The 50s through the middle 90s was the absolute best period in the history of music…. Soulful passionate voices, stunning harmonies, and of course their musicianship with their instruments….
Like others have already stated, the 70’s musically was incredible. We had real musicians playing real instruments with no auto tune on their vocals. Black or white didn’t matter we just had great music to listen to.
This is the stuff I grew up on. Firefall, Player, Triumph, all the singer/songwriters, CSN. Songs that told a story, played by real musicians with talent. No auto-tune, just people laying their hearts out there for all to see. Multi-track recording started in the 50's. Les Paul was the innovator who created not only that, but also came up with reverb. Plus he made a pretty good electric guitar.
Gosh, I love these new kids listening. My mom refused us the living room for years. We were all musical, and she couldnt tolerate the noise. We got the barn, (no animals in there, they were safely penned outside). Finally, dad gave in. He bought us a pool table, and a big clunky stereo. I'm not sure if you would have ever seen one. A turn table on top, double cassete player underneath, a stereo/radio under that, speakers on the bottom. We sat in the floor, around the stereo, and listened with intent, what we thought we could learn to play. Who had the voice to sing it? Then, out to the barn, to recreate what we learned. A lot of heartache and fear, but, it was a majical time.
