It is a private school that recruits top athletes from around the country. It focuses on athletics. Most if not all the students there will play a sport in college.
It's a Prep Boarding School, which means it's very exclusive, probably like some of the UK's most prestigious public schools, but this has a bent toward athletics. Not sure how focused it is on academics. It was founded by Nick Bollettieri, who is famous as a coach for some of the best tennis players.
IMG Academy tuition rates are based on the comprehensive nature of our programming and resources available to student-athletes. 2025-2026 full year boys football tuition ranges from $70,500-$95,500 depending on age and program enrollment.
Its a private academy that many students receive tuition paid by others to attend. Its located in Bradenton Florida just south of St. Petersburg on the west coast. They have excellent academics but is a sports driven school, IMG is a marketing conglomerant and represent their students in the business world of sports...i.e. Sport Agents. Lasy years graduating class had 10 students be accepted to Ivy League schools such as Harvard, Yale, and Penn, their academics results are very impressive so its competely false to say its only focus is sports. It was founded in 1978 but became famous thru its tennis academy, the Williams sisters, Monica Seles, Andre Agassi, Boris Becker, Maria Sharapova, and many many more.
The website advertises the school as a sports focus so it is not false to point that out. If it happens to have good academics that is secondary to the main mission of sports. There are plenty of other schools that produce students that get accepted to Ivy League colleges. IMG is not the main source. More professional athletes are produced than Ivy League students.
I've played their golf course in Florida about 10yrs ago. It wasn't like this when I played there. It was still expensive and crazy how it worked. 9 holes in the morning, then breakfast. Next 2 classes then training with coach. Another class, then lunch. After lunch another 9 holes, then another class. Break then out to the course for team practice.
Not in any way a typical HS, this is a sports academy run by a corporation, they do offer regular academic courses but no on other than an athlete is going to go there. Currently the best ranked schools are North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (public) and Groton School in MA (private)
IMG Academy is a private school specifically geared toward sports. Definitely not the average high school... and I would doubt that it's ranked top in anything other than money 😆
Parents pay the school to take their children and train them first, educate them second. Please don't think this is common. I never heard of this place until I saw this video.
This is a private school with heavy athletic focus. This isn’t common but there are plenty of high schools that spend millions on high school athletics. I played d1 baseball and football in Texas and as insane as American sports seem to you. It’s even crazier
In most cases, the most elaborate schools create these types of schools begins with the tax base. If wealthier incomes are in the areas, the next step is to see if the home owners are younger, professionals, are there families or an elderly population. These schools know wealthy families expect great education, so these schools try to promote their schools as sources for good education. The students are encouraged to be there for the fun aspects. Along with prestige is great sports that parents & their kids like. This discourages fewer drop kids.
This is a sports campus disguised as a school. It's owned by the IMG agency to pump out pro sports athletes that they can profit off of if they go pro. I have a feeling the actual education to be considered a school is sub-par.
This is the most elaborate school I've ever seen. But, like so many things, if it's successful and well known, you'll see other school districts wanting to do similar or better. Not all areas concentrate on there schools, while others seem to spend lots of money. You can look up statistics of schools in any State, then you go visit them. Not all schools will give tours. If they do, they'd likely be scheduled before the new school year begins, unless your child is an overachiever. Good schools will go out of their way if they have evidence that the child is very good. Some schools jus exist to make and spend money and they dont have good outcomes. The school across the street from me has an 18% rate of students performing at grade level, but the number of heads in the classroom is how they get funded.
Like anything else, some schools seem to have everything, some hardly teach anything. Some look beautifullly and professionally manicured, others have no grass but lots of graffiti. Florida & Texas spend a lot of money building a ton on sporting events. Huge stadiums or many sports arenas is a growing common trend. Some universities are like resort play grounds. They dont just spend a lot on sports, they do the same with leisure. Some have several olympic pools, bars, carnival rides including ferris wheels, etc.
this is the top ranked school for athletics, not curriculum or academic performance. the top high school in the US for academic performance would be Basis - Peoria in Peoria, AZ. it is a tuition free, public charter school.
I just heard earlier today that 134 students from here went on to the next level in football. Elite colleges come straight to this high school to fill their teams.
These young men ARE from VERY rich families OR their on scholarship. Yes, they are phenomenal athletes, but a lot of average kids in high schools across the nation are amazing athletes too!
