I remember when this ball first came out. The major league I was bowling in at the time had a gal who normally threw only a small hook suddenly was ripping the rack like crazy. She was using the Excalibur where most of the rest of us were still using standard urethane.
watch 92 AC Delco. Bo Burton couldnt believe some of McDowell's shots
At 66 and with no local bowling centers at all, I rarely bowl these days.. when I do, I still have my vintage Brunswick LT-51 (circa 1978) and LInds custom bowling shoes (same timeframe) and that's the only equipoment I have. I doubt using more modern stuff would help me much at this point. Love still having this ancient stuff.
The ball that triggered the modern tech bowling revolution and for some, sadly ended the Golden Era of Bowling.
Golden era,more like Olden era
@@sriley064 The era when timing and accuracy were important.
@@ronwest217 It still is, genius. Oil patterns dictate that now.
Forrest, the true 220 average bowler.
I had one of these. I worked in a pro shop and we got one in 15#, and none of the other macho guys were willing to throw it. It went sideways compared to my blue hammer, which was one of the hookingest ball on the market at the time.
For those who might not know the history of this ball, look up the 1992 PBA AC-Delco Classic. It’s the first telecast where this ball was thrown. Bo Burton the commentator could not even wrap his mind around how sharp it was breaking for the time. It really is fascinating to go back and watch.
I never had one of those specific balls back in the day, but in defense of it: It's old. I guarantee you it's not as good as it was when it was new. Nowhere near as much friction. If you could somehow time portal one from 91 to now and drill it brand new, I bet it'd stack up very well.
I remember the first reactive I had, a Piranha C, Green. I hadn't bowled for about 4 years. Started back, had all urethane and plastic, and was scratching my head over why I couldn't hook the ball much. I usually threw a pretty strong ball. Was using a Blue Hammer, (hookingest urethane I had ever seen) that was drilled with thumb and negative side and sanded, to hook early, and trying to tear the cover off of it and it just would barely move. Pro shop guy who had known me since I was a kid watched and said "I'll drill you one up, it's not you it's the ball". I was skeptical. Then I went in when he was about done and say him drilling a shiny pearl ball and was REALLY skeptical.
Went and through it, slow because I just KNEW it wasn't going to hook. Hooked off the lane. I was a believer then.
Those balls amplified the prevailing lower rev higher axis rotation releases of that time. They were competing with 1st generation urethane, and were beasts by comparison
I still have this ball, along with the Ebonite Turbo/X in a bag, both at 16lbs. I was bowling Collegiates when this ball came out, and like others, was still throwing urethane at the time. After that tournament, I immediately went to my PSO, and got both of these drilled. Hardest hooking balls at the time, when kids were asking how it was hooking more than everything they had at their dullest. For this ball to still hit as hard as it is while others that are softer crack says a lot about the durability of this ball, let alone possible usability.
When the Xcalibur came out, one of its biggest flaws was it "ran out" of "Reactive" reaction. They eventually brought out a Cleaning Product used in 2 Stages to Clean, and then "re-activate" the Resin.... It was quickly overtaken by Balls that needed less maintenance....
Owned this ball back when it first came out. Taking it to the long-gone Riverdale Lanes (where Mike Lichstein cut his teeth), would go ~54' straight up 4 before making a left turn at Albuquerque and annihilating the rack.
I always wondered if people just came up to you guys and fanned out. So cool to include that interaction! She was so excited to meet you guys 🤣
“I think you said nutter butterz”. Michael chooses: violence.
A never ending battle of get the ball that hooks the most then complain that there isn't enough oil on the lanes. This X Calibur ball was GREAT back in the day. It became a dinosaur as centers had to keep putting more oil on the lanes for people who want their balls to hook more and more.
I agree. I think the sport dumping more oil and getting rid of wood lanes totally killed the feel of the sport I once knew. I bowled almost my entire life on wood, so I didnt run into synthetic and oil dumping as much as most people do. When wood lanes were flooded with oil, they were slick as can be though.
I never realized how tall Forest was until he stood next to that lady lol
I remember Going from 205 to 215 in just a few weeks back in the day blue hammer hit and X were night and day difference good times miss those days...😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
The "first" X-Calibers had a distinct purple haze to them. Later, after Columbia took it over and it has the look of the ball you are throwing and was less reactive. The original ones were devastating and snapped hard. XCalibur also made a softer blue shell which most people dont even know existed. This cover was literally so soft that you could rub your fingers off the cover like it was gumball texture. My friend bought the blue one when we both got purples. He shot a massive 800+ series the first time he used it in a tournament. I dont know whatever happened to the blue one, as that was the only one I ever saw one.
Enjoyed the video gentlemen! Highlight was when Michael photobombed in the video-got me laughing.
I have to imagine that the reaction as a ball that is over 30 years old is a bit different than when it was new. I have a Track Synergy that I still take out from time to time.
Love the videos man, you and 220 have inspired me to do bowling videos, I've been busy with work but I'm hoping to get back at it here in the next couple weeks!
Perfect timing to watch on my break
Also pretty cool how you interact with fans
When that ball first came out, it was unusable on many lanes. Hooked way too much. Funny how things have changed.
On synthetic lanes that ball struggles to move, however on wood the X-caliber probably would do a little better. Back in the 90s Xcaliber, Rhino Pro, purple and teal, turbo X
I have an Ebonite Crush/R which I believe was manufactured in 1990. Back in the day I the threw an 808 with it. I found another one, undrilled, so I had to buy it. This ball is a reactive ball from 1990.
Second shot and Forrest farts. 😂🤣
I still have my Purple Rhino Pro RR from the early 90's.
I will have to share this video to with some guys that knew the creator of this ball and also threw the ball back in the day.
