so I would suggest that you contact Rotman about this as well. Also thank you for your kind words, I am very glad that you like my videos👍👍! I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Hey I got an alternative offer in humanities & science but I want to do international business and management at rotman. Can I transfer after my first year in art & science?
Hey! I'm reallt interested in applying to Rotman but I'm curious if as student there you have time for yourself to enjoy your student life as well. I want to study in a competitive environment but do still want time to explore the city as well! Do you think Rotman allows that?
I don't think there is any specific average you need to get into RC, I think it's more about how well you did in high school compared to other applicants in your year👍👍!
@@RichardHan Do you think a 90+ average (combined with ECs like air cadets, deca, etc.) is good enough to get into rotman? I'm currently in grade 10 and my average over all my core classes (science, english, social, and math) is 93, and I know that a lot is going to change in grade 11 and they wont look at my gr 10 marks but I'm honestly not sure what's considered competitive for Rotman because the website just says mid-high 80s but I know that can't be true.
@@not_varijhey, I’m assuming your in grade 11 now, but I am currently in grade 10 with an average of around mid 90s too. I am sure I can up my game to around high 90s in my senior years of highschool but will that be enough? For ECs I also have DECA and other business related experiences. What’s the update? Anything changed? Are you still aiming for rotman commerce?
Great question, so there aren't any required grades or extracurricular activities you need to get into Rotman Commerce. There might be minimum required grades but I think it's really all about how good your grades are compared to other applicants in your year. I also think it's very important for students to do extracurricular activities that shows one's strengths. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish you the best of luck in your future!
Great question, so I don’t think there are any “easy” clubs to join but if you want less competition I would suggest that you try out for a less “popular” club. This goes out to say that all the RC clubs are great so try to find the one that interests you the most. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
Great question, so I actually don't really know the meaning behind uoft logo😂😂. However I will look into it and try to make a video about it in the future. Hi, Richard. Which school do you think is the best school for computer engineering? I currently have five options and I am hesitating a lot due to financial issues. U of T computer engineering with $0 scholarship UBC engineering with $85k scholarship/4 years Waterloo computer science with $2k scholarship Waterloo computer engineering with $2k scholarship McGill computer engineering (expecting scholarship soon) I am not trying to brag about myself. I need serious advice. I am an international student from Korea and as you may know, the tuition fee for internationals is ridiculously expensive. My original aim was U of T, but they don't give me any scholarship and have the highest tuition which is like $305k/4 years. I am kind of doubting myself about the prestigiousness of U of T degree over that crazy price. However, at the same time you know, Asian parents generally consider the ranking as the most important thing and I do also agree with that. My parents are I would say OK to pay $305k, but not as rich as those Chinese tycoons (no offense). If you were me, which decision would you make? Should I just go for U of T?
If ur aiming to work in Asia after graduating, only consider the Canada holy trident schools aka UofT, McGill and UBC. If ur aiming to work in US, only wloo. If ur aiming to work in Canada, all ur options aren't bad given u know how to network.
Hey Justin first of all congratulations on this amazing feat, you should really celebrate with your friends and family on this. As you may know I am also Korean and to see another Korean student accomplish such a performance makes me proud. So I can certainly see that this is a very hard decision to make. I will be straight forward and tell you what I would do in your situation first. If you were originally aiming for uoft and if you and your parents are okay with paying the high price I would go to uoft. At least for me, if I had a goal that I was striving towards to in all of my high school life (or even longer than high school) I would want to achieve that original goal because that's what kept me going. Even if I went to a different school I think I will have regrets/second thoughts on what my life could have been like if I just kept going with my original plan. I am sure you have a very good reason why you choose uoft as your original goal and I think it would be a good idea to rethink about what sparked your interest in the first place. However I want to emphasize that other universities that you got accepted to are all very prestigious as well. So no matter what you choose, all these universities will offer you with very good education. So I say really try to choose what you want and not what you think others want you to choose. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. Feel free to contact me more if you need help. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
@@RichardHan Thank you very much for both of your lengthy and kind reply, Richard and Andrew. You're straight forward comments were really helpful. As you recommended, I should just stick with U of T, in case I might work back in Korea. Again, thank you so much! Good luck!
