    These guys should be in the Rock n Roll hall of fame period. Their influence goes so far. From Metallica too Nirvana. They changed the punk sound and made it much faster and aggressive. They gave it that "Hardcore" sound. My first punk show was the Bad Brains in 1981 in San Francisco.

      So many bands credit Bad Brains. Beastie Boys entire name is homage to Bad Brains. Black Flags main inspiration is Bad Brains. Just the fact that I see high school kids wearing their shirts they should at least be more widely known.

    You're a lucky young man, finding out about Bad Brains in this day and age. The scope and depth of their impact upon hardcore and beyond probably can't be overstated. Very few people would ever "like" them, but everyone should KNOW about them.

    Great reaction man, and lemme point out that Bad Brains also plays reggae, like traditional reggae, not two-tone ska. They're one of the originators of the hardcore punk sound- see also Black Flag, Minor Threat, Fugazi, Circle Jerks

    The Bad Brains are probably a top 5 band for me. They are the original hardcore punks, The album you have as the thumbnail o your background "Roir Cassette" is possibly the most perfect hardcore punk record of all time while HR (Human Rights) the singer of this group is as eccentric and interesting as they come. All of them are mazing musicians and did so much to break barriers and usher in other hardcore bands that were influenced by them (mainly in the DC Punk/hardcore scene Minor Threat, SOA etc etc). Oh and they play reggae too :)
    I can talk about the Bad Brains for hours lol

    They were a reggae band that ran out of
    Places to play in DC, so they started playing punk to get gigs. If I remember correctly they still call themselves a reggae band. DC punk was post English punk. Very cool bands came out of that town

    • @joelofaro5719
      @joelofaro5719 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They were, originally, a "Jazz- Fusion" band, named "Mind Power." That was in 1978, which is also the year that they discovered Punk. After discovering Punk, they changed their name to "Bad Brains," after the Ramones song, "Bad Brain," and began playing, what came to be known as "Hardcore" or "Hardcore Punk." They were one of the pioneers, of this new style of Punk. They also added: Jazz, Jazz-Fusion, Funk and some Caribbean influences (Rock-Steady? Ska?), and later, even a little Heavy Metal, into the mix. The frontman, Paul "H.R." Hudson,
      and the drummer, Earl Hudson, are brothers. Their father was an American, in one of the branches of the military, so they moved around a lot. Their mother was from Jamaica, and they lived there, for a short period of time. They finally ended up in: Suitland-Silver Hill, Maryland (just outside of Washington D.C.). They went to a Bob Marley concert, when he came to D.C. in, I believe, 1980, and then decided to become Rastafarians. That is when they also began adding Reggae songs, to their repertoire. They are legends in the Punk Rock community, and they influenced both directly, and indirectly, numerous bands, such as: Minor Threat, Living Colour, Fishbone, 24-7 Spyz, Skunk Anansie, and many, many more!

    TH-cam Badbrains CBGB's Live 1979. Then watch the same 1982. You will witness the birth of Hardcore Punk. Yes, another genre of music was created by African Americans which doesn't earn the respect it deserves. Respect! In the crowd you might see a young Henry Rollins (Black Flag, Rollins Band), Ian McKaye (Minor Threat, Fugazi), and Joey Ramone...(Ramones). They all got kicked in the ass by the Bad Brains and became legends themselves. Badbrains is one of the most underrated bands EVER for their influence on music today.

Though their albums are amazing, their live shows were nothing to be fucked with. They were simply the best. One thing to add, I was thinking about your comment on the low end. You’re correct and this was especially true of punk. Low end wasn’t really a thing back then and if I remember correctly this album was put together with almost no money. As a teen in that era and completely out of my element in small town Indiana our biggest complaint when we discovered punk was sound quality.. punk sound mixes sucked.. we wished for higher quality recordings. There’s been a return to that sound in the past 5 years, they call it LO-FI

    Sorry BUT THIS to me personally is some ST8 BUL MANURE lol.
    LMAO ya, just not my 'Type' of Genre
    Just never got into the Whole Punk scene.
    Now the Lyrics on the other hand are to me, something Worthy to Heed.
    Probably 1 of the 1st songs that you've reacted to that I give a thumbs down to lol .
    To chaotic, lacks any real melody, just ST8 sucks..
    With all that being stated, my opinion is just that an opinion and we ALL KNOW EVERYBODY'S Got 1...
    J. I wouldn't feel bad if you discarded this lol..
    Peaceout!!
    Love ALL Y'all!!

      They are deff not for everyone, but you gotta admit the playing ability of the members is good. I don't like everything but I try to find something in each peace of music. Maybe the way it triggers ur dislike is a good thing as it helps define what you will gravitate to in the future. Give a few of their other songs, maybe the Reggae stuff? They are LEGEND in the music industry so SURELY all those bands you do like can't be wrong. :}

      @@killurbluffkillurbluff5570 it's good you're open to more. Don't know if you're more rock, metal, reggae or rap, but ea. of their albums showcases stylistic difference. Banned in DC (the song) has some great work, tempo & style changes as well...the album Quickness showed more reggae and metal...but most of all I'd say just enjoy the frenetic energy and fun they had .
