What's not to like about a Raider? Fantastic gun, and even if you want better, it's completely upgradable! I've gone through a few Raiders in the past few years and usually end up either kit bashing them from recycled, no longer wanted guns, or buying them broken for next to nothing, throwing a few bucks in and making them absolutely competitive. I usually end up passing those along to beginners who otherwise wouldn't be able to find a really decent gun. After all, it's a hobby, right? You have to give back and share the knowledge. :)

G&G makes some quality guns. I remember when I got my Raider almost 4 years ago and it still works! Though I've moved on to more expensive stuff, it's an amazing backup gun.
The Illinois Airsofter what did u move on too then? Would like to know because iam looking for a new and high end weapon
I actually got a G&G SRL and threw about $60 worth of upgrades into it, including a tightbore inner barrel and a flat hop. It's not as high of a price as an expensive krytac but it shoots just as well if not better. Any gun around the $250 mark or higher is what I would consider above an entry-level gun.

A gun that I would recommend, if you are looking for something else than an M4, would be the ASG Scorpion Evo A3, I really like it, it shoots really well out of the box, and is nice, and compact.

I myself am roughly new at one year into this hobby, and I've found guys with a little over 2 decades, and all of us have been unified by this gun. Many still have their original G&G, and the comparison side to side shows how far this Hobby come. I am glad to be part of the new generation of airsofters.

I played 12 years or so, the krytac I run is typically brand new, the combat machine 2.0 is as responsive and gives a awesome touch to time in airsoft guns. It is a Absolute option to response in how I want the gun to feel. I saw the 2.0 for 200 or so, I went for it, I liked the capability and hop up in the new barrels. It works just like any other; in the airsoft fun world, simplicity is key. It’s a very simple airsoft gun to understand. It got a A in my book.
I have had a raider for about 3 years and i love how they are affordable and still packs a punch and i will be purchasing the 2.0E becuase it looks amazing
I love my raider. It’s completely stock except for a paint job. I’ve probably put over 500,000 rounds through it without and repairs or cleaning. In my opinion one of the best entry level guns on the market. Currently I use the G&G predator, but every once in a while I like to pull out the cm16 just because it really is a good fun. Also if I’m ever taking a friend who is new to airsoft I give them my cm16 to use because I know that it will run like a champ, they will have a good time and won’t have to worry about technical issues.
Bought my Raider two years ago and countless games later and without any replacements or maintenance other than cleaning the barrel, it's still going strong. Wonderfull replica.

My son wanted to start playing airsoft, so we just got the original raiders for xmas, it was was most recommended for a starter gun. Can't wait to play this spring with him!! Love your channel!
Thats awesome! I have 3 boys that play with me. Just understand its 100% your responsibility to keep him safe and others hes around. My kids all Must have shop glasses on at ALL times and Full face protection paintball mask when on the battle field. I own 3 raiders they are awesome guns... Always unplug the battery when done. Always shoot a few slow shots in Semiautomatic before you store it. Thats all you really need to do.
LiveFreeOrRIP Thanks for the info! He has wanted to play for a few years but we waited till he was 14. Felt like a more safe age for him in particular. My mom was into shooting (even while pregnant with me back in the day ..lol) and my dad was a cop. I can pass on what they have taught me, and my own experiences, in the armed forces, and hope he will follow. If not we wait till he is ready. We both very excited.

You remind me very much of Adam Savage. I just got the gun today and so far i'm impressed i want to add the pdw stock to mine because i was not able to get it with a short in tan/black.
His voice and mannerisms are kinda similar yeah. I notice it too after reading your comment.

I've not long started Airsoft and went with the standard 2.0. Absolutely love it. First RIF in my stable.

I actually get concerned when I see the rotary hopup. If done properly they can be really good, if done cheaply than can actually be a lot worse than a standard V2 hop unit.
Bought the 2.0 as my first airsoft gun a couple weeks ago, loving it absolutely no regrets, I know it’s just a more modern looking M4 but it looks just like the HK416😍

I'm new to airsoft and this is the AEG that I bought. I hadn't even seen this video yet, so guess I picked decent for a noob. Looking for players in Eastern Oregon and places to play (without having to drive across the state).
If you are ever in Salem there is this really cool airsoft/paintball/lasertag store and field (mostly indoor games) called Warpaint international. And the shop inside is called Extreme Velocity (extreme velocity owns the building but kept the name of Warpaint)
I haven't actually owned a raider... :( I started on a Lancer Multi Mission Carbine, but lots of my friends have them and they love them!!! RE electronic triggers, yeah, I like them, I want to see them in all guns because personally I love burst, but also because of the ability to run lipos.
I started with a CM18 MOD-0 three years ago and never let me down once! In fact, I’ve handed it down to my son for his first game. I’ve since moved on to more ‘premium’ guns such as the VFC 416 & TM 417 but still take a combat machine to every game as a back up......awesome guns!
I’ve had this gun for almost 3 years and it’s still running great
My first ever AEG was a CM16 raider from 3 years ago. It broke in like -2 degree weather in MN cause we still play when it’s cold. My raider is now a wall hanger/momento piece of my entry into the airsoft world
CM16 Raider-L. 3 years. Tight bore barrel is the only change I've ever made. It's a backup or lender gun now but has never ever skipped a beat.
I have the new CM16 L 2.0E and it is great right out of the box. I have upgraded to the polymer MLOk rail to a Dytac aluminum 13" MLOK rail. Great rifle and would recommend to any new player.
Just bought the gen 2 version with the pdw stock. It shoots like a laser right out the box.

