    "Even a stiffened tail alone, could still have delivered a painful blow". I had an Iguana for 18 years and If an adult Iguana get you with its tail, it hurts and will leave a decent wilt and can even break the skin. Even when they are hatchlings it feels like someone snapping your skin with a rubber band.

      Edwyn Brown asides from the very few sauropods mentioned, all animals that had clubs had armor, probably because if you have armor, you can't move very fast, so a ramming attack with horns isn't very effective. The sauropods' armor was being really big, also slowing them down.

    • @sspsp6545
      @sspsp6545 3 ปีที่แล้ว +59

      Kinda like how dolphins adopted a very similar body shape to ichthyosaurs, other than the horizontal tail, because well they're mammals and thats how mammal spines function.

  • @melvinshine9841
    @melvinshine9841 3 ปีที่แล้ว +921

    Ankylosaur tail clubs had to be some of the most devastating, non-toxic, defensive weapons to ever evolve, and I say that as a Stegosaurus fanboy. A puncture wound from a spike, horn, or tusk could be "easier" to recover from depending on whether it gets infected, where it hits, the size of the animals, etc. A tail club could shatter bone or rupture organs, so that's more likely to cause potentially fatal or permanently crippling injuries if it hits anywhere ahead of the tail.

    • @sephikong8323
      @sephikong8323 3 ปีที่แล้ว +97

      Even if it lands on the tail it is brutal, a shattered tail means that the theropod loses it's balance on top of the injury to the bone and the potential shrapnel in the flesh, meaning that even hitting the tail could be extremely detrimental to a predator

    • @llantup

    Someone needs to tell this man to go buy Tamora Pierces Immortals series. At least the first 3. It’s young adult fantasy and was from pre-Harry Potter so the books are short and easy reads. I got hooked when I was 12 (the new books are much longer).
    At the end of the 3rd book, this girl is given the ability to wake the dead by a vindictive goodness who uses her to teach a nation a lesson. One of the first things the girl does is goes straight to the palaces Hall of Bones and bring back all of the dinosaur skeletons. They can move like they still have flesh, so they help her tear down the palace. It’s pretty epic and definitely worth reading the whole series for!