Michael: you're now 220 average bowler
Me: well atleast he can bowl a 220 average, unlike the actual 220 average bowler
Its always fun to see these old balls with a modern release. I feel like the old videos of 90s tournaments they had more tilt and way more axis rotation even on the straighter angles
now it does have one of the best weightb;locks
My pops shot a 300 with that ball out of the box. We have it on his bar.
Damn I'm old.... I had one mid 90's
Crazy to see how it hooks at the arrows almost. Forest, question so being on staff how does that work when making videos like this. Do you get in trouble or do you just have to make a disclaimer like you did at first?
I think Forrest is okay here, considering that I can't even remember the last ball Nu-Line even made.
had friend bowl 7 plus 300's in less than one year with that ball, the ball is more famous , than forrest and there won't be any carryover from one to the other
Remember seeing msrc McDowall break this out on tv in 92-93

remember Bo's reaction to the one strike that "looked like it hit a brick down there." There was another telecast right next to it where some unknown heavy roller lead the PBA event and won. Those two titles put XCalibur on the map for good. I wish I had the original purple and blue that they made before Columbia took them over.
@@MrMice... only if it was on Friday the 6th
It's on TH-cam...1992 AC Delco Classic
As a storm staffer, did you have to get permission to throw this ball?
I still have my first ball I got in 1979 - a rubber Johnny Petraglia LT-48. Try bowling with one of those. After I wrote this Mr. Kritzer mentioned it.
I have a video up throwing my dad's 1968 ebonite tornado. You can still bank them off the dry on the side but most of the older balls won't hook much on the back end.
It’s not so much technology. It was used on short oil. This oil pattern has way more units.
it used to be all about the backends. I dont know if that still applies. If the center hasnt dried them for awhile, like leagues have bowled on them, the carry down used to be the key reason. I once bowled on lanes where the entire lane got oiled on accident by the machine, thru the backends and there was no hook at all. Even pointing from the corner to the pocket on a straight line was not enough to carry.
See if you can find a lime green Nitro reactive.....one of the early reactives and it was a great ball too.
That ball on short oil was cheating
Face off with the Rock core ball!
I remember driving to San Jose after seeing it on TV. Bought it at Futurama bowl I think. Bought it blank for 200. Friend drilled it and shot 798 first night. Missed 10 pin cost me 800. 😆
you have the most perfect form
Thank you🥹
First reactive ball. Had one bowled on wood with it. Turbo X was better.
@MrGamma-gw5zh my 1st one too
Shot 257 out of the box with it
I suddenly developed a really sore wrist, discovered last night when I started bowling practice. I have a tournament to play on Friday. Anyone with a good suggestion how one might mitigate this issue to get through a tournament? .. I have taken some anti-inflammatory medication and considering using one of my bowling wrist braces (doesn't restrict release), but aside from that perhaps someone has had to work through the same thing and may have a good recommendation (other than, don't use it 😁)?
BTW, I love that ball .. so cool that Michael was able to acquire that. Watched his first video with it a while back. Very cool bowling ball.
I love that ball I had 3 of the XCalibers.Killer ball
I love the first song that played in the video, was a sick drum and bass track too bad It didn’t play all the way out. 🤪
Glad you liked it. I love drum and bass songs too. I have tons of them on my workout playlist.
@@ForrestKritzer you should definitely check out my favorite Pendulum! They are a live drum and bass band that mixes metal with their music as well… Definitely something worth listening to and working out too! Let me know and I will give you some song recommendations if you want! 🤪🥁
Nutter butters. Why does Mikey hate nutter butters? Lol, I really want to see him wearing the nutter butters t-shirt.
The oldest ball I have is a storm hot rod from 2003
Oh wow. I had one as a kid lol Dannnnnnmmm I’m old!
That ball was amazing
There’s a guy on my Monday league that uses a X caliber and I have a 90’s Teal Rhino Pro but I don’t use it lol
That early reactive will be skiddish in the oil. Hit the dry without moving your feet and it should be high flush. It will not be bery forgiving, though.
I know a guy who still uses one of these during a second shift league and crushes with it.
I have a Columbia white dot and a black angel from thev70,s used...collecting dust
I had the x calibur solid- the purple one.
It was the Super X Calibur.
I loved that ball. I shot my 2nd 300 with it!! Try to find the Pin Breaker or Golden Angle!!!
Do a video on particle balls just like 220 average bowler!
Aye Forest, what's the song playlist?
Its songs from my personal workout playlist
Loved my Xcalibur...until it died on me during roll-offs and all I had to fall back on was a hand-me-down gray Angle. What? This was right before arsenals when people only had 1 or 2 balls.
I shot my first 800 series with that ball
I had one of them a few years ago
I dare you to bowl the us open
That damn ball began the decline of the sport I love so well.
Cool video talk tech bowling ball open bowling Forrest and Michael
You guys should do a subscriber challenge
I would love to get my hands on another Xcalibur, I had it when it first came out ! Can you send me that one ?
Try spraying a ball with silicone lol
Why does 220 look like chicken little
not true. it was a black hammer.
forrest I see video with tape covered ball, try doing videos with tape over the mouth see how that works, lol
My dad’s old ball that I always remember. I’d like to buy him one. Can’t find it anywhere…😔
music please
R u gonna be at a booth at jr gold
I don’t think so
A 2 1/2??? It had to be a 7 😀
That’s what she said?😮
So called 220 average bowler doesn't know something even i know
That ball,only came in 15lb and 16lb
SPI allows you to throw a Nu-Line ball? I know they're no longer in business but technically Track brought them out.
Uhh
Yuh
😎🥇
Hi Forrest !!!
Hi Jen!👋🏻
