Hi Derek Thanks for your great videos - and thanks for using the same terminology as the parts descriptors in the parts manuals. No "whasits' or "thingies" here. So easy to follow you and so explicit. Question: how do I move on to the next segment of a Q & A. There appears to be no forward link? For instance: Q&A Coleman Pop Up Camper Lift Systems Part 1 So where can I find Part 2 (if it's available) Thank you sir Fran McLoughlin
Hello we have followed your videos And have done a few upgrades as you recommend - can you make a DIY video on on the install a new mini fridge in a Coleman please and thank tou
Great info! My 99 utah top has always been perfectly level, until I lowered it, now I have a good 1.5inch gap on the back right when closed. Not raising or lowering.(it's still level when doing this) Only when closed. Heck, It has never done this before. And yes, I've made sure nothing is in the way of it closing. 🤣 but, is that enough gap to try to go back and move the bracket you where talking about...? And which way should I move it?
So I bought a 96 Coleman Cheyenne and it is hard to crank up. I took the lift cover off and it was filled with a nest. What should I use to clean the mechanism? It's grass and feathers. Oh and a huge thanks for your videos they have sure helped me get to know my PopUp :)
Great video. While opening & closing my 96 sun valley, i can feel metal rubbing (drag). Would this be the block in the whiffle tree on the cover plate or maybe the thrust bearing? It engages fine and raises/ lower with no other issues. Thx
Our 1992 Coleman Americana Williamsburg broke a main cable (raised too high and pawl wouldn't release) have a new one fabricated. With an AC unit on the roof I'm expecting the new cable to stretch, maybe alot. The Coleman lift system repair guide says you back off the shafts 4 turns. Do I intentionally make the new cable shorter knowing it will stretch or count on a later adjustment? How much do these cables stretch? Great idea doing this Question and Answer!
Good questions Larry! I recommend cutting it to the proper length, and watching the corners for the correct timing over the next couple of raise and lowers. If the replaced cable corner starts to "slow" then do your adjustment.
@@popupcamperpro so something counterintuitive (to me at least) happened. I swaged the end with the wiffletree backed off the four turns but when I pulled my 51" blocks out that corner sagged alot more than the other corners. I suspect I didn't get the all of the lift arm cables taut. I moved the pulley one space to bring it up but now that corner hits a hard stop before the other corners. Do you think I have something amiss in that lift arm?
Hey there! We’ve done away with the upper lift system due to problems with the chain. We now have it working only with the lower lift system. Since this change we can only get the back corners to lift and the front won’t unless we lift all the weight up while cranking. All of the cables are adjusted the same however the two front cables are very loose while the back cables are tighter. All cables are running through the pulleys correctly. Is there something we’re missing? If you could help us I would greatly appreciate it. We’ve tried everything we know to do. Thanks so much!
You are going to need to tighten or replace those front cables. With your lift system you may not have adjustment brackets to move the pulleys before the lift arm. To check, take a look at our video “what cable goes where on coleman campers” if you can move pulleys, try that first.
Just replaced Thrust bearing, extension tube and drive shaft on my 1995 Destiny Cedar. While raising the camper the drive gear moves forward enough that the pawl spring falls off the drive gear. Do I need a spacer plate installed next to the thrust bearing to prevent this from happening? There was no spacer removed from the original assembly. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
We have a 92 pioneer arcadia and this last weekend the bigger bed came out. We are trying to figure out how to fix it. Do you have a video of how to fix/replace? It has the wheels and rivet brackets. Thank you in advance!
Awesome video. Each corner of my 1995 coleman Rio grande were lifting at different time with only one corner going up to full height I was able to adjust three of pully but one corner still needs to go up another inch but the pully is at maximum height. can that be adjusted at the whiffed tree thank you
I have a 1996 Coleman Niagra and have a hydraulic lift system. The lift cables are broken. I have watched your u-tube on doing stage cables. Need to know how i start to run cable from lift arm through frame
Great Video, I have a 2003 Coleman Monterey with the power lift system. The motor seems to strain when lifting. I greased the whiffle tree and all the pulleys, which did not help. When the roof lowers it is quite noisy inside the cover between the motor/drive and whiffle tree. Do you think it is the thrust bearing?
Alex, I would start with the thrust bearing. I am not sure that the noise you hear is coming from this part though. Typically a grinding noise is unfortunately the motor.
After replacing a broken rear left cable on my 2009 Coleman E3 popup, I am having trouble installing the door. The roof needs to go up another inch. All the cables appear tight and I did not adjust any of them following installing the new cable. I would assume the adjustment for this is in the whiffletree using the cable buts, but I can't find any videos of information about proper ways to adjust these cables. A little help would be appreciated.
My camper top would not raise-turn the handle and nothing happened. I replaced the drive hub extension tube, and now it raises BUT there is no clicking and it will fall if you let go of the handle. Obviously, it is not catching. Do I need a new crank system or just replace ratchet pawl? Also, the chain is taught on one side but loose on the other
Hello again Krista! Sounds like you may have more than one issue occurring here. Lack of complete compression after the tube installation is the first, and a large chain length error (not common) or torsional loads passing the thrust bearing (common)
Our Aussie 1984 coleman appears to be the same as the US sun valley model but the main lift cables are 1 continuous cable that loops to include the first lift stage cable. I previously found an article or video that showed how to replace it and make it into 2 separate cables but have been unable to find anything now that I need it. I've simply cut and removed the main lift cable (after it snapped) but my issue is that the metal bracket doesnt seem to fit over the 2 separate eyelets now and I'm not sure what to do about that.
Hmm. This doesn't sounds like a Coleman system. Try entering your VIN number into the VIN decoder at our webstore. What manufacture name does it return?
I think cutting off the extra tube length would be easier than someone finding and drilling the correct size hole for that pin to press fit in to for the drill adaptor to fit.
@@popupcamperpro Hey I was curious as to the importance of that wave spring/washer that goes in the extension tube with those 2 washers and the plastic spacer? I know it's essentially a spacer/shim of about .060 thousandths when compressed but what does that light spring pressure do when the tube is spun out to lower the roof? Maybe it cushions the tube as it threads outward into the 5/8 nut? I noticed the one im working on now the 2 washers are concaved in like someone backed the tube out pretty tight when the roof was down the entire way and it squished and concaved the washers into the plastic spacer.
Hello. We have a Coleman with a lift motor. I have a couple of questions....the hydrolic oil is leaking causing a horrible racket when lifting. When i refill the fluid no more racket (yay!) But how and where can I find a new seal to fix my motor? Coleman doesnt seem to carry them? Also...IF i need to replace the entire motor...how can I tell if it is a round or square motor?

Im having a problem with installing new crank 6311 , the bearing wont stay in the right position and gear wont stay in place to catch paw. I bought new parts and watched your videos but am still stumped thanks for any help. Ralph in michigan
Thanks for the videos! I just bought a ‘93 Coleman Rio Grande camper. The roof doesn’t stay open on its own. The previous owner just used a vice grip clamped on the extension rod (I think that’s what it’s called, the rod the crank handle attaches to). It cranks up easy enough, but once it’s cranked all the way to the top, it’ll slowly wind back down without the vice grip in place. Any ideas?
@@popupcamperpro Is there a version of the Coleman direct drive crank assembly that doesn't include a drive hub extension tube?
