    I would like to thank you, Ross, for all the help your videos have provided for me over the past year! You helped me find my power to say no and set boundaries. To anyone reading this that is new to this channel, keep watching! Ross changed my life. It is so heartwarming hearing you describe step 9 knowing I'm there. When you made the waitress reference I had to laugh cause the reactions you get from saying no to a narcissist truely are unbelievable.

    Wow Dr Ross this video was so encompassing and illustrative of the 11 steps. I do not have access to a therapist or western books, except kindle as I've been living in China for the last 11 years , but marathoning your videos has been an oasis of sanity and self understanding to self reflect and climb a few steps of that ladder myself towards recovery. I'm now "sober" more self sufficient as a single guy and working on imposing boundaries (at work/friendships first) and recognizing gaslighting which has been immensely helpful, and I can say No now instead of yes to everything for the first time in my life, so I'm getting a taste of having a self and self identity instead of being a people's pleaser. I was able to backtrack it to not feeling (and being) loved as I was by my parents in childhood. Please keep up the great work, I'm your fan!

    Wow, after much counseling and work in co-dependency I learned it is really SLDD. What a revelation!!! I appreciate you being interviewed with Dr. Les Carter. Ya, I was brought up to be other focused, no selfishness allowed. I am happy I don't absorb or engage in induced conversations with a Narc. I now can detatch during low contact. You are terrific! My counseling did discuss self-love, but no techniques, other than self talk. Thank you for the gift of understanding ourselves. I knew we were part of the puzzle. 🙂

    I'm personally right around stage 4 and you just clicked it on for me.
    The love bombing, the little gifts and shit my mother would do for me while she would, on the other hand, guilt trip me and require me to be that little angel everyone else thought I was. I literally, before you said anything, believed I hadn't been gaslighted but it turns out I was.. Whether she meant to do it or not, she absolutely did...

    I am almost to the stage where I am ready to date. It sucks because like you said, if I had received unconditional love and formed my identity back in highschool or late teens I would've been able to find my people and build real relationships. As it stands now, I have nobody and am starting from scratch. But my vision is so much clearer and I am in tune with my intuition and emotions and needs. So much time and experiences I will never get back. Instead I was in survival mode and seeking the familiar abuse unconsciously. I was made the scapegoat of the family and considered a failure and a loser because my family judges and thinks I'm crazy rather than listens to me. It has been a rough ride and to have so much tied to your formative years in childhood is a troubling realization.

    • @RossRosenberg
      @RossRosenberg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I do/did not. However, everything i teach revolved around the concept that you cannot adequately protect your children, while staying frozen in Self-Love Deficit Disorder (Codependency). Like the concept when in an airplane, you have to first put the oxygen mask on yourself before your children. You can't help them if you have not first resolved the problem that keeps you (and your kids) stuck with the abuse. My experience tells me this is the only way.

    The cure is awareness and education that narcissists exists and were responsible for setting boundaries to take care of ourselves. Honoring our feelings is also important since they were ignored and invalidated. Next, building new, healthier relationships and setting and achieving goals to help fulfill one’s life outside of a relationship, and ‘behaving’ the SLD principles on a consistent basis is essential.
    While I’m career driven by nature, I see it’s been a distraction. Taking time to feel, honor, reframe, and replace old toxic feelings and mindset is emotionally exhausting but liberating nonetheless. The emotional intangible work is always the hardest.

    Nice to c u, Ross. It's all new with each painful hit new patterned toxic relationship begins to abuse, darker, it seems each time. So horrific yet I'm learning red flags of dark triad phsychsociopaths. I believemy father is one. Scary n menacing terror yet somewhat familiar. So sad. To get out without attacking punishment on other end...too scared to leave.we can pull out faster. But what about the safety of our families n loved ones? Just when I think I'm getting better, my mates are still very sick. Just terrifying. Don't fall for their Hoover tricks. Would luv to get over it. Peace n luv n wishing for sum kind of hope before they destroy all including lives, young n old. How do we get there? Please help. Losing hope. Losing people

    • @afmario790
      @afmario790 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a quote Ross put in the video... Handling a narcissist in itself is not easy... Dark triad? If you think you have learnt enough to analyze the person as dark triad... You should know it's not an easy escape...
      Start with the question how influential the person is... A narcissist would mostly cut all your contacts to imprison you, and dark triad? He would have read you in and out... Find a therapist...
      I don't mean to be sarcastic... Getting to a prison lying about a crime not committed or getting self into a mental facility is far easier and safer than getting the guy caught or being rescued from him... I just got this idea from the movie final destination2, when you know you cannot escape death and it's patterns... This female who posed to have premonition, gets herself locked in a high secure prison only to escape death... Dealing with a dark triad is like dealing death's pattern... Once you have found out his secret, be will hunt you down...

    • @afmario790
      @afmario790 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just happened to recall because I do not want you to misunderstanding my comment...
      I have been living for last 4 years with a few who have the traits of the same dark triad you speak of...
      The first sign of it was animal cruelty and they enjoy it, they do not have emotions towards their or other's feelings reacting inversely... And they have been forcing me to kill animals... Trying to train me to be a psychopath, triggering my temper when I refuse to do so...
      Can you believe there are females too in this group and this is clearly a sign of psychopaths... I've been warning to vacate them from my compound and they are trying to make me insane... I got out from one place and here I am in my own house and same situation by the same people with the same traits of dark triad... Defense is sleeping not understanding the consequences of these psycho(s)....

    How long does stage 7 last ? He’s been unhinged this whole time - it’s been 3 years but it’s getting worse.
    Everything you said is happening and worsening. I am handling it as well as you can - but wondering how long it lasts. People keep saying “he will let it go sometime” but it’s like he’s angrier over time and more covert over time…
