Hi! Could you please adjust ALL of the HP bars before release? The bars bottom right on the unit UI could look so much less out of place if they just had some non-rectangular shape or some design like a border. The HP bars on settlements are straight up hard to look at
Marbs -- you are the Deity of Civ. Really pleased that you got in on the early access! I am glad to be here with you at the beginning of your Civ7 journey.
Man the UI is so very dark. The fog of war is dark, the frames are dark, the text is dull bronze color which doesn't stick out as well as white would. The difference between the VI policy screen where everything is color coded and vibrant and this policy screen is severe.
What is immersion breaking for me is on the face-off diplomancy leader screen when viewing Isabella I immediately think of Spain, but she doesn't represent that "civilization", and just casually watching I don't really know whom she is a leader of.
Egypt, her flag is Egyptian, and it doesn't really matter what civilization she leads in terms of immersion, since you wouldn't expect to meet some random person from a culture you never saw before and immediately know that they like paella.
Only 5 minutes in but I noticed already that the player unlock screen has this nice art work behind each UI panel which gives it a lot of character but then all the regular user interface stuff like when you have a city selected is just this dull gray/blueish background with no art except for some minor white icons. Nitpicking here but it feels like a missed opportunity, even all the sub-menu's are the same bland color with no distinction. Modders got some work to do.
Great video, as always. I haven’t bothered to watch any other TH-camr’s Civ VII videos because yours are the best. Very curious to hear your thoughts when the embargo is lifted. I am still not sold yet but remain open minded.

Is it just me or CIV 7 seems to be a marriage between CIV 6 and Humankind game mechanics and visuals? This is so freaking weird... much more Humankind vibes than actually CIV vibes.
I don't get why some people keep saying this, besides the superficial similarity of choosing a new civ every age (which is handled in a very different way in each game).
For the first time i'm not so hyped about new civ and i do not feel that exitement and urge to play it. There are some aspects that i liked like the visual, but for most of the game kind of nah! It look so much like Humnakind, but for the not likeable features, no feel of real legacy and making history for my tribe, it's like nothing matters and you are more a no heart mercenary playing with the faction that will "pay" you more. And i do not like how age mechanics was implemented, but we will see more in the future, if will pass the test of time.
@ Everyone can make his decisions, is not you to say what others to do. Regardless of other people choices, it will not affect you, you can be what you believe in. I played civilization for more than 20 years and i will play for years to come, maybe not CIV 7, it is not your place to say anything about it.
@@raulepure9840 i will probably end up buying the game at some point, but the civ switching and mix n match leaders and lack of map options are a negative for sure
I can't somehow get used to some of those new game mechanics even if I understand the ideas behind them. It's really nice that they tried to mimic how the things in reality worked through the history of mankind but they could execute it better. At first look the game looks overwhelming and complex with so many options and possibilities but in the end I got a feeling that after two or three plays most of those things will be useless as players will find the best approach to the game that will be so strong that you will never explore other strategies and paths. I hope I'm wrong. I really like, and I'm still playing Civ 5 in multiplayer because it's much simpler to handle and still gives you so many options to plan your strategy for the game and win it. Civ 5 is more like chess when Civ 7 is more like a card game with full market behind it. :) Well. I still will watch your let's plays and commentary even if I won't like the game. Keep up good work!
I hate to say it but unless the game you're playing is completely random there will always be a best way to play, and with how much easier it is to access that knowledge nowadays it's a lot harder to avoid the meta of any game unless you stick to the single player
My feeling is that the unique abilities and options are too diffuse throughout the game - you need to invest in unique policy trees to get half the bonuses for playing a civ! It's a nice idea but it makes each individual bonus less impactful: +5% production on this thing here, +1 yield on that thing there... nothing really stands out. I'm sure there are interesting combinations etc. but it feel like Path of Exile or something where you need to assemble an interesting build out of essentially uninteresting pieces. Whereas I prefer, if we are treating a Civ playthrough like a "build", something like Dota where each piece is overpowered/wacky/interesting but more costly, so you might make fewer choices but they all feel important. The game is very chopped up between the different ages, civs, policies, and leaders, so you get a lot of replayability because there are so many particular combinations. But it creates a sense of sameness between all the options, at least when reading about it. We'll see when playing it.
Best thing to do is not look for strategies, just explore and enjoy like the first civ games one plays for the first time. People today care too much about min maxing and take their own joy out of the experience. There is a lot of changes in this game that should provide plenty of playtime. Not to mention lots of combos of civ/leaders and goals for each ages.
How does this game get so many things wrong? 18:40 That’s not what the Jomon originally wore or looked like, rather that’s something that the Yayoi brought over to Japan from China.
0:35 I heard a TH-camr complaining about the look of the resource icons, saying wtte their cheap and cheerful appearance is at odds with the high-quality assets used in creating the world map, and I totally agree. Right from the get-go, I can see they don't match the general aesthetics of the map; hopefully, the devs will change them because they're mildly distracting to the point of being slightly annoying.
the thought of having caesar lead the egyptians or mongols feels wrong to me... idk who came up with the idea of historical iconic leaders that can be matched with any civ but not a big fan

