I was driving in the snow for the first time yesterday and I was so worried about the shuddering when my ABS engaged. Thank you for another great video.
Hi Reilly Owens - Thank you for your comment. And you are most welcome. Remind me again where you are in the world that you have snow? If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
Hi Reilly Owens - thanks for that information. Yes, the farther you get away from the main roads, the more snow there is going to be. All the best with the winter driving. Cheers Rick
We had the first snow of the year and my first year ever driving in it. Thank you so much for this video- I almost took my car into the shop for doing something it's supposed to do. 🤣
Hi Kelly B. - We're happy to hear we could help out. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
Man thank you so much, excelent video, I'm new to icy weather so yesterday I got really worried about my brakes doing this same exact sound and feedback on my pedal and I was scared shitless haha
Hi Jorge Castañeda - And you are most welcome. We're happy to hear we could help out. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
My Family had a 2008 Spanish Minivan Built in 2008 it had the ABS System I Learned to Drive In It. Recently my Family has bought a 2019 Stationwagon that's fitted with ABS too.
It’s the weirdest feeling I’ve ever felt. First time the car did it’s ABS system on me why’ll driving. I was like what was that the brake pedal felt so weird and there was a pump sound under the hood. It did it’s job I had control why’ll stopping so it’s good to have just a weird feeling the first time experiencing it.
Hi supermiles - that is awesome news. And that is a a fantastic achievement. I hope that you are celebrating tonight!! Thank you so much for letting us know. Did you end up hiring a driving instructor? All the best. And if there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Cheers Rick
Smart Drive Test Hi again Rick! Yup, i did enrol in driving school, 15 hours room lessons and 6 hours on the road (10 hours completion) but i already feel the confidence 😋 i can make it even i still have 4 more hours left on my road lessons. I think its my lucky day! I got a 20 score for entering too slow in a freeflow and thats it! Everything is good .. one time parallel parking for me! Thank you thank you Rick that i found your channel because when I'm not practicing,i keep watching your vids instead! God speed teacher Rick!
If your driving instructor is "on the ball" so to speak, s/he will tailor your driving lessons to teaching you how to drive, and not make you do all that extraneous stuff required for a road test. All the best my friend - Godspeed!
Smart Drive Test By the way, i have a super strict husband holding a class 1 licence( trailer truck driver) . Whenever he teaches me behind the wheel, you have to be an A+ learner. Well it works 😁. Whenever my husband away, my instructor take over hahahahaha! 2 in 1
Thanks for this wonderful video . I bought a new Hyndai Elantra last week and was worrying after hearing the shuddering noise while applying break in snow .Wondering whether it is because of any issues with breaking system . Now it is clear :-)
Hi John Wesley - And you are most welcome. We're happy to hear we could help out. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
It should be required by law to know how to use ABS brakes… sadly I’m just now learning how to use it thanks to you. This would have been very helpful when my car was sliding/losing traction coming home from Nevada. Thank you!
Hi Jayantha Raj - Thank you for your comment. And you are most welcome. We're happy to hear we could help out. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
I’ve just experienced this on ice and only lets me push the break to about half point the. Feels stiff I ended up over the line at the junction seemed dangerous
Hi Andy Gibson - the first couple of times activating the ABS can be a bit of a weird experience. Especially when it happen on ice and snow. We're happy to hear that you're okay my friend. All the best, Cheers Rick
YES! ABS should never be put on a vehicle!!! I was almost in 3 accidents because of them. Having learned to drive in wintry weather, I know how far it will take me to stop. When I applied the brakes ABS caused me to slide right into the intersection. Even the video said it will not stop you in a shorter distance. They are DANGEROUS.
I just got my first car with ABS and have two questions: 1) if I’m in dry driving conditions and roads are clear of rain, snow do I pump the brakes to stop as I did on my older car it do I ling-press until I’m stopped? 2) You said I can disengage a BS by pumping the brakes. Is the only way to activate them again to turn off the vehicle, then turn it on again?
Hi KarenInCalif - Thank you for your question. You can't turn off the ABS - these will always work. Any time you're in a hard braking situation, simply hold the brake pedal as hard as you can and steer in the direction you want the vehicle to go. I might suggest you go out to somewhere that doesn't have any traffic, and see if you can get these to engage. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
Hey guys, my car has abs. Is it normal for the break pedal to sort of feel loose and kind of push up to my feet when the abs is enabled? It feels like it’s harder to press down on the pedal.
