At some point the outlook on finance in marriage shifts and you stop thinking about it as 50/50 or income dependent but more like one number for the entire household. And if both are aligned in terms of future goals and spending behavior then many potential arguments about finance just disappear

But it might take a second for newlyweds to realize that just because some spending is only for one person or is higher for one person it doesn't mean you need to have separate budgets. Like, I don't know, keep hygiene/make up products separate. And when he is on the way and it's easier for him to buy them then what, you give him money back? Ridiculous 😂 That's a totally different concept. One household budget, not a 50/50 joint account for bills and purchases that in general benefit both of us
oo fascinating! great perspective. after some time passes (and we enter postnup conversations), we'll start looking into how merging our finances actually work on our accounts.
i think things will definitely change a lot more once kids enter the picture and one person needs to take a step back from work. lots of planning to do!
@@shalizeboh125 hm idk which reply this is to, but i don't think we ever had a moment where we "owed" the other person. we kind of just swap off covering each other based on convenience or points and it pretty much evens out to 50/50. we don't track it very stringently. we generally like providing for each other at the current moment ~

Definitely agree with everything related to weddings in SoCal!! My friend got to see a western style venue in OC that had the Asian banquet food! Maybe you could look into venues that might have this option!
I did!! I didn’t super love the decor tho :/ but the food is pretty banger at Asian banquet halls!

I also have a qq if you dont mind - you spoke about potentially having a wedding in Taiwan so costs would be less. But those costs kinda get offloaded to the guests right? In the form of travel costs? I had close friends have weddings in their home countries, and it felt devastating to miss it, but at the same time I couldnt afford such an expensive trip :( , so i guess im j curious what your thoughs are on this! (No judgement at all)
Yes very good question! We put together an invite list and asked all of our core friends if this is within budget. Since it’s quite far out and because we’re all in pretty stable stages of our careers, everyone was happy to go. Their attitude was mostly excited about making a trip out of it. Very blessed in this respect!
Just had my civil marriage too, and am now planning for the ‘reception’ day. Pretty overwhelming but I am sure that it’ll be worth it. Congratulations and all the best for your wedding planning too!

We also did courthouse to save money and avoid all of the stress. We’re happy and glad we did because we saved up a lot of a house, a car and welcome our newborn.

Speaking of weddings, my friends still rave about how good the food was at our wedding 😁 We had the traditional 8 course Chinese/Vietnamese dinner, but at a more modern venue.

My niece just did a perfect wedding. My sister enjoyed so so much. I don't think it costs a lot of money in Asia. It is a good memory. It is only once in a lifetime. I don't think money will be an issue for you two because there is different ways to save money in the wedding. But, time may be an issue for many people. Best wishes to both of you.

I don’t think there isn’t anything wrong with have a wedding oversees. I personally think it’s so much better than the US. As you said. The weddings here are so expensive for a basic and plain wedding

Congrats! What will really get your parents excited is once you have kids and they get to play with them (especially when they call them yeh yeh and nai nai for the first time!). Daycare costs are no joke though at $500 to $600 per week per kid in many major cities for Monday to Friday (full-time) care.
i do have massive baby fever T_T!! but i gotta work out a few things in my life first to feel a bit more ready.
also i'm terrified of the daycare costs. ahhhh!

Curious why you didn’t like SF? (Me from LA wanting to move to SF)
ah this is a really big question and i definitely think i'll be generalizing a bit, but the big items are:
1. real estate is way too expensive
2. SF itself is extremely mismanaged and doesn't provide enough resources for the communities I want to build up
3. not a great place to raise kids given the costs, safety, and lack of spaces for kids to openly learn in.
I do miss martuni's - a piano bar in SF. I used to go there pretty much every monday night for showtunes night and sing a song with the pianist there. the local theatre community is incredible - nothing but positive vibes and support for each other.
i also did like san mateo - it's such a cute area! but it is quite expensive to live there :(

We live in Copenhagen, Denmark - our parents are back in Lebanon so flying people here is expensiiiiiive, we didn't want to pay 10 OR 100 grand for a single night back there and we want to own a house (too) and it's just a lot of hassle for just a night!!! So yes - courthouse and yes cutie pictures. I bought a designer dress but I wanted that, and my ring is almost same specs haha also lab grown.
We have a shared account where we're saving for a house deposit for next year, but we do have our money perfectly split.
