8.15.24 i just got a bunch of cuttings from different Mother plants and they all have long tendrils. i wasn't sure what to do with them so i started searching and here you are telling me everything i need to know. thank you ✌🏾
The subtitles made me laugh so hard - and your other video gave me the courage to chop up one of my oldest hoya plants. Thanks for your thoroughness and you humor!
I'm glad you clarified, but you know what you are doing, we should trust you do too. I learned why to cut and why not to cut, so you were/are a great teacher. I also love the updates and flower blooms, in what you have done in previous videos. So, thank you ! 😁👍
Absolutely LOVE that you had to run out here so fast to clarify about your plant babies🌱one of my favorite videos to have released so far because of it😂
I think its really not an issue to do this in Southeast Asian countries where hoyas are originally from. Like here in the Philippines, the conditions are perfect for them to just keep on growing so pruning them can be helpful. Awesome vids Sean, keep 'em coming. I hope to be able to visit Jakarta again soon especially now that more I'm into plants now due to the pandemic, and I see a lot of rare, exotic plants in the trade here came from Indonesia, so it would be interesting to see them at their origin.
I get so pumped up when your new video pops up, keeping those runners as I propagate some of my hoyas. Like you, I love to see my hoyas bushier. Thank you 🥰 Keeping doing what your doing you’re AWESOME!
Thank you for clarifying info on the tendrils. 😃 I guess we get stuck in our heads, “ that’s where new leaves an babies come from” an don’t think beyond that. 😃💚
This is really helpful with your clarification on when and why you want to get the trellis. Mine are getting so leggy. Thanks for your awesome videos Sean!
LOL I probably was one of those who screamed "nooooo" 🤣✌🏼 but who cares? It's your plant. Your choice. And you got A LOT OF THEM and they look great nonetheless! Stay awesome, bruh!👌🏼
I like my hoya hanging so they drape🤗. Yes so true the longer the tendrils more chances of getting peduncles. Unless you got a matured cuttings, it could flower sooner😁. Another great video👍
Thank you so much❣ I got a Hoya for a present a little while ago and I was getting a little worried that I have not yet seen it grow any leaves. Only reason I wasn't panicking was because the tendril tip is still greenish color and seemed to be growing😅.
We live in an age where people jump too fast on others unfortunately. I wasn't one of them, I didn't even notice LOL BUT for educational purposes, this was a helpful video!!!
Dont let anyone (haters or whatever ...) spoil your vision / your happiness / purpose & passion for the content you are putting out. We may or may not please everyone ... keep shining smiling and doing these videos! M waiting for the epic titantic loooooong (star wars / endgame esp) ;P take good care! rest up. I really enjoy your videos on hoya. I dont know much abt them, just got my 1st hoya kerrii as a hanging pot in kitchen so m learning / loving this process!
Very nice video! Would you know if it is possible to literally plant of the tendril in soil, while it is still attached to its plant? Have you ever tried anything similar? Thanks =)
In 3.17 you said youbrooted from a leaf. Did I hear that right? So if you prop a leaf it will make a plant..eventually? My leaves root but nothing grows
My hoya likes to really feel around. Every few hours I see the tendril in a completely new place. Somehow it managed to reach up with one of it's two runners over a foot straight up and when it touched the pothos pot it decided that was what it wanted to violate. It's in a 4 inch pot with two runners both over a foot, one nearly two feet. hopefully it decides to bloom
I know they like to wrap around but, even tho it just touched the side of the pot it stopped waving all over and has been steadily climbing up, soon it will latch onto the pothos and becomes one.@@onlyplants
Could be due to root loss from over or under watering. When its lost its roots it cannot supply water and nutrients to the tendrils. Usually overwatering is the culprit as hoyas really hate water
Hello again, you we're right,I took the plant out off the pot again and I did find mealy bugs,so wash it very well then slack it in neam oil and dish soap.i hope this will help the poor plant.
I love your background! Looks so good! Are all hoya flower has the same look? We had one a long time ago and i never knew what it was. Now i have none i accidentally killed it :(
@@onlyplants bro aku punya alocasia cuprea pas beli ok. Then i gave a bit soil and i think my staffs watery it too much, then it become droppy kaya letoy. How is the solution ya??
I relate to how you said your dad banned you from putting plants anywhere around the house 😭 my mom also banned me to put plants inside the house so the only place that i have plants is our small garden and my room..
I already cut mines because I saw you cut yours off... 😖 JK! 😂 Thanks for explaining more about why to cut or not to cut. I am one of those who would cute everything off. 😅
Where do you cut all the runners? I don't want to just snip them just anywhere, I want to know exactly where so the plant will thicken up. I'll keep a few runners but I don't want a plant with all these long runners hanging there. To me, it's not an attractive plant with all these single long runners hanging down. Do you cut them close to the pot? If you have this 20-inch runner hanging there, do you cut it in half at 10 inches? I want a thick plant at the top of the pot some random different length running hanging down. I want you to take hold of one of the runners and explain what you're doing. We'll cut this one closer to the pot because.....and then explain why you did it that way. Grab another one and maybe say that we'll cut it here, where it's just hanging even with the bottom of the pot because.........and then explain why and what is going to happen where you cut it.
Cut it right above an established leaf. The node where the last leaf is should produce vines, and anything below that too. You can also propagate for a bushy look. Prune hard leaving only 3-4 sets of leaves from the base of the pot and do single node cuttings
Hi Sean, I have a hoya kerrii with one long tendril and yes, I knocked baby leaves off of it, thinking ‘Oops, now I will have a long tendril with just one leaf. BUT.... to my surprise, on the exact two places I knocked leaves off two new sets of leaves are growing with new tendrils forming in between. It’s sitting under a grow light since last month, I’m in Amsterdam and thought it would go in hibernation since temperatures dropped. (a picture is on my insta capricorn_tropic)
Hello, yes a new vine can form from any nodes! Including one that you knocked off the baby leaf from. However if you cut this node off, that same vine would have grown from a lower node instead, which... is a look I prefer. But it does set the plant back a bit in age when I cut it! So I dont recommend it for all cases...
8.15.24 i just got a bunch of cuttings from different Mother plants and they all have long tendrils. i wasn't sure what to do with them so i started searching and here you are telling me everything i need to know. thank you ✌🏾
You can propagate them bare nodes too! I just found out
The subtitles made me laugh so hard - and your other video gave me the courage to chop up one of my oldest hoya plants. Thanks for your thoroughness and you humor!
Thank youu I hope you have success with your cuttings. Remember to give your cuttings good light

