    What is the difference between Chime Pro and a mesh network like eero?
    A Chime Pro is the simplest solution if you want to expand and improve coverage only to your Ring devices, directly from your Ring app. An alternative solution to improve household connectivity would be to install a mesh wifi device such as eero, which can amplify your internet connection to reduce weak wifi areas in your home, improving connectivity for all your smart devices.

    We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

    The difference is price and WIFI. You need a Ring Chime only if your old in house chime is broken, or you never had one. However, the Ring Chime may also solve a subtle power problem. If you have an older house it may have a small cheap 16VAC 10VA doorbell transformer, very common in "contractor kits". Your Ring Doorbell will not work well with that transformer, due to the added power needed by the new Ring Doorbell. Your Ring doorbell needs about 8 watts (8VA) in addition the original chime power, so the 10VA transformer is marginal and IMO should always be upgraded if you want reliable operation. You have two ways to solve that, either upgrade your transformer to 24VAC 40VA (Ring's recommended rating), or don't use the in house chime. By that I mean connect your doorbell directly to your transformer and not the chime, and don't use the little white "power adapter". This supplies all the available transformer power to the Ring and MAY work OK. Of course, now you need a Chime; either Ring Chime works well. You only need the Chime Pro if your WIFI strength is poor as measured by the Ring Health Check. Check it and save your money if your WIFI is strong. I'd suggest using 2.4GHz WIFI band if there are walls between Doorbell and router.

    the only thing i would like with the pro is the louder "amplified" doorbell - but sounds it will be best for me just to get 2 of the standard ones as i have mesh wifi and dont need nightlights - how loud (in db) is it? - so i can compare with my current doorbell - which is actually a bit quiet i have "resciever speakers" in hall, bedroom and living room to hear the door - eg so i know if i need 1 or 2 or 3 of the standard one and i assume i can hook 2 up in first place? as getting 2 standard where i live is same price as one pro!

    • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your internet is good, 2 of the standard chimes should be good. There is no dB rating on any of Rings products, even went to Ring.com and got on a technical chat, they could not even answer, if they even understood. I think with this it is a variable output you can turn up and down, and you can also change the melody. So the different melodies would hit different dB's. The Pro just in my experience does seem louder and clearer, but again with 2 spread out, would not really matter. You can hook as many as you want to the system, you can even get the security base station and connect it and add door and window sensors so when the doors open would ring a different note. You will just see multiple chimes on your app as you would cameras. Thanks for watching hope that helps a little.

    Thank you. Short and sweet! I was afraid I had gotten wrong Chime. We are still learning the tools. Can we move the plug in Chime to another room without having to do a set up?

    • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes once set up you can move it around freely, you just cannot get to far away from the router. Try to find the "sweet spot" in the middle if possible for best connection but as long as the room is in between you should be fine. You can also use multiple ones if needed. I have some customers put one on back porches for instance and one upstairs or in a bedroom. • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, as far as I know you can do unlimited chimes. Since we are in the Myrtle Beach area I have lots of customers that are out back in the yard, by the pool, cookout, whatever, so I often put a chime on the back porch area and one inside the home. If you do the chime Pro it will help the connectivity of the Ring devices. Alexa will integrate with Ring also, Ring is an Amazon.com company now. You just have to go into your Alexa app and enable the Skill. Alexa will actually answer the door for you now and give instructions for whomever is there. For instance the doorbell rings, Alexa will answer "Hello this is Alexa, how can I help you". If it's a delivery and they say "UPS", Alexa will ask if a signature is required and you can program in a response where to leave the package. I haven't had enough time to "play" with it yet to do a video on it, but soon as I figure it out I will upload something. Thanks for watching, please if you haven't already take a second to subscribe and click like on the video.

    • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most likely just a package change to save money. Just like every company now, even the Ring Video Doorbell Pro box is not much bigger than the button and they have taken out the extra covers and mounting you have to buy extra. The box for the chime had some padding in it, instruction manual, screws, etc.. Your box probably just the chime squeezed in, a page or 2 for a "manual" and maybe a couple screws.

    • @RagerJackOfAll

      Yes just turn off the "Motion Alerts" tab and leave the Ring Alerts on. Also leave on the "Motion Detection" or it will not work at all unless they push the button. These features are not on some models of the Ring so if you do not see those under the settings gear of your doorbell may not be able to change.

    When my ring doorbell button is pressed, it rings twice, it flashes blue and my chime pro rings twice. However, after that, while my ring doorbell is still flashing blue and if it rings again, my chime pro doesn't ring anymore. So, if we don't hear the alert on the chime pro the first time, it won't alert us no matter how many times someone rings the doorbelI. Is there anyway to change that in the settings, so it could alert us everytime the doorbell button is pressed?

    • @RagerJackOfAll

    What about just any wifi extension? Would it be able to connect to the ring device (camera) or I would have to buy the ring chime pro to make it work? If that made any sense.

    • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on your Ring model and modem. Some new services are pushing 5ghz signal and not allowing the 2.4 to connect to your devices without having to change settings. So if you have a 2.4ghz Ring Doorbell or camera and and a newer Router like Plume, or some Eeros, you have to go in and "Disable" the 5ghz network temporarily to get it to connect. Newer models are 2.4ghz and 5ghz compatible so any router should work. The Ring Chime Pro is more of a Mesh for your Ring devices regardless of 2.4 or 5. Just makes it a little simpler if you do not have a lot of experience with wireless devices. Thanks for watching.

    • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  ปีที่แล้ว

      You need a Ring doorbell for the chime to work. It is just an addition to the doorbell. If you are trying to install a Ring Doorbell, then you need a doorbell if you buy a powered doorbell, but they also make battery powered ones that you do not need to wire and you just sync it with the chime module. Hope that helps.

    Can the Chime Pro stay connected to the internet for more than a week at a time? I'll buy it if it can because the POS regular Ring Chime won't! Every time I turn around it's flashing blue and it' s a pain in the ass to put back online!

    • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  ปีที่แล้ว

      Should stay online unless the router goes offline. The Chime Pro only extends the range of Ring devices, and it does "network", so depending on how far away your camera is from the router, you want to place the Chime Pro in the middle. If it is a very long way from the router you can use multiple ones.

    • @joeking433

      @@RagerJackOfAll The problem is our power and/or internet goes out quite often and it knocks out the chime where I have to manually reconnect it which is a PITA. So any camera with a chime that reconnects is what I"m looking for. I'd also like one that has the convex view so you can see packages anywhere on the porch. Ring totally sucks, IMO. @@joeking433 I'm not sure if the Pro is better for that or not. We live in a pretty stable internet environment around here, most is underground fiber so maybe 2 or 3 times a year we loose it. No, the only major difference in the pro is that it extends the range of your cameras and other ring devices, comes in real handy when your router is on one side of the house and a camera is on the other with a weak signal. It does not extend your wifi, just the Ring network.
