The opening and locking of this knife IS magical. I'm not even a huge Spyderco fan, but this thing is a work of art. Not only that--it is just a great usable, highly functional knife. Fantastic.
Great review, thanks for showing all of them :) I have the Sage 1, it is SO nice looking. I don't care if the scales aren't 100% carbon fiber, it still looks great. One of the SMOOTHEST knives I own, and has some of the best fit and finish I've ever seen on a knife. And yes, I know EXACTLY what you mean about that sound when you deploy the blade! I thought I was the only one who noticed that, I mentioned that exact thing in my review.
Spyderco really blew it on this one. I have 22 Spyderco knives and now with the Sage 1 in pocket for 14 months I've stopped buying any more knives. Hard to improve on perfection.
Thanks for the review! Moved to the top of my EDC want list. Also, got a kick out of the OCD with making sure they line up right when setting them all out.
At least for a little while. Any knife I spend 100+ on stays at home for a little while before I EDC it. I have a feeling though that this knife is gonna be a favorite. Awesome Review!
ordered it yesterday and it's coming tomorrow. can't wait to try it out, especially since it's going to be my first spyderco knife. i overpaid for it but hopefully it's still worth it. (paid $148 including tax and shipping)
The Sage CF is my most prized knife. (I know I have a pretty weak collection by knife enthusiast standards). I totally get what you said about the lock sound. It has a distinct click that sounds very refined when you open the blade. It's also a beautiful knife to look at and really feels good in hand. I wear it mostly when I am a little more dressed up and don't want to have my normal EDC (spyderco resilience) standing out like a sore thumb. Can't bring myself to use it too much as my EDC.
2:07 my experience exactly.I wasn’t really bothered with carbon fiber....then I bought a carbon fiber chaparral to test cts-xhp and as soon as I handled it I was bitten by the carbon fiber bug. That reaffirmed my choice to by a sage 1 and I’ve been happy ever since
Yes, there is something about the Sage 1 that eludes all the statistical measurements. After all the comparisons and paper cutting tests are done it comes down to feel. The Sage 1 has many invariables that just cannot be measured or tested. Yeah it cost too much but today everything cost too much. After all the Internet debating the Sage 1 just goes beyond all the hype and feels right. And in today's world of hyper marketing the Sage 1 delivers with a real value that is rare today.
Love your videos. Keep em comin! What Spyderco would you recommend for EDC, 2-3'' BL,preferred compression lock, not frame lock and lightweight? Iv had the Paramilitary and Manix2 although awesome they are a bit too long. Thanks!
Why does everyone call it the David Boye Detent? It's the David Boye DENT. Because it's an indent that makes the lock harder to accidentally disengage. It's huge pet peeve of mine :p
I have seen pics of the Sage 5-very tempting. I saw a prototype version of the PM3 (or whatever they're going to call it) at SHOT 2016. It looks promising.
They both look awesome. I'm honestly not sure which one I would like better, PM3, or the Sage 5. I love the PM2, but it is slightly too big for my office job... even though I do carry it almost daily.
paramilitary 2 is more of a utility knife, it is larger than the sage and in my opinion more durable. I would argue though that the sage is way better looking. Both are great spydercos but also the paramilitary will probably hold value longer. Cant go wrong with either.

Fantastic.
amazing review. never had such a close look. thanks!!
I agree with you totally. The Sage 1 has a reassuring thwack sound when you open it and it is a thing of beauty.

Thanks for the feedback!
great discussion points Scout. it's fun when you connect with a blade like that.
Good feedback. Thanks.

Nice review of the Sage series. Thanks. Rock on.
I have this and absolutely love it. It's in my pocket everyday.
Has the snap. This knife is my absolute favorite of all time. Perfection
Great stuff Scout! Thanks for posting brother!
The Sage is what my knew love, Love the flat grind on these. It's hard to pick one. Great review Scout.
Thanks for the review! Moved to the top of my EDC want list. Also, got a kick out of the OCD with making sure they line up right when setting them all out.
great video as usual, really like that you put up the knife info. at the beginning. keep up the good work
You bet. Glad to help.
Thanks, my friend.
Just bought one and love it! Great review :)
Sweet. Congrats!
Finally got one an I love the hell out of it !!! I absolutely love the loud click when it opens ! I got one because I came across this video lol
I enjoyed this comparison and contrast video. Thank you.
Thanks, buddy.

A definite top 10 EDC folder choice.
ordered it yesterday and it's coming tomorrow. can't wait to try it out, especially since it's going to be my first spyderco knife.
i overpaid for it but hopefully it's still worth it. (paid $148 including tax and shipping)
Damn man! Glad you got the knife, but you can get them on ebay for right at $100. You will enjoy it though....great knife.