Hahaa I didnt want you guys rushing to cut up your hoya tendrils!
This PSA was really quite helpful by clarifying the pros and cons. I appreciate it! And you.
This topic was so close to my heart that I knew I had to make it. Glad it was helpful!
Lol! I was one of those who screamed. Sorry about that. You do you and whatever keeps you sane. Thanks for all the great videos!
Haha don’t be sorry. I love honesty! And its so cool that people care about others plants! It shows passion and compassion.

Thank you for clarifying info on the tendrils. 😃 I guess we get stuck in our heads, “ that’s where new leaves an babies come from” an don’t think beyond that. 😃💚
Totally fair to chop what's too long for you! Esp if you're interested in the foliage more than the flowers
Thank you 🙏🏽😌
This is really helpful with your clarification on when and why you want to get the trellis. Mine are getting so leggy. Thanks for your awesome videos Sean!
Try a trellis too, its a good look for leggy hoyas 😌

Can you tell me what you feed your hoyas for growth? Thank you!
Slow release fertilizers (osmocote)
Sprayed onto leaves and media (growmore)
I mix in orchid fertilizer sometimes into the spray

Yes I was one of the screamers! This clarification helps me understand your decision. I always like to learn new things about plants. 🌱👍
Those are some beautiful screams... of love 💚
Soo many Hoya's in you collection! Glad you clarify to many but, at the end of the day your plant & choice 💚
Thank you so much Misha 😌

Awwww good info😊👍🏼You are so sweet to clarify this even though I didn’t think anything of it from the last video.❤️
Thanks for the video, lovely plants. Can the cut tendrill be put in spagnum moss to propagate, no one seems to of done that.
Better to do in water than in moss 😀 but yes its possible while its low chance

Very nice video! Would you know if it is possible to literally plant of the tendril in soil, while it is still attached to its plant? Have you ever tried anything similar? Thanks =)
Yes you can! It will root into the soil. But dont overwater it
In 3.17 you said youbrooted from a leaf. Did I hear that right? So if you prop a leaf it will make a plant..eventually? My leaves root but nothing grows
You will need a part of the main stem too, not just the petiole or the leaf. If you have just the leaf it will root but never shoot.
My hoya likes to really feel around. Every few hours I see the tendril in a completely new place.

Loll I like your choice of word - violate.
They actually lasso their new tendrils! Most vining plants do that.
I know they like to wrap around but, even tho it just touched the side of the pot it stopped waving all over and has been steadily climbing up, soon it will latch onto the pothos and becomes one.@@onlyplants
That is funny that you had to clarify yourself. I personally don't like the look of empty tendrils.
WHY do the vines sometimes dry up? I notice my Australis is the worst for this, but Im new to Hoya and Im trying to understand
Could be due to root loss from over or under watering. When its lost its roots it cannot supply water and nutrients to the tendrils. Usually overwatering is the culprit as hoyas really hate water
I died at the '69ing" remark on the hoya growth breakdown hahahhahahaha you made my day, Sean! Hahahahahaha
Haha couldnt find a better word to describe it..

😀😀
Can you cut off the aerial roots from the tendrils?
Yes you can, if you are sure you wont propagate them. Those aerial roots are helpful for propagation 😀
Thanks for another video!!!
🙏🏽🙏🏽
Will a Hoya runner survive to propagate if you cut it without any leaves on it?
Yes it can but itll take way too long
Yes I am first. Thank you for the video. Looking forward to next one!
Thank youu.
Hello from canada, can You tell me why is m'y hoja plant is limp, i check the roots and they are real good.
Is it underwatered? Check for mealy buts too...

WOW I'm just in awe with all your knowledge.. Did you go to school to learn all this? And I love your subtitles they crack me up ...
Hello, I just like to read up on botany and troll other peoples plants on instagram!
Thanks for the info, Shawn. 🙂

Pruning hoya makes bushier plants, creating more branches also means more tendrils to get more peduncle in the future !
Also means more cuttings! Yaye. 😅
