No dialogue was needed for this epic finale; 7 and 1/2 minutes of perfection. Fun facts: 1. Cinematographer Dante Spinotti could not get the angle of view that he wanted for the sweeping shot beginning @ 1:47, so he had a wooden platform built out from the rock to place the camera on. No one would venture out on the platform, so he went out on it, jumping up and down to show its' sturdy build, and shot the scene himself. 2. There was, for a time, a Bar-B-Que restaurant named "Duncan's Bar-B-Que ( LOL) in the town of Chimney Rock at the base of the mountain. 3. In October 1997, my wife and I climbed the North Trail just as Magua, Cora, the Huron, Hawkeye and Chingachgook took (now closed off). We ate a picnic lunch on the boulder just to the left of Magua's head @ 7:32. To say that we were obsessed with this movie would be an understatement (we still are to this day).
Chimney Rock may be where the movie was shot, but the book and the towns in the movie are where the non-fictional part of the movie takes place. The area I grew up in, in the Adirondacks of NY, specifically from the Albany NY area to Lake George along the Hudson River, I lived on a dirt road that dead eneded at the Hudson River, played in the same woods all of this would have taken place along the river. Fort Ticondaroga looking over Lake Champlain and Fort William Henry still overlooks Lake George, both are still there and open to the public. The bridge in the town I grew up over a set of falls is named the Fenimore bridge after James Fenimore Cooper, their are businesses all around the area named after the author, even a little cave under the waterfalls that is called "Cooper's Cave". Actors climbed the North Trail in Chimney Rock but the characters in the book or movie were in upstate ny the entire time.
i had a friend in college, when she would come back to the dorm drunk, she would come find me and ask, "wanna watch the end of last of the mohicans?" she did this so often that everyone in the dorm thought we were having sex, but it was really about watching one of the most epic endings to a movie.
Great title for this video. This is my absolute favorite movie of all time. Duncan sacrificing him self so the love of his life would live is heart wrenching. Duncan embodied the honor he always strived for and desired right in that moment. Such a G.
Yes, a surprising moment, the first time I saw it. As much as the audience was meant to not like Duncan, he stayed true to his values at the end even in the face of a horrific death. Also, very realistic that the tribe would be more honored to burn him, an enemy warrior, than burning her. And this was only the beginning of the surprises at the end...
One of the best movies ever made. And it's not only fiction there is a real story behind it. I miss the part of the ending were he said I'm the last of the Mohicans.
This blockbuster movie with superb direction & compelling storytelling of every kind of human emotion should have won an Oscar hands down. This is a movie worthy to be watched over & over again...a masterpiece that will outlive all others....a classic that will live through the ages.
Although there is always a question of personal taste, the reality is that as a whole this film is not that good, its best part is this ending which is fantastic, the rest is Ok. Something similar to the movie 'Up!' from Pixar that has one of the best and most moving beginnings, but the rest of the film is just Ok.
The incomparable Wes Studi. The incomparable Daniel Day-Lewis. Two absolute powerhouse actors who nailed this film. Nothing like it before, and nothing like it since. Add in the deeply intense music and this film has it all.
This should have won the Oscar even though Silence of the Lambs was a great movie, this score, the actors, the story was just amazing and undoubtedly one of the best ever made movies. 🎥 🍿 ❤💯💯 I listen to this soundtrack while mountain biking. ❤
@@ffrick73 It was loaded. It was the rifle he snagged off of the two dead warriors he shot right before. You'll hear the sound of him dropping both weapons and then snatching up the two more from the Huron he dropped at the same time. Finally after his dad came charging out of the shrubbery, Hawkeye drops another Huron taking aim at him, and then holding up the one loaded rifle he had left.
he fires the musket he picked up off one of the two Indians he shot with his rifle and another musket then throws that aside and holds them at Bay with his rifle that he did not reload after firing
The way these dude's trail run through the entire movie has actually inspired me like nothing else in my life. I trail run in the mountains and now have a business helping runner's with joint issues.
a legendary movie..and the music is legendary... and when there is only majestic nature in the frame, the music also admires this greatness... and in this place, the music is especially beautiful, as if to say - in such a divine place, how can you kill, and not forgive everyone and everything
I was in that movie,I worked as an extra, background and such, the film and the music always brings back special memories,I met a lot of wonderful people, most of my work was at the fort which was located at Lake James,.
The fact that Day-Lewis learned how to load and shoot a seven years war musket while running is amazing to me. It's not drawing things with his foot but its unreal
Beware the old man in a profession where men usually die young! I just love how well this scene demonstrates this! Muaga is older than Uuncas and owns him but chinchgatchuk is older and wiser than all of the Huron warriors and just completely owns them all!
I love the way the final battle magua doesn't even lay a finger on him. Just feels the full force of his rage and is destroyed instantly. The soundtrack isn't bad either.
As skilled, dangerous, ruthless and accomplished a warrior as Magua obviously was, it's still remarkable and stunning how totally dominated and thoroughly outclassed he was by Chingachook.

This movie has it all: Betrayal, Loyalty, Sacrifice, Revenge, Love, Courage, History, Culture and great theme.

Never compares this master piece, this Is the Best of Best, everything Is well, and the rumble to end Is fenomenal, great forever.
I never did understand why the soundtrack to this movie was not nominated for an Oscar.
I agree makes me weep and gives me goose bumps along with the cinema photography

Combination between courage, love, sacrifice, revenge, and music. ❤
I didn´t even know this movie existed. I am 14 years old and I am in awe!! I will tell my mom to find in on Netflix!
You should, it's epic.
Deeply moving. The ending of the young girl reminds me of the epic of a Greek tragedy.
Named my daughter after Madeleine Stowe , that’s how much I love this movie
