+Owly Cloud good luck with you dude. its really good to start at an early age. I just started following this channel and i want to be a "real" man. am 28 years old and been a dick ever since.
I don't know if this guy covers it but since your young you should also know that you shouldn't get married, at least not anytime soon. If getting married and having a family is important to you at least wait until you are done with college and have become solid in your career. A lot of young guys rush into long term relationships and it ruins them. Remember if you aren't happy alone you wont be happy in a relationship.
Churchill had whiskey in the morning and a nap in the afternoon. I just switched that to nap in the afternoon and whiskey in the evening. Makes my evening routine pleasant (I'm 67 and retired).

Between work, school and having an 11 week old and all the things that need to get done... and then waking up several times during the night to help my wife... My routine is to not die of exhaustion and do it all again the next day. Livin the dream.
Great tips man, remember stumbling upon Art of Manliness years ago! Another tip is at the end of the day, journal what went well and what didn't that day, putting a + or - beside it really helps lay out what needs improvement & really stimulates growth & reflection
My morning routine, *I fall asleep directly after work since I work nights* wake up, make coffee, drink water, bathroom, brush teeth, jump rope for 5 minutes outside, drink coffee, have protein shake and an apple, hit the gym 3 days a week, shower, have breakfast...works great and I have tons of energy
I really loved this video. This is great advice and just what I needed to hear. It made me realize that I've been neglecting to plan my days and meditating which both are two things that drastically improve the quality of my life. I will pick them both up, meditation as a morning routine and planning as an evening routine. Thank you!
thank you I literally needed this cause I feel stuck in life right now (scratch that, more like floating throughout the days cause i don't know what to do or where to start) and i just want to be in control of my life really.
Funny story, I first started establishing morning/evening routines because I was trying to improve my teeth brushing habit. But, as I settled i into it, I found my life improving in more areas than my dental health: I was able to work out more, I'm getting more done in my day due to better planning, and I'm now closer than ever to my GED!
It a good idea to choose thing you can do in doors for your daily routines. During the rainy season or winter you may not have the ability to do thing you can only do out side. My morning routine used to be to swim from 4:30 to 5:30. Well that was fine thru early summer but then we got about 5 strait weeks of thunder storms. And I'm not to keen lean on the idea of swimming when there is lightning and strong winds. And now it coming in to winter and soon it will be far to cold to swim out doors. It took me about 3 weeks to get my mind adjusted to a new routine. And my body even longer.
Mr. McKay thank you so much for producing this video and the "Plan your week" video. These two videos and your article have helped me become a better time manager. Keep up the great work.
This is something I have constantly struggled with throughout my life. As always, Brett, you've broken it down into a simple formula and explained it clearly. I think it will be fairly easy to implement these guidelines. Great video!
I'm a Jiujitsu practitioner and competitor my morning routines definitely change alot but this is really useful and i also keep a journal much as possible
I'm a woman but these tips are still pretty helpful lol! And as a gamer I get distracted with wanting to play video games all the time. I need routines to achieve my goals and dream!! Cool video!!
I actually love "AOM" comment sections because it's usually full of guys that actually want to better themselves and not dumb trolls. Also thanks for the video!
I don't know if you've covered this in a video or on the website but a good topic to cover would be card table etiquette. How to shuffle, what direction to deal and other things
I already started to book end my days with routines. I’ve been questioning if I’m neurotic and if this is normal to ‘schedule in’ the little things. I include things like taking my vitamins, dishes, and drinking a jug of water. I have to write them down and plan them or else they don’t get done. I guess I feel silly for having to schedule very basic life skills. Ah well. It will soon become a habit I’m sure and become easier, then I can book end my day with more nourishing and soulful actions. Thanks!
Great Video! I just recently changed my routine, I'm working out in the morning instead of the night and to be honest, I hate it! but it has freed up my evening to pursue other goals. Hopeful after a few weeks I'll get use to the morning workouts.
Great video. I saw a text article from the Art of Manliness on stretching after prolonged computer use, which we all do, obviously. I didn't realise the other content was like this… basically a comprehensive list of how to's on improving your life and making the most of your time!
This is surprisingly good advice! This is the second video I watch from this channel, so far it's been refreshingly different from self-help bullsh*t. Keep up the good work Brett!
For my larger goals...long term goals...I record them on my phone, and listen to the recording before I even hop out of bed. There are a lot of great apps that let you play instrumental music in the background of your voice recordings, too.
Awesome! I just want to give props for a great positive feel and humour throughout your video. This is valuable and inspiring and will help me with my own morning routine.
Really thanks for this video! This channel always inspires me . There are lots of things I want to do . And you are guiding me to do that. I appreciate your work . Keep it up. And Best luck for your future...
Amazing video. I've already made a routine for myself. Its just that I'm struggling to follow it. Guess I just need to be strong enough and stick to it no matter what. Thanks a lot for the video again!
For someone who works an irregular work schedule this is much more difficult than those M-F 9-5ers but it can still be done. If I have an early shift like 4,5,6am to noon or 1pm I immediately do my workout and reading before I feel that urge to take a nap. If I work an evening like 2pm to 11pm I get it done in the morning. You 9 to 5ers have it so easy! No excuses!
Hey brett! Just wanted to say I really enjoy your videos and website. It's nice to have a mens website thats about improving yourself instead of just getting laid.
Thank you for posting this Brett! I've been trying to journal lately and the article on your website on the 31 journaling challenge has been very helpful. I've kind of slacked the past few days though and this just inspired me to get back to it. All the best, Peter
I do morning and evening routines and they've saved me a lot of wasted time. The evening routine is more important to me because it prepares me for the morning and I can hit the ground running. I use an app instead of writing them down, because it's more adaptable than paper. Anything that syncs with Google Tasks is great if you have a Google account; I use GoTasks for iOS and GTasks for Android.
If you enjoyed this, I would recommend two books: The One Thing by Gary Keller and Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. The concepts from this video are extremely similar.
I agree. Daily planner is a great thing have it was recommended to me from my OT occupational therapist and I found out it helps a great deal. Not only that I was relying on my cell phone colander more that my OT made a great point by saying there are accidents can happen to my cell phone that won’t happen to my daily planner such as the daily planner it won’t wipe out the whole app, if it falls off from my hand it won’t get damaged to where I have to spend so much money for repair or replacement, is bigger then cell phone n if I’m looking for it I can find it faster and is more organized physically that I can open a page without going from one screen to another. I love 💗 my 📖.
G'Day Mate, I am Geoffrey Ferguson, and i was wondering if you Guys over at The Art of Manliness thought about making a video about how to be self reliant? I have seen a video of yours where you said something along the lines of; people back in the days had classes and movies to help them with there morals and whatnot. I belive 'How to be Self Reliant' would be a great informative video. Thankyou and Regards Geoff.
Trying to gain a sense of control is likely to produce short relief but will cause long term problems. Learning to have psychological flexibility is going to be more beneficial in the long term.
I probably should practice a foreign language in the morning and read or study before bed. I'm too wired through out the day and am always messing with something and very rarely sit still. My friends always thought I was crazy going to bed at 8 pm and waking up at 5 for school and going all day, but I made the Dean's List last fall and the President's List this Spring. I'd say it paid off.
I live in the American Gardens Building on W. 81st Street on the 11th floor. My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb mint facial mask which I leave on for ten minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an aftershave lotion with little or no alcohol because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older, then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion. There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman. Some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me. Only an entity. Something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable, I simply am not there.
There are two I like - MuchelleB and Rowena Tsai - kinda on the younger side (they don't have children, etc) they both have videos on productivity and such 😁🌺

