  • After a year using our Class C coach, we have had it with carrying around 2x12 ramps, so we decided to have hydraulic levelers installed on our rig. The system we chose was the Bigfoot Wireless Manual System for Ford E-450 based motorhomes.

    I bought 2007 30' Winnie back in the fall. I've always wanted Levelers on all my other RVs. I don't want to carry the boards around anymore so I think after watching your video I'm going to buy this system. Thank you for the video.

    I have salvaged a Big.Foot system from a 40 foot Gulfstream 2002 that had a kitchen fire.. It's a 4 pump 4 reservoir system and it is fully automatic.. I Have to go take it out ..In a class a the cylinders are bolted right to the frame .. No welding needed.. I have a 32 foot Itasca Sunrise so this system is really going to work like a charm made for a rv 25000 pounds.. Mine is only 15000 pounds.

    I like your explanations and your reasoning on why you went with manual.
    I think I want automatic
    But your logic is sound.

      My current RV has an automatic system, but I can hear some creaking sounds as it zeros in.

    Thank you. This is a great video! and I was considering the same issue. Looking at buying a new RV, and if it doesn't come with levelling system, I will have it added. This will be the RV that we use at our Alaskan home and we also own uneven recreation/hunting property there, that we will camp on. So a levelling system will be mandatory, I have decided. I am also intrigued by the capability to use it to change wheels, or even assist in getting the RV out of a rutted scenario for example. I could see where I could raise the tires and place rocks or boards under them to get out of a stuck situation, which I have experienced with our 4 Winds in Alaska. Also, I would be researching leveling system with the highest stroke. I was also interested to hear your idea about increasing the antenna length. This should work. Thanks again for a very informative video.

    Great video, I just bought a class C this past summer. This is one of the things I would like to have put on ours. I was thinking it could als double as an electric jack in order to do a tire change. What's your thoughts....I saw where the front was lifted off the ground. Thanks for the pros & cons also👍

    • @RVProject
      @RVProject  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I no longer have the Class C, but if I recall from memory, each jack could lift about 10,000lbs. Since the whole RV only weighed about 14,000lbs, the 4 jacks could easily lift it.
      I never tried lifting the rear wheels as it was kind of a scary thought. However, when I had the system installed at the factory facility, I recall seeing a custom Super Class-C having jacks installed, and they did a test with all 6 wheels off the ground.
      One issue I see is there is a safety issue with using a leveler to lift a wheel when changing a tire. Leveler mfgs typically warn against tire changing by using the jacks. It is a liability issue to be sure, but still good advice.
      At any rate, I have road-service on my RV. When I saw the size of the Class C tires, I figured I was not going to change one of those.
      For less than $100 per year, it is cheap insurance to have someone else change a tire (although there is the time factor waiting for the arrival of the service vehicle).

      @@RVProject Thanks for the reply...our unit did not come with a spare tire...prob giving us a hint😉 not to attemp it. I figured the manufacturer prob would warn against using equiptment for other reasons than designed for. I'm still going to get some electric jacks for the leveling alone. Thanks again for the detailed reply👍

    i just do not see why rvers use thos plastic expensive blocks to level out their coaches vs hydraulics? i am going to give a bottle jack / jack stand combo a try. i can't stand using plastic on a 10 ton rig, does not make sense to me but those plastic things are so popular, hydraulics is the answer.....

    • @RVProject
      @RVProject  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The plastic blocks work well for lighter RVs. a 10Ton RV, maybe not so much.
      They are popular because they are a lot lighter weight than bottle jacks, especially given you can drive your wheels over them.
      I think I remember Lynx stating they have a 30,000lb crush resistance. Of course that would be under ideal conditions, but I don't think I would use the orange blocks with that much of a load.

    Can you installed it in any state such as Virginia

    • @RVProject
      @RVProject  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would have to check with Bigfoot to see if they have any certified installers in your area.

    I have a class A. What does an installation of these cost?

    • @RVProject
      @RVProject  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Philip Bodkin It all depends on who you have do the installation. For me, I live about an hour from the Bigfoot/Quadra factory, and they typically run a special in January each year with a $100 flat installation fee (normally the installation fee is around $750 if I recall).
      Depending on where you have the installation done, I would expect a different price structure.

    How many other systems did you look into? I am already so tired of carrying around various blocks and such. Can it lift more than 4" on one side , driveways in particular are severely sloped.

    • @RVProject
      @RVProject  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In addition to the Bigfoot, I looked into the Lippert and HWH systems. I think Bigfoot was the best of the three. As well, I live 50mi or so from the factory, so I had the factory install them.
      The cylinders they used have a 12" travel if I recall. The amount of lift is dependent on where they are located on the chassis, and how much ground clearance they dial in when being installed.
      However, you can get the full 12" of this (or any other lift system), simply by putting blocks under the cylinders. Of course, you are considering lifts so you don't have to carry around blocks, but for your driveway, that would be an exception, no?

      It was the ONE thing I didn't think about before beginning my adventure. Having to spend the first month at an extreme right angle proved its importance. IDK if the levelers are possible this year but it would be a tremendous advantage.

    What I have learned from watching this video is to hell with the stupid Wireless Bigfoot go for the Bigfoot auto-leveling system that is hard-wired it also allows you to manual use as well!!!