so much new stuff, it will be quite fun to learn them. One worry I have is that whenever there are this many micro-manageable features/options in a turn based game (and this is only the base game, god knows what will Firaxis add with expansions), the player can usually trivialize any challenge the AI could pose in single player and in multiplayer it would be very hard to stand in front of a snowball. very nice preview video! i like a lot the changes for this new game, most def gonna grab it at some point this year ... looking forward to discover more civ7 with you very soon :)
Two questions, that I think you can answer: first, is did you have full access? Did you get to play all the way through to the modern age? Second, is did your play-through answer any misgivings you had about some of the design choices? You don’t have to give specifics, so you don’t get in trouble, I’m just wondering if the extended play through answered questions.
I pointed this out when I saw the initial trailers and the developers talking about the game where they said "we spent a lot of time getting the languages right because we're really focused on historical accuracy." At the same time, having Augustus of the Incas, Elizabeth of the Japanese and Tokugawa of the Maori is extermely historically accurate. I wish I could be like Thomas and say I've never seen such bullshit before but alas. Don't give the reason of historical accuracy when one of the core mechanics of the game makes it utterly and unavoidably ahistorical.
So in early Civs I could play the U.S. (and Russia, Germany, etc., etc.) from 4000 BC on--which is ridiculously ahistorical. And I had a immortal leader who lived for 6000 years. So these sort of "core mechanics" have ALWAYS been "ahistorical." Somehow, past generations of Civ enthusiasts managed to survive such monstrosities. I suspect you will too, should you choose to play Civ 7 :)
@davidsprenkle2641 It's not me who is saying that they are focusing on historical accuracy, it's the developers of Civ 7. They've certainly done a great job of that.
@ They're trying to be "historically accurate" in some ways relating to game flavor, but also trying to construct a playable game. And this is the way Civ has ALWAYS been. A fun game which might teach you a bit along the way (I've lost track of how many Jeopardy! questions I've gotten right because of stuff I've learned from Civ), So for you to call this "bullshit" kinda got my attention--especially since what seemed to be ticking you off in particular was the leader/civ dichotomy. I'm thinking you're WAY overreacting to something trivial. (But here I am, overreacting to something trivial--your opinions--so pot meet kettle, I guess).

@@NONO-hz4vo I could see future packs adding several historical versions of the same Civ, so that you have options for continuously playing the same “people/culture” if you want. Like The Franks, the French Renaissance, and modern French. Or Qin, Ming, Yuan, and (modern) China. Something along this line
Based on the livestreams from the dev's, I am looking forward to Civ7. First I need to buy a new graphics card though.
I loved Civ V and hated Civ VI. Im curious how VII will be.
Can't wait to watch some of your playthroughs!
thank you marbles
very nice preview video!
i like a lot the changes for this new game, most def gonna grab it at some point this year ...
looking forward to discover more civ7 with you very soon :)
there's a really loud audio glitch at 55:10!
How is the difficulty rise up? Does the ai improve or just get more bonus?
pff so many pop ups
Civ VII is looking very good, I hope they don't mess it up
good to be back... let's go 2025!
Just me or do the graphics and ui look like it's 1995?
If only for the civ switching nonsense i would be excited
Civ V will not be topped anytime soon
Yeah it firmly at the absolute bottom.
Civ V will always be the best Civ
Civ 5 nailed the atmosphere so much that it's almost impossible for firaxis to top it.
6 already did
Two questions, that I think you can answer: first, is did you have full access? Did you get to play all the way through to the modern age? Second, is did your play-through answer any misgivings you had about some of the design choices? You don’t have to give specifics, so you don’t get in trouble, I’m just wondering if the extended play through answered questions.
He has played through to the end, he has mentioned in other videos. Modern age is just embargoed, it’s not disabled in the build.
@ Thanks, that’s what I was wondering. If he had a full build. Now I’m wondering about the second question I had!
So they didn't/have no time to fix the terrible UI
Off course not... that will be a DLC.
I pointed this out when I saw the initial trailers and the developers talking about the game where they said "we spent a lot of time getting the languages right because we're really focused on historical accuracy."
At the same time, having Augustus of the Incas, Elizabeth of the Japanese and Tokugawa of the Maori is extermely historically accurate.
It's a party, everyone is invited ❌️
It's a party, Marbz invites everyone ✅️
That civilization switching is pretty much a hard pass for me :/