You know it's good advice when the books in the background are real and not just an image
When I found out he was a attorney, and watched his video on breaking habits. I realized he has definitely read everything on that shelf.

I didn't realize it at the time, but I incorporated this without knowing the definition of a morning routine when I started studying Japanese. I got up before work at 6:30 AM every day and spent 30 minutes (sometimes more, sometimes less) writing and learning Japanese characters, grammar, particles etc.. I have a long way to go but this strategy really helped; and not just with Japanese learning. I started feeling better about myself, like I was getting closer to the goal I set out and I only studied 30 minutes a day. It's remarkable.

Yeah the "depletion of will power" concept is what leads some very productive people to always eat the same things every day or always wear the same outfit every day. Up to a certain point having too much choice becomes paralyzing.

Is that why my breakfast and lunch are pretty much exactly the same? Dinner depends on what the wife makes, but my other two meals are up to me and I am VERY routine about it.
Reptile Nexus I do the same! Oatmeal with walnuts and honey along with 4 eggs fried in butter for breakfast about 95 percent of the time. How bout you?
+Danny Rodriguez lol dude how much do you weigh if that's your breakfast? Or are you seriously muscular? :-) That sounds like at least 1000 calories right there. With just breakfast.
***** 1 egg = 75 calories, butter 100 calories, oatmeal = 120 calories. Total =520 calories. I eat basically the same breakfast. Its about the same as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich but you get way more food..
Hmm true that, I was counting the baked eggs separately, which is silly of course :-) lol. Sounds good. My bad.
Great as always Brett. My father always told me, "Routine is the father of discipline."
Nicely done and a good reminder. My greatest periods of accomplishment & success are when I am diligent about setting bookend routines.
Just underwent a long period of upheaval..job loss, relocation, new job..more relocation.....so Im trying to get into a solid routine again.
Thanks for the pep talk.