That's all totally normal my friend. Some times, you have to use both hands on the steering wheel to push the brake pedal hard enough to get the ABS to engage. All the best, Cheers Rick
OMG , today that happened to me, I freaked out and went right away to a friend who is a mechanic, he laughed at me .I can not stop laughing haha great channel
Hi Salim Habib - Thank you for your comment. And did you think you were launching the space shuttle when it happened? ;0) LOL If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
Hi El O - Thank you for your comment. I suspect there are a number of smart drivers that would wonder the same my friend! ;o) If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
No Rick, It is rare that we receive snow in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, but it does happen every once in a while. When we have ice on our roads it is like the worst nightmare, since people here are not accustomed to driving in those conditions and our cities do not have the proper equipment in place to sand/salt all our roads and make it safer to drive on. Take care, Paul
Hi Paul - yes, I lived in Victoria, BC and they get one annual snowfall a year - It sounds a lot like Dallas. I was once in South Carolina when they got snow, and the state literally shut down! Stay well my friend, and if there is anything else we can help with, drop us a line. All the best, Cheers Rick
Whenever I drive on the busier road in my town with lots of stoplights and whenever I stop at a stoplight slower the brakes pulsate. They pulsate every time I use the brake. Is that normal?
Hi Mary Moore - Thank you for your comment. And no, that's not normal. What kind of vehicle are you driving? I would suggest googling that issue and see if it is a common problem with that make and model. Be sure to let us know what you find. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
Hi Rick ! The problem with my Suzuki Celerio is; the ABS is activating too early. It didn’t use to be like this before. Can you please help me diagnose the problem ? 👀
Hi Doctor Zia - Thank you for your comment and request. The only thing that I could potentially think would be wrong is that the CPU (Central Processing Unit) is faulty and detecting wheel spin when there isn't wheel spin. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
Hi Cars and tech - I'll have to go down the GM dealer and test drive one of those vehicles. Does the ABS activate only during hard braking or at other times? Thanks for the your comment, Cheers Rick
Smart Drive Test well mines a 2000 so that could be the reason lol. But no you don't have to brake very hard to feel the pedal kicking back a bit, it's weird.
LOL - yes...that doesn't sound quite right! I would find that a bit disconcerting. Getting the ABS to activate is a lesson I teach to new drivers and have done it on a number of different vehicles. On all of them, you have to push hard and hold to get the ABS to activate. Interesting - Thanks Cheers Rick
I am surprised that this sound is of ABS braking system ! Because when I was a new rider, I braked very hard in suddenly at night when I found no road in front of me -> I heard this noise of blender machine. I though my brake pads are damaged. Now I realized it was ABS activated
I had ABS happen to me when trying to brake for a red light it's so stupid how the road is 60mph with a light I was going right at 60 and the light went from green to yellow then RED
Hi Big$MoneyBoss - thank you for your comment. Yes, that some times happens that traffic lights seem to go from "green-to-red". You got stopped OK obviously because you're here to tell the story, which is good. Had you experienced ABS prior to that incident? Thanks Cheers Rick
Hi OthmanEmpire - Thank you for your comment. And you are most welcome. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
I was looking at old notes from driving class and it says that ABS is good for dry pavement, but for gravel, ice, etc. to use threshold braking. What do you think?
Hi Bobo411 - Thank you for your comment and asking this question in the live stream tonight. Threshold braking doesn't work because most of the vehicle is this day and age are going to be equipped with ABS brakes. Threshold braking is for standard brakes, and those have gone the way of the DO DO bird. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

I actually hate my car because the brakes are crazy and hump my tires instead of stop my car.. I let go of the breaks and just keep going, I'd like to get them off!! I'm old school and want to slide to a stop, and steer myself out of a skid 💁taking a taxi to work and back until spring I guess .. It's winter here in Canada and my car sucks.
Nice demo but you have to be able to trust the anti lock brake system to actually stop your vehicle when you need your vehicle to stop. Anti lock brakes. No Thanks! I'm old school and I'm going to get my old 71 Chevy C- 10 up and running and back on the road driving her I could always trust her to stop when I wanted her to.

i just got into accident due to this fuckin ABS, i was driving in the icy condition under 10 km , i press on the brake and it triggered ABS and car doesnt fuckin stop, it just keep moving, i thought i was pressing the the gas pedal but i am not, and i hit the car in front, if ABS did not activate i will be able to stop the car, seemed ABS doesnt do shit
