Musica Mathematica II: Ode d'amore by Wayne I. L. Davies

By setting Shakespeare’s Sonnet 128 to music, this work reflects on the all-consuming love, rage and frustration experienced by children that accompany the untimely loss of a mother. This composition utilises binary numbers to explore both pitch and rhythm, thus uniting music and mathematics in space and time. The piece was submitted as part of a call for scores for the “Fifteen-Minutes-Of-Fame" project led by Dr. Andrew White.