Slight correction: There are only 2 versions, both seen in the video, not 4. The long version is the 2.0E, the one with the PDW buttstock, and then there's the short version with the regular crane stock.
I also have moved on to bigger and better but that G&G Raider still hold its own it's awesome
Yup! Got the raider carbine length in desert tan. First M4 I ever bought. Threw in a TBB and it is impressive. Owned for 4+ years.

I was about to buy the CM16 1.0. But after seeing your review I want to buy the 2.0E. What battery and charger do you recommend?

I just bought this because it was one of the cheaper AEGs. I've been running with GBBs, yeah - 30 shots a mag. PTS AR-15 is usually my primary. I thought I'd try switching to AEG and give it a go; this gun was like £140, which is like.. CHEAP. I didn't realise how much quality you can get for such a small price-tag compared to the GBBRs out there. I've spent £1250 + on GBBRs (for film and media) because we need realism. I'm actually really looking forward to this arriving now!

I love my CM16 and still use it for CQB myself and as a loaner to this day. Just upgraded it to a TBB and it's perfect for indoors.
In germany you don't use NiMhs we use only LiPo battery's
I recently took my original Raider out to AMS Reindeer Games 16 in TX and it performed great, even in the cold rain. I wasn't expecting it to run like some of the higher-end guns did, but it held it's own. Hopefully I'll be getting the 2.0 soon.
I got my Raider 2 years ago and it still works great, I put a cover over the orange tip and when I hand it to my friends they think they're holding a real AR-15

I still have a raider from a year ago that I haven't used yet. It's a backup for my Krytac. Others have used it and said great things about it, I but I have yet to fire a round out of it. Great video.

I just started airsoft 2 months ago and the 2.0 was my 1dt purchase heard nothing but good things about it love it I highly recommend it for a starter gun
Picked up the raider-l 2.0 e and fielded it the other day. Very accurate and more then able to reach out to 150 feet out od the box and mine was shooting at 395fps out of the box. Crazy good starter gun
I remember my G&G CM-16 Raider!! The 14.5" carbine barrel with the quad polymer rails! Still some of the nicest polymer rails I've seen!
Hey I’m Johnny and I still own my raider haha . My buddy picked up the raider 2.0 and I can say it feels more comfortable and shoots way better !! I think ima pick up the 2.0 myself
I live in South Africa and I have just bought a G&G CM16 raider 2.0 as a first gun. I am really impressed with the feel of the weapon as well as the weight. For us the price is in the mid 3k range and with the currency conversion it's about 175 dollars US and taking into account markup and import costs it's really not bad.

G&G cm16 raider was the first real airsoft gun I bought back in 2012-ish at Oregon airsoft arena.
My first "pro" line AEG was the CM16 Raider DST high muzzle velocity version. A great gun to say the least. Lightweight, durable and efficient - plus full RIS front. Great buy for a beginner.
So in all the Raiders 2.0 you can program the 3 round burst?
No only the E version
The only thing i miss here is QSC gearbox. Guys, please!!!! Start to make more QSC gearboxes. It's so much easier!
I have the CM16 Raider 2.0 i installed a perun mosfet ball bearing bushings and another spring for more fps. Also an aluminium trigger and i custom the outer barrel so the supressor is integrated from the front M-lok and a holo sight on top, and a M-lok angle grip on the front

I put a bore up kit, metal air nozzle with a oring, m120 spring, and a prowin hop up with a flat hop mod and 6.01mm inner barrel and it ended up at 450fps so they can push some pretty good numbers with a few fairly inexpensive upgrades

