Couldn't love this band more. If you're ever in a documentary mood, Finding Joseph I is a very informative and touching film about the life of lead singer HR, and a good chronicle of the band as well
Lil Jon was a skater as a teenager and was a huge Bad Brains fan and they influenced Crunk. He even helped to grt the band back to together to record a song on his Crunk Juice album.
After being “Banned in DC” they moved to New York and a whole genre of bands emulating them ignited the New York Hardcore scene. This band was The Beatles for that 90s boom.
Like a lot of punks, I myself am massively into reggae and ska, as the lyrics and intent behind a lot of the songs have the same message of opposing the Babylon and being your own person. Punk is just said with anger and love, whereas reggae is said with peace and love. It's beautiful contrast with a similar base point
boom .. BOP BOP The drums in the intro hit so hard... and it's a reference to another one of their songs, Voyage Into Infinity which you should check out And check out the punk band 'Death' not to be confused with the death metal band Death. Black punk rockers in the 70's, 'Politicians In My Eyes' is my favorite song from them
3 friends in the 3 early 80s went to a Bad Brains one night. After the dhow the decided to form a Punk band with a similar name. They called themselves the Beastie Boys.
Dude, check out A Band Called Death....maybe the FIRST true American punk band(The Stooges) but also unique is that they are 3 African American siblings making music so different than what was going on at Motown
They considered themselves to be Rastas but they are not Jamaican. They got into reggae after seeing a Bob Marley show at MSG. The did get a little strange and started speaking with a Jamaican accent for a bit.
Godfathers of HARDCORE. In the modern sense, in that they knew how to play and actually brought breakdowns into punk. But this track is like 7 years too late. THis is 1986 I think. They popped in 1979.
You might be interested in researching the early British punk scene because it was heavily influenced by Reggae. The poor punk kids hung out with the poor black kids. The poor punk kids learned about Reggae and Ska from them. There are a ton of great documentaries out there. The BBC Punk Britannia series is a good place to start. There's also a separate thread where the 50'a American Rock N Roll musicians like Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley made a lot of money in England playing to British teenagers. Here is a video about Don Letts who DJ'ed the early punk gigs and fed the audience a steady diet of Jamaican music. th-cam.com/video/RtSK9o-zMzw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Gs91h7WUqFsNqiWk
Hardcore and punk rock has a pretty strong connection in the black community in a lot of different ways there’s a lot of great new bands that have real intense political messages with all black members a really great one is Zulu
Hardcore and punk rock has a pretty strong connection in the black community in a lot of different ways there’s a lot of great new bands that have real intense political messages with all black members a really great one is Zulu. So they are American not Jamaican. One of their mothers was born in Jamaica but otherwise, the only connection is that they are Rastafarian.
Check out Death from Detroit. 3 black brothers who would be spoken of today the way Bad Brains are if their name hadn't caused their first album to not get released.
They aren't from Jamaica. You really should check out the history of Bad Brains and punk rock in general with an objective view. It's extremely interesting.
My dude, Blues and Rock n roll was invented by Black folks. BTW when you listen to the structure of Punk songs it's basically 50s Rock/Rockabilly but more aggressive and distorted .

Old-school punk rock!!!!
Seen Bad Brains in DC at 9:30 Club with Minor Threat and Fugazi all the time. Love those days...☘️🇺🇸
Minor Threat!!! Hell yeah.
One of the best punk bands ever!
Congrats on 100K. Sorry I was late.
All good
Please look up the Band “Death” black band from Detroit. Punk 3 years before the Sex Pistols “created” the genre. Netflix made a documentary.
I was blessed with seeing bad brains live. Forever in my heart of a show ❤️ not only punk but they created the mix of hardcore/reggae/dub fusion.
Before there was Bad Brains (who l love), there was Pure Hell (all black punk band from Philly) who toured with the Sex Pistols.
They also inspired the Beastie Boys. They were such big fans they chose their name to have the same initials as them, “BB”.
Lil Jon was a skater as a teenager and was a huge Bad Brains fan and they influenced Crunk. He even helped to grt the band back to together to record a song on his Crunk Juice album.

Love Bad Brains. I'm old enough to have bought these albums when they came out in high school. Completed my punk phase to this day.

Song - Sacred Love. HR recorded over the phone while in prison.

Did they play with the Butthole Surfers ever
Punk rock is musical expression in its rawest form, let it all out!!
Bad Brains is my favorite band of all time. HR remains a huge inspiration.
HR it was a prophet in my opinion much of the things that he hadden's lyrics have come true today.
They were the Godfathers of hardcore.
i against i album is special. It’s part of my aorta .
They considered themselves to be Rastas but they are not Jamaican. They got into reggae after seeing a Bob Marley show at MSG. The did get a little strange and started speaking with a Jamaican accent for a bit.
H.R. and Earl Hudson are born to Jamaican mother and American father didn't they?
You gotta listen to a reggae track from them! - Youth are Getting Restless
Love the pUnk rOcK! Brother man pUnk ROcK was for the people! Black, White,Asian, Latino and my native American brothers as well.

Try : Living color (name of the band )
Bad BRAINS WERE all Rastafarians. But they are from D.C., not Jamaica. They were part of the hardcore scene there from the late 70s to late 80s.

My generation didn’t see color the same way kids today do. Of course there will always be jackass racists, but we were raised different
Noise
Bad Brains rules….remember Rock N Roll was invented by a gay black man from Atlanta Georgia.
