Other top-ranked high schools include: Signature School: Evansville, IN Tesla STEM High School: Redmond, WA Payton College Preparatory High School: Chicago, IL Riverside Stem Academy: Riverside, CA The 2024 rankings include nearly 17,660 public high schools from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. One of the best academic high schools in the US for centuries has been Boston Latin. Benjamin Franklin went to school there. He's on the hundred dollar 💵 bill and was born before basketball was invented.😂
ALL high schools in the US are from age 15-18 years old - 4 years of school, finishing the 12 years of school.. Once they graduate, they have the option of going off to college, which is actually university, or to a trade school, or just into the work force. Technically, a university is simply a collection of colleges - different paths of study. all in one school of higher education. We do have colleges, and these are higher schools of education, but with just one course of study. Most higher schools of education in the US are universaties, be we generally use the term 'college' for any form of higher education. Once you graduate from college (under graduate), you can get an BA (Bachelor of arts) or a BS (Bachelor of Science). If you continue with education, you will get a masters or some medical level, probably moving towards becoming a doctor. Becoming a full blown doctor is equivalent to getting a PHD in some line of study. But this high school is NOT typical, nor is it a public school. You have to pay to go to this school, and you can see from all the amenities that there is a LOT of money in this school. You should have looked for a high level public high school. My kids went to as very special high school in Saratoga, CA, ranked at that time around 15th in the nation for a public school. Ratings are based on kids scholastic state or national tests from that school.
High school grades in the US is 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. Usually a 9th grader are 13 and 14 year olds depending on where their birthday falls.
This is in Bradenton florida (about 50 miles south of Tampa on the gulf coast), it started in the early 80s as the Nick Bolletieri Tennis Academy but turned into what you see now. These students are recruited to go here and once they commit the are represented by IMGs (International Management Group) sports agents. I have played the golf course there several times and have watched the school grow over these last 4 decades into this behemoth. IMG purchased the academy in the late 80s from Nick but he stayed on as a director and ran the tennis aspect of the academy. Some names from there that you might recognize from tennis are Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Monica Seles, Venus and Serena Williams, and Maria Sharapova. Its school is 6th grade (11/12 yrs old) to 12th grade/senior (17/18 yrs old), this is middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12) and post graduate. In 2023 IMG Academy was sold for $1.26 BILLION.
This school is what’s referred to as a ‘Football Factory’. It’s prepares kids for Sports and NOT academics. They learn just enough to get into college but not enough to use their brains separate from sports
I don't recall seeing the library or any of the science labs. One would think that these would be an important part of "America's #1 Ranked High School." Maybe I just have my priorities mixed up.

In the United States, high school is ninth grade through the 12th grade. So the age group is 15 to 18. Prior to the 90s, many schools throughout the United States had junior high schools, as opposed to middle schools that exists today. Junior high school was 7th, 8th, and 9th grades. The 9th grade, while technically the first year of high school, was still attended at a junior high school. Students attended the last three years in high school. So this was 15 to 18 years of age. Ninth graders will turn 15 by the time they enter 10th grade. Prior to the 90s, elementary school was up to the 6th grade. Now, elementary school is up to the 5th grade. Middle school is 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.
In Britain, "public school" has a different meaning to the American understanding of the term. In the UK, a public school is a fee/tuition-charging institution where students board - for example, Eton College, where the Royals typically send their children. In the US, the word "public" describes the manner in which the school is funded; IE, by public tax money. A public school is free of tuition, where any student who lives within its boundaries may attend. There are some rare exceptions of public schools which are highly selective and require entrance examinations, interviews, etc. Generally, the American equivalent of a British public school is called a "prep school" where students may or may not board on campus. IMG is a different animal altogether. It is an elite sports factory, full stop. Unless you have the talent and potential to receive a full athletic scholarship to a large university (or turn professional immediately upon graduation), they don't want you.
My High School had a knockoff Starbucks in the Lower Commons and buffet's in the Upper Commons. My favorite though was in the regular lunch room, we had the regular poor food of course, but we also had Italian and Mexican lines. Good memories.