I bought the combat raider 2.0 in 2020 and it shoots at 330 FPS but I put a metal compensator, red dot replica, angled foregrip nothing internally done and its amazing. Also, the stock it comes is adjustable and the grip is very good but you can make it look so sick and stock sights are very similar to Warzone M4 if you prefer thatZ
I got my normal g&g cm16 about 5 6 years ago when I first started and is still my primary to this day never has given me days trouble only in last year it's got few upgrades such as high torque motor m120 spring and a fresh green g&g rubber even tho never needed it still best gun I own hands down
Cm16 line in general have a beautiful trigger response i have the cm16 srs and I live it
I've owned 2 base combat machines (1 ebb and 1 non ebb) 1 electric raider, and I still have one of the greatest guns ever built WITH the original box! The super rare GBBR raider V2 that was only produced in 2014. (I can send it to you to review if you want)
My only gripes, aesthetically, is that I woulda liked to see the rail on the short version extend out another inch or two, and that the pdw stock would be a better fit on the short version, as I find pdw stocks on 14.5-16" rifles to be severely out of place.
Otherwise, they look awesome and I might pick one up, should I ever actually find the time and funds to get into airsoft. T.T

My first gun was a CM16 raider (as seen in my pic) I'm running an ARP9 now, definitely love G&G.
There are some great 'budget' guns for less than $200, CM Raider is amongst the best. I went down the AK route as a beginner on a tight budget so haven't owned one - but it's probably the top #3 options I recommend to new players looking for their first AEG.
If you're based in the UK, expect to see a lot more of G&G through 2018 as Nuprol are the official UK distributers, this should help increase the stock availability over here.

First and foremost: Awesome channel man. Fantastic. I love how descriptive you are in all of your reviews on these airsoft guns. You seem to have a lot of knowledge on airsoft, so I really want to ask you instead of any of the other airsoft youtubers I've stumbled upon a question. I'm really trying to get into the sport but I have been so hesitant on buying a gun. I wanna buy cheap, but I don't wanna make a mistake. I have done some research and I have pretty much boiled down to buying the Lancer Tactical Gen 2 M4, or the gun in this video. I'm pretty much after efficiency here.. What gun really works better?
I find it interesting that they made a better gun that we prefer over the previous raider. But clients prefer the old price point. It's harder to sell now.
i own 4 G&G guns and they are loaners and they have seen enough abuse and they just keep going. They make a good rifle for the money. If you are looking around that 100 150 range the game is the CM. at the 200 range things start to change a little.

I loved my raider! It was my first proper airsoft gun. This one looks alot better as well. I may pick one up as a backup gun tbh!
The original Raider-L is still my go-to rifle when I don't feel like running my M14. My personal preference has always been with the pre-built RIS handguards on an M4; I really don't feel like spending extra money on top just to mount one accessory, and I just don't like the looks of the M-Lok or Keymod handguards.
I've owned 2 G&G's my first ever M4 was a CM regular hand guard and I just literary bought a GR15 yesterday! I wish I saw these coming! :( definitely new built in tightbore and working charging handle is going to help this line up a lot
Thank you for the great review Jonathan. So my son and I want to get our start in airsoft but we are on a very tight budget. Of course that led us to look at Lancer Tactical’s Gen 2’s like the 19TL. I enjoyed your review of the Lancer also. Again serious strict budget restraints. How would you compare?

I bought it from amozon it was a scam kinda but I knew it was 230 for the gun so like 50$ extra. I think it's still prob worth it if it last like 7-10 years

My son has one for a back up and just today at the field he loaned his raider out to friend who’s gun wasn’t working right... I have a very old raider back up that I had to use at a milsim west event when my echo one full metal got broke in half.... my cm saved my event... but sadly my CM is now dying.... I like the look of the new one may need another one for a new back up....
This looks like a perfect backup gun for me.
At this point, I'd imagine that MOSFET and electronic trigger manufacturing is pretty cheap, so adding them into the cost of the gun shouldn't raise the price too much. I hope to see both on the budget guns in the near future because moar burst moar better, but it seems like a lot of the premium offerings have yet to catch up as well. Also, if you're taking possibly-unsolicited suggestions for videos, I'd love to see a comparison video on a few brands of optics you have lying around... maybe line up a few red dots in one vid, a couple of 4x scopes in one, etc. An optics 101, if you please, sir!
my first gun was a g&g raider (no surprise their) but I've since passed it on to a friend but I think I'm gonna get one of these as a backup to take with me since I run a HPA setup and if those go down your screwed till you get home

G&G have, in recent years, taken up much of the spot that TM held for years. Quality, long lasting and good value for money. In my opinion at least.
My buddies got Raiders, I got the SRS 7". They're jealous.
Does the regular version ( not the E model) have the electronic trigger unit? Or is it just the E model??

I have a cm16 short. Wish I had got the long version...oh well it's a great gun and has never let me down yet. kinda bummed because I told myself I would buy another primary until this one breaks....still waiting!

i own a raider, and for my first gun......its amazing, but i own a different type of raider with no flip up sights. just an iron sight that you can screw on and off
I have a CM16 raider and I love it
I just got the extended version and i must say i find the stock a bit small to fit my 7.4lipo easily. But very happy with it overall.
Have you had any issues after using it with a lipo battery ? Thinking of buying one but I’m afraid to buy a lipo and fry it lol