For Ontario work positions... Finance: Ivey/Queens > McGill/ Sauder/Rotman > Schulich/Wloo/Laurier > other no names Accounting: they r all about the same but wloo, Schulich and rotman will get an edge For US: Finance: Ivey > Queens > McGill > Rotman/Wloo/Sauder > Schulich/Laurier > other no names Accounting: not too sure

Hey! I'm reallt interested in applying to Rotman but I'm curious if as student there you have time for yourself to enjoy your student life as well. I want to study in a competitive environment but do still want time to explore the city as well! Do you think Rotman allows that?
I'm a grade 12 student and I was wondering what average I need to get into Rotman commerce?
What all extracurriculars and grades are required to get into rotman commerce? Please help
How much is the fees for Canadian students
Hi, I'm attending rotman commerce next year and is very interested in joining the clubs. Which club would u say is the easiest to join? Thx
I dont have crazy insane activies so kind of worried.
Don’t be worried it’s okay if you don’t have insane activities. Just try to be as genuine as possible!
Richard Han Thank u. Is it true these associations are relatively hard to join. And clubs are easier?
I personally think both associations and clubs are on the same level !
is all this course you have to choose
Thanks bro for this video
No problem, it's my pleasure👍👍!
Dear Richard,
I am a future Rotman student and would like some general advice.
Thank You
Can u plz tell me about the uni logo/ batch ...
Great question, so I actually don't really know the meaning behind uoft logo😂😂. However I will look into it and try to make a video about it in the future. Sorry that I couldn't answer your question but thank you for your great suggestion. If you have any further questions/suggestions please let me know and I wish the best of luck to you in the future!
@@RichardHan oh no ..dear don't say sorry ... i will waite your ans about the uni logo/ batch ...
Since I have no clue because everything is online..
Got kicked out if Rotman honestly deserved. Wasted money and especially time. Now doing Ryerson BM... Respect to those who actually succeed.
Oh no I am so sorry to hear that. It’s very sad and unfortunate that you can no longer be part of RC but that actually happens to lots of people so please don’t feel bad about yourself. Regardless, thank you so much for sharing your candid experience with Rotman Commerce and I wish you the best at Ryerson👍👍
B.B.A course available in rotman commerce?
I am not too sure if Rotman offers B.B.A, I would highly recommend you to reach out to the university about this question. I am sorry that I wasn't able to answer your question but if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish you the best of luck in your future!
@@RichardHan thankyou bro✌💙
Hi, Richard. Which school do you think is the best school for computer engineering? I currently have five options and I am hesitating a lot due to financial issues.
U of T computer engineering with $0 scholarship
UBC engineering with $85k scholarship/4 years
Waterloo computer science with $2k scholarship
Waterloo computer engineering with $2k scholarship
McGill computer engineering (expecting scholarship soon)
I am not trying to brag about myself.
Good luck!
Lovely
Hey man, What’s the difference between B.Com from Rotman College and B.Com from Mississauga?
Rotman Business School brand name.
Can I get 100% scholarship in rotman school of management for mba
As far as I know I don't think there aren't any guaranteed scholarships!
✍️
I thought UBC Sauder was the top in Canada lol but Rotman is also very good! Thanks for the video.
Thank you for your kind words and Sauder is definitely up there as well👍👍
i got accepted to rc this year
So how is it? Is it as depressing as everyone says?
@@elena-kk8sg i didn't go lmao, because i heard it's really stressful. i go to ubc instead
was it easy to get into?
I’d probably say:
Queens Commerce
Ivey
Rotman Commerce
McGill
Sauder
Laurier and Schulich
In that order for undergrad
i’d say:
Tier 1: Ivey, QC
Tier 2: McGill Desautels, Laurier/Waterloo BBA/BMath
Tier 3: Schulich, Laurier, Rotman, Sauder
Tier 4+: Everything else
For Ontario work positions...
Finance: Ivey/Queens > McGill/ Sauder/Rotman > Schulich/Wloo/Laurier > other no names
Accounting: they r all about the same but wloo, Schulich and rotman will get an edge
For US:
Finance: Ivey > Queens > McGill > Rotman/Wloo/Sauder > Schulich/Laurier > other no names
Accounting: not too sure
