Sterkmann Vs Peak Design Tech Pouch: The Perfect Budget Clone?

  • Thank you for watching.. In this video I share with you the Sterkmann Tech Pouch. This organizer is a exact copy in design of the Peak Design Tech Pouch. The Sterkmann is missing the YKK zippers and the higher quality fabric but it does organize your tech. And I think that is the point right?

Great comparison, but at only around 20 bucks price difference I'd still go with the real deal from PD. Innovation should be rewarded. Also, Peak Design has proven to be an awesome, customer oriented company with great ethics. Personally, I have no problem spending more on a product from a company that I truly can identify with.

I got the Sterkmann bag a couple of years ago. It has served me well on three trips to SE Asia. I really like the way that it can open right up in the middle and that was the design feature that sold me on it. I generally like Peak Design products but they are way over-priced and I feel that I am getting gouged. Thanks for your efforts here.

PD has an eBay store that sells “refurbished” pouches. They have the tech pouch for $50.
Plus I’d rather support innovative companies that design stuff rather than companies that simply rip off other companies.

Thank you for this awesome review. I was almost going to try the Sterkmann but your review helped slide the scale to the Peak Design. One thing that I noticed right away was the lighter color on the inside of the PD made it easier to see what was in it. Plus I own other PD products and have never had an issue. Love the review.

Thanks George, I opted for Sterkmann's tech pouch because the possibility of opening the central section allows it to contain larger objects, such as a Nintendo Switch (without remove joycons) or a large powerbank. Thanks for the video

I was thinking the same thing about about the interior color and then you mentioned it. Overall, I feel the same way in terms of an organization pouch. It stays in my nice EDC bag so I can't imagine it falling apart anytime soon. Nothing wrong with saving $20 here and using that towards another bag (I have too many bags) lmao

Got the sterkmann. Had for a month or two. it’s fine for the price - but I kinda wish I bought the PD. 2 things differ predominantly: Firstly, interior dark lining is annoying compared to a light. It’s hard to see smaller stuff. Secondly, and most damn importantly, the build quality is immensely higher on the PD. I don’t have the pd tech pouch, but I have the travel bag 45L, the messenger v1 13” and the backpack 30L.
The stitching on the sterkmann comes loose. The outside loops that you can put a strap to, are only sewn on with 4 points, instead of alle through and reinforced. I can see the stretching of it after just one afternoons use, and I am not gonna risk it again. It’s fine for popping in and out of bags but you cannot rely on the stitching quality. Dish ot the 20 bucks more for the PD.
Other areas has loose threads I have to cut off, and it does not seem to be left over thread - it seems as the locked threads are coming undone.

George? I’ve been traveling more lately. Do you code or design your carry system for flying? Example some of my EDC Pouches have SAKs or Multitool. When I travel I have a lot stress making sure I put the right pouch in checked versus carryon. I was thinking about paracord wrapping the handles to differentiate visually.

    • @GeorgeDEFINED
      @GeorgeDEFINED  4 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't travel that much.. Maybe 4 - 5 times a year.. My motto is keep it simple! Two large packing cubes and I'm ready to go.

O.K. George. My husband complained that has nothing for me for Christmas. So I went ahead and ordered the Sterkman Tech Pouch as a present for me. Hubby is happy, and so am I. The fact that you can have this puppy totally flat is a real plus for me over the Peak Design. It is not like that that I do not have like...10 pouches for cables, chargers, etc. But these two look really cool, so I thought I may try the budget version. Let's see how it holds my stuff! Maybe even the little camera I have lying around...

Here is the question for you, do they Sterkman pay livable wages for their factory workers, do they use blue signed approved materials? The only thing I like about the copycat pouch is the blue interior. The huge logo really sucks on the front. Maybe this Sterkman is an subsiderary of Amazon, because besides the Amazon Basic label, they have several other brand names.
Another thing to consider is how accessible do the cheaper materials make getting to your tech? How easy it zips, how hard is it to get out of the fabric not as stretchy pockets. Ease of use is also well thought out of in the PD Tech Pouches and bags. I definitely not buy a copy because it is a patent that they are ignoring.

I was in the same boat. I like Peak Design stuff. But some of it is just too over priced. I bought the Tech Pouch yesterday, because of all the reviews and the hype. But, it was very disappointing. Not as big as ppl were clamming. Plus, $60 bucks? I took it back today. I rather spend that $60 bucks on more SD cards, or something useful. PD has a lot of ppl coping there backpacks, in all. But, I DO NOT support buying copy's of anything. GREAT video btw.

Just an FYI never buy Peak Design products at full price. Use the eBay Peak Design site and purchase their products used at a discount. All of their items are Certified Pre Owned and carry their lifetime warranty all you have to do is register them once you buy them. I bought all of my Peak design products from them in this way. It is a great value and you won’t have to compromise your quality as well because they have been tested. Hope his helps from one bargain searching brother to another! Enjoy!