Millie, please understand that this is not a regular high school. It is a prestigious private school dedicated strictly to athletics and the study of coaching. There is a tuition, and it is not cheap You can go there on a scholarship, but those are difficult to get and you basically have to be top of the top in the athletic department and destined for the pro circuit even before you get to high school.
Hi Millie! Your video was great (like all the others)! This is not a High School. It's a sport resort. American High Schools are much smaller & are education driven.
This is like Julliard for athletes... not a typical school. Now, a lot of school in the US do have excellent gyms, football fields and basketball courts... but this is an extreme example.
Yes they are students. It’s a sport type of school who want to go pro. They live there. The parents have to be wealthy to send their kids to this school
We generally have very well run public high schools, but this one is probably 10 times bigger than a public high school. You should look at other high schools that are smaller and public.
I would rather focus on schools with good academics. The Bronx High School of Science is a good example of a free school that has a rigorous curriculum and produces excellent students.
I think this is what you might call a boarding school. Only teaching sports would be illegal in the US. Parents may send their kids to school here mainly because of the sports programs. I'm really not sure.
There are magnet and charter schools that do focus on specific academics too. This school has to cost a lot in order to provide an appropriate setting for multiple sports. Right? There is actually no limit to the amount of money schools can be allocated by your state legislature/governor. How much tax would you like to pay?
A lot of high schools have name brand restaurant these days.. This high school is the reason the republican party wants to do away with public schools so our tax money can pay for the rich high school! Remember their parents are the ones who are running the citys, states, and federal systems and normally get what they want! I get very sick watching this high school because I come from the state that has high school like this but also has the poorest ones. Even your lower grade schools! you can go to google maps look at the schools and one will be all dark green cut grass and the others will be mostly dirt and rocks! When i was doing sports we had to play on some of those fields and it was like being tackled in the street! We need a fair system and if the rich want school like this they should all be funded by the parents themselves just like its been for ages.
Not at all "Normal'... BUT as an American grandma It was fun to see... IMO way too much pressure on these kids.... Yes, they are talented, and Yes they need this if they are going to succeed in sports in America.. but its kind of sad that they don't experience what most kids in America experience. There are tons of summer programs for kids.. I think that is better for the kids who are good at sports.
Let’s get one thing straight it not the #1 Academic high school, it’s the #1 athletic high school. I can promise you that there are much better academic high schools this school is where parents waste money.
IMG is a jock and jockette school - very, very far from the #1 academic highs in the US. There are several lists of best school for what schools are for (learning) and IMG is not on those lists.
This comment section is funny. If you’ve been following this channel long enough, you know she doesn’t believe this is like every high school in the US.
I'm American, and I've never heard of this. I went to a Military school. I thought that was quite high end. This school must be Alumni funded by some crazy Alumni. Seriously, how many kids at this school aren't keeping up their academics with all the distractions going on?! I noticed that there was nothing about academics in this video. Isn't that supposed to be the number one thing?
I would prefer a private academic high school; I went to an ordinary public school ... I qualified for regular college, but not semi-pro college sports ;-)
Not everything is exclusive to just a few schools, but the facilities are better. For instance, lots of schools have golf courses and/or driving ranges, but some have much bigger, better facilities and equipment, with constant upkeep. Every highschool I know of have tennis courts, and compete, but some have two courts, some have ten or more courts well maintained. The same goes with classrooms, cafeterias, parking, etc. The tour of this school makes me kind of angry. Their focus seems less ambitious than their budget.
I’ve had the opportunity to work with a few NFL players in the late 80’s & 90’s; they are not the brightest! Some couldn’t even figure out how to use a telephone. Way before cell phones were a common thing. I’m not knocking them, but their schooling was geared towards their sport. Academics was definitely secondary, and oftentimes “cheated” by the program to enable and promote their abilities on the field.
I wonder what number 1 ranked means. They're ranked number one in what? I would hope number one meant academics; but I didn't hear anything in this video about their academics. This is not a typical highschool in the United States. I have never seen anything about this.

#1 high school??? Hardly. It's a private, super expensive high school for promising athletes. Its not a normal high school and it's obscene, in my opinion. I taught high school for 35 years and we could only dream of having such facilities. As someone who believes in public education, this school is excessive and absurd. I don't know who could possibly afford to go to such a high school. The tuition is nearly $100,000 a year. It's insane.
This is a Private High School for promising Athletics. The cost is over 90,000 dollars per year.
It is a private school mainly directed at top end high school athletes. This is not typical by any means.
This is nothing like a normal high-school. This is a special school for very good athletes.