Very helpful as I am thinking about getting one of these.

Damn dude, the Sage 1 can cut! Think I'll go with the Sage 3 for my new knife. I just love the bolt action lock
Thanks, man.
Keep up the good work, Brother!
I've got the 1,2,and 3. They were my every day knives till I bought a Para. I still carry two of em in my pack. Just the right size for every day!
Wow, thanks!
Absolutely.
You bet. Stay tuned.
one of your best vids............such a great idea from spyderco.
I carry this almost everyday because of discreet clip and quality workmanship. Works, great with dress pants
It would be awesome if you can do a review of the Spyderco Chaparral !
That is my kind of knife. Simple, functional, and beautiful.
Great review Sir! Love the carbon fiber on that knife!
In my opinion this is the best looking spyderco i have seen
Love ur vids man. Love Spyderco. So freakin sharp. Keep it up bud.

I just love my Sage 1 too!
Dang, that sounds cool!
nice review brother, good job. keep it up
Great review. It's the David Boye dent, though, instead of detent.
Love your videos. Keep em comin! What Spyderco would you recommend for EDC, 2-3'' BL,preferred compression lock, not frame lock and lightweight? Iv had the Paramilitary and Manix2 although awesome they are a bit too long. Thanks!
The Sage 1 is my favourite EDC blade. The upcoming Sage 5 with the compression lock looks like a real winner for EDC.
Why does everyone call it the David Boye Detent? It's the David Boye DENT. Because it's an indent that makes the lock harder to accidentally disengage. It's huge pet peeve of mine :p
Amen.
I feel like my sage 2 make a sound like no other knife I own, but I don't own a sage 1, I've been tempted to purchase a sage 1 for quite some time now
What is the lockup like on the sage 2 after some use. Does the titanium stay strong?
Regards. Jordz
Mine has that click also! Such an awesome knife fot the price!
Me too!
Sometimes it's just magic...
I've been debating on whether to get the sage or paramilitary from spyderco: in your opinion what would make a better medium duty EDC knife?
For medium duty, that's a real toss-up. I'd go with whatever you can more easily get your hands on - which is probably the Sage.
all hail the paramilitary 2!!!!
Have you seen the Sage 5? Or what about the Paramilitary 3? They call it the Minuteman!
Mine came with a really weak ball detent. It can't be opened without wrist movement to help it. Is that common?
Thanks Great review.
I love the sage line great cutters just disappears in the pocket. My opinion the sage 4 is a tad too expensive.
3:54 - that's what she said! (Sorry, couldn't help myself :) Nice review my friend!
No! Shut up about how good these knives are! My wallet can only take so much!
Navy_blu77 guess it'll have to take the sages too huh?
Beginning to hate inflation. I can't find this anywhere for under $140. $150+ from a reputable dealer where you can be sure not to get a fake.
Safe queen?
I don't like the non flow-thru design on the Sage 3. It would be so much better if it was flow-thru.
They need a Sage model with a compression lock
Ok - I got a Sage 1. the Sage 3 has a wider handle than the Sage 1.
I have the Sage 1 and Sage 5 the other three are not available
I prefer the sage but the sage 1 is still a great knife
It's on the list...... Of knives my wife won't let me buy.
What's an affordable spyderco knife for everyday Carrie that can take seriouse punishment
The Spyderco Tenacious. Great value for around $40. The Native is also great and could take a little more punishment IMO
Sage 5 coming: Essentially the Sage 1 with a compression locking system.
Love my Sage 1. Just cant bring my self to carry it.
I also have extra coarse arm hair and I hate when "out of the box" knives won't shave it. Not a troll. I hate it.
struggling between Spyderco Sage and paramilitary 2, any advise?
paramilitary 2 is more of a utility knife, it is larger than the sage and in my opinion more durable. I would argue though that the sage is way better looking. Both are great spydercos but also the paramilitary will probably hold value longer. Cant go wrong with either.
thanks man! just got PM2 Camo Black blade version, can't wait to receive it...
Nice! Im sure you will be more than satisfied
Li Cai When in doubt, buy both!
Like it deep lol that's what she said haha nice vid. Love spyderco knives.
looks better than the manix..for sure....
Funny, I was thinking sage brush?
The first knife i got whas a Victorinox, It was very sharp, so I wanted to make it even more sharp... And I broke the edge :(
LOL!
Sag 2
I can make you a carbon fiber The Late Boy Scout vinyl decal....
Clamshell packages are the worst thing to be ever invented.
I like it deep when I can get it
Lol
would be better if her nails trimmed, boy scout
I'm an idiot
Say no to fake carbon fiber.