Some of the best advice I ever got from an Harvard Professor was this: I read 10 pages or about an hour in total every morning. This reading material is from about 10 different books, e-books or youtube videos on different subject areas I want to improve in or expand my knowledge base on. I do this each morning before going to work (helps concentration reading bits of info; summerise points which I jot down and practice during the day and can reflect on later in the week, etc). The subject matter can range from business/managerial work skills/knowledge such as marketing, computing e.g. windows 10, trouble shooting, understanding financial reports, HR interventions, decision making, improving your memory, sales techniques, etc to making investments, learning about hobbies or new languages, philosophy, autobiographies, the art of manliness, gardening, prepping, etc.....1 hour per day equals 54 books per year on average - thats the combined total of all books read over the entire 3 year period of an MBA degree....and on the up you get to practice your "MBA theory" in a practical way hands on what you read every day in your life whereas a MBA student just gets to filter their theorectical knowledge into a thesis without real practical experience in real time application.....thats done only once they start working in the real world secularly generally. 1:03 and 3:27 Is How I Can Relate To This Man!
•My Morning Workout:
-Max Set Of Pull Ups: Not Timed
-2 Minutes For Each Of The Following 4 Exercises: Air Squats, Push Ups, Sit Ups, And Steam Engines
•Then 6 Minutes Of Elbow Planking
Then Finally
•6 Minutes Of Kickboxing(Either With A Heavy Bag Or Shadow Kickboxing)
•I also will buy in one of the following:
-3 Mile Run
-2,000 Meter Swim
-5,000 Meter Row
For The Calhestetics part, i haven't hit my fitness goals for a Max Set, but once I do, I will maintain these only as a bare minimum for a daily workout just to maintain my results.
But, here are my goals:
•Pull Ups: 30+
-Not Timed
•130+ In 2 Minutes Max For Each Exercise:
-Air Squats
-Push Ups
-Sit Ups
•100+ In 2 Minutes Each Side For The Steam Engines
In the evening I plan on doing a WOD, But if not, here's my minimum workout:
•15 Jumps For Distance
-3 In Each Direction
•Then 4 Sets Of 4 Reps Of One Of 'The Big 3' Barbell Exercises
And if I didn't get a run or a swum in, one of those two
hey use your phones calender to remind you to do things! huge for routines!!!
Moses Maestro A Yeah - I use the "reminders" alarm and set it to recur.
I started with making my bed every morning
Good habit, it really helped me
So McRaven of you. I do that, too
I can't make that habit work it messes with my sleep when I am trying to go to bed.
You are a great father to those who have unfortunate fathers
love it - you are helping thousands if not millions - your hard work is appreciated and well needed - God Bless

I usually listen the podcast. This is my first time to watch a video. Fan of yours Bry.
I have several goals that I want to complete this fall. Having morning and evening routines will help a bunch.
Good stuff. Planning is definitely was my weakness. Not today.

Awesome! I just want to give props for a great positive feel and humour throughout your video. This is valuable and inspiring and will help me with my own morning routine.
That mustach says "success".
Really thanks for this video! This channel always inspires me . There are lots of things I want to do . And you are guiding me to do that. I appreciate your work . Keep it up. And Best luck for your future...
Thanks for posting men! I needed this piece of advice and plan to work it in immediately.
just found this channel very impressed
Could you do a video about the importance of journaling and how to do it?
Always awesome advice good sir.
I really appreciated this video Brett, thank you.
Thank you for posting this Brett! I've been trying to journal lately and the article on your website on the 31 journaling challenge has been very helpful. I've kind of slacked the past few days though and this just inspired me to get back to it.
All the best,
Peter
Peter Matthew Glad you found that post helpful!
So glade you have a you tube channel I hate reading 😆 good stuff!!!
My morning routine is pooping while the coffee is being made.
Perfection
seems you've figured out the secret to life
I do morning and evening routines and they've saved me a lot of wasted time. The evening routine is more important to me because it prepares me for the morning and I can hit the ground running.
I use an app instead of writing them down, because it's more adaptable than paper. Anything that syncs with Google Tasks is great if you have a Google account; I use GoTasks for iOS and GTasks for Android.
redlightmax Great tip! Thanks
Thank you, for sharing 🙏
If you enjoyed this, I would recommend two books: The One Thing by Gary Keller and Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. The concepts from this video are extremely similar.
you should make more videos on great men throughout history. but love the new video and all your books!
G'Day Mate,
I am Geoffrey Ferguson, and i was wondering if you Guys over at The Art of Manliness thought about making a video about how to be self reliant?
I have seen a video of yours where you said something along the lines of; people back in the days had classes and movies to help them with there morals and whatnot. I belive 'How to be Self Reliant' would be a great informative video.
Thankyou and Regards Geoff.
just watched a few of your videos they are great! I am subscribed!
Thank you for this video. God bless you!
And though I can hide my cold gaze and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable, I simply am not there.
flamefleir Please don't kill anyone.
I'm a woman. Wish there was a woman channel like this.
mspixiedust100 you could always make one yourself :p
because nothing he said in this video was gender specific
I wish - I'm a girl but this channel does it for me xD I admire men and I'm not afraid to look to them for life tips
This applies to women aswell
You can also wake up at 5 if your feminine soul desires
There are two I like - MuchelleB and Rowena Tsai - kinda on the younger side (they don't have children, etc) they both have videos on productivity and such 😁🌺
