Retired 19 years ago. I always liked the "Comfort Cabs" over the noisy SD38's. Also slept in a lot of hot cabooses before we got rooms. Back in the old days.
He seems to have a great personality and a good sense of humour. Hey Mark enjoy your retirement you’re definitely earned it from keeping America rolling.
Those were some close calls. Hose always almost make you dirty r britches. lol. I had a few of those over the years when I was running. I enjoyed the video Mike. Thanks 👍👍👍❤️
Those kids at the beginning cut it so close. Loved seeing the old analog display panel. Great video and a great view from inside the cab at some of what engineers have to deal with.
Happy Holidays Mike. As others have already mentioned, I appreciate you taking the time to record and post your cab videos. Rail enthusiasts need to see a professional locomotive engineer at work and the skills involved in day to day railroad operations. You have a great personality and the perfect person to make these videos available.
4:15 CSXT #7676 led CSX Train Q271 up the NYS&W in NJ/NY sometime in the summer of 2002 after the breakup of Conrail and while the River Subdivision was still "figuring out" the best routing of trains at that time. Q-271 is a low priority empty autorack train. Cool how this unit gets around.
I always hated going through all those little towns with 25 crossings that went nowhere. And with an impatient female driver that couldn’t wait on the train. Lol!
My dad started Penn Central in 73 rail gang,, went to Conrail, then to CSX, became a conductor then Engineer, retired in 2007, passed away in 2009 from cancer. I watch these to see what he did. He use to hate missing my birthday, or baseball games or football games, I remember a few times he'd come home in the middle of the night and watch me sleep but didn't wake me up and I would act like I was asleep. Now I would give anything to sit up and tell him I loved him. He wrote me a letter when he passed saying he would hate when the phone would ring, knowing it was a crew caller calling because he knew he wouldn't see me. I knew he busted his ass so I would get to live a great childhood. Also cool fact, his grand father, my great grand father was a Gandy Dancer.
EARTH ANGEL THIS definitely was. 👍 GREAT surprise ride !!!! THANKS for taking me along!😇😍😳🎊💕 YOU’VE Got a fan club out there!!👯♂️I finally rang “the” BELL,🛎 now it won’t be such a surprise!🎈.GREAT engineer, great 🎵 music, and 👍 great ride!!!🚂🎟.Thank You!👍💕😍😀
I am a huge railroad train fanatic! I mean, really, an engineer named Mike is so freaking awesome at what he does on the tracks! Best personality, awesome bells and horns, looking out for another object or fools playing on or around the track site. I liked the way he just continued to blow the train horn at those trespassing the rails for no reason! However, I do like the music that was playing. I could not tell what the name of the song was playing on your mission. However, it was just a little too loud. I apologize for the unexpected inconvenience. But, all I wanna do is give a shout out to Mike and his crew of CSX and all shout outs go to CSX Transportation! [CSXT] is my favorite railroad industry in the history of the United States! Oh, yeah and I almost forgot. Here is the game plan for crossing a railroad crossing safely: 1. Stop. You must come to a full stop. pedestrians must come to a full stop behind the railroad crossing signal. 2. Look. Look both ways 2 times when crossing the tracks. Almost like looking both ways when crossing the street. 3. Listen. Listen for a train horn or a train bell. Use your ears and your eyes as a listening method when crossing the railroad tracks. 4. Live. Proceed safely across the tracks and go on about the rest of your day.
Man you got the life, saw your opening pic, I’m a firefighter in New York City and I must say I have a job that young kids dream of but so do you, you got the only gig I’d consider leaving mine for!

I just spent more than 60 minutes watching your videos and wanted to say thanks. I realize buying one of your videos might say thanks in a better way but for now, thanks! Your videos focus on the trains, the railroads and lots of information but unlike some videos your videos aren't just about you with train footage in the rear. Peace!
HI MIKE! I JUST FOUND YOUR VIDEO, ENJOYED! I SEE YOU MUST HAVE STEPPED UP FROM STEERING WHEEL WRESTLER TO HOGGER! CONGRATS! IVE DONE BOTH MYSELF! IN THE PAST HAVE WORKED AS AN ROAD FOREMAN AND TAUGHT SEVERAL HOGGERS THEIR TRADE! IVE FOUND THAT TRUCKERS AND FARMERS AND HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATORS MAKE THE BEST HOGGERS, BY FAR! I ALSO HAD AN AIRLINE PILOT WHO QUALIFIED WELL, AND HE TOLD ME THAT LEARNING TO BE A HOGGER WAS MORE DIFFICULT THAN LEARNING TO FLY! KEEP HER ON THE RAILS, CHEERS!!👍👍
My uncle was a engineer for a old short line that got bought out I live near a csx line and railfan all the time!! When I become a engineer I don’t care if railfan or not all you’ll hear from me besides crossing and starting to move is “shave and a haircut Two Bits!!”
some people are so dumb, but you are awsome mike, i have loved trains since i was born, also i know all the different types of horns and CSX is one of my favorite companies, also, i post railfanning videos
I live in Acworth and love this video brother it is awesome. I must confess I have walked the tracks to Emerson across the lake. People think is it dangerous but it is not. Trains do not sneak up on anyone. I get out of the way well ahead of time. Never would I try to run across in front of a train like the kids did. That is stupid.
Thanks again for another awesome assistant engineer ride along video. Have a question Mr. Barnett. Where could I find a CSX reflective safety vest to add to my railroad room I'm creating in our new home?
That last clip looked like Kennesaw. "I know you're in a train but can't you see we're having a block party here? Jeez!" I had something similar happen to me like that in Orlando FL. Cops parked their cars across the tracks because they were closing the railroad off to train use for the parade. Luckily they were able to clear off the crossing just as we came through because it was about to get messy.
I work for a switch crew in west central ohio. Our parent company is Genesee and Wyoming. I didn't know cameras were allowed. We switch between NS and CSX and it is a pain in the ass to get CSX to cooperate with us. They either deliver the cars on the wrong tracks, or fail to leave any switching space for us. Rarely they do anything we ask them!
Engineer Mike Barnett retired, right? What a legend. Being watching him on youtube since long ago. Awesome video footage sir... regards, from South Africa.
I really enjoy your videos man makes me jealous man I’m thinking of getting into doing that for a career actually so your vids make me smile man, what a cool career to retire from man you still young!
