Yay Shogun! One of my all time favourites and so glad it held up on the re-read! Have to get to Saga. Will have to check out the channels you mentioned. I have been contemplating doing this tag.
Shogun was such a great book - I never would have even thought to pick it up had you not bought it for me. You are a very good judge of my reading taste!
I love watching these videos! It’s so much fun hearing all the stats, faves, least faves, etc. It was an absolute turd. 💩 Thank you for confirming that I do not need to read Ulysses. I’m excited about Private Rites too! I just requested Praiseworthy from my local library. Fingers crossed that they order it. Just finished Little Rot. It was a wild ride. Definitely check the trigger warnings. It’s rough. In Defence Of The Act was a nice surprise for me too! I love when prizes pick smaller publishers. Yes! And So I Roar! I’m excited for that one as well. I just got an ARC of The Fertile Earth on audio. I’m so excited to get into it! No need to be accountable on only picking one. I picked more than one for almost every question too. 😅 Some I even picked three. Roro is fantastic! I love his channel as well. He’s one of my favorite review channels. I found Gretchen this year too through the women’s prize. I binge watched so many of her review videos. Aww thank you! I’m in the middle of a 12 hour work shift, so this was a nice pick me up. You’re so sweet. It’s nice to hear that I come across homegrown instead of spacey and rambling. 😅 I adore your channel as well. We do have a lot to crossover in our reading tastes. Looking forward to a fantastic end of the reading year!
Definitely don’t bother with Ulysses matey 😂💩 A Wild ride? I’m more excited for the Emezi now!! I’m very jealous that you have an arc of The Fertile Earth - can’t wait to hear your thoughts 🤩 Let’s hope we keep reading amazing books in the second half of the year 🤞🏻
Finishing your video with Scott is usually right feels correct. 😜 Some excellent Booktubers you're shouting out. We need to swap notes on anticipated releases, I just finished And So I Roar and it's every bit as good as The Girl with the Loudjng Voice, if anything its even better. I can't wait to hear you thoughts on Little Rot, it's good, but, it's going to upset some people, and I have been lucky enough to get an ARC of The Fertile Earth, which now that I think about it, you might have put on my radar to begin with.
Shogun is wonderful! Hard to believe I read it 50 years ago - lol. I read a lot of Michener, Uris and Rutherford back then. So many awesome books!! Praiseworthy sounds good. I've put it on my TBR. My biggest surprise and most enjoyable reads so far this year has been the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. I have now finished 9 of them in about 4 months which is very unusual for me to read any series back to back so quickly. I did warn you about Useless - lol. I really must try one of the Expanse books. ❤❤❤
Shogun is timeless for sure! I have a couple of Rutherford’s on my TBR to get to at some point (but they are rather intimidating 😬) I can’t believe how quickly you’ve read that series! I might have to pick one up!!
@@GemofBooks Kate Daniels is pure entertainment - urban fantasy filled with all kinds of were-creatures and disgusting monsters. I simply could not face any serious subjects and was just reading for the escape from the difficulties of life.
How anyone can stick to just one choice for favorites is beyond me 😉I still can’t pick a favorite book so far 🤦♀️ I’ve discovered a few great books from prizes, Shadows at Noon by Jova Chatterjee, which I’m so working my way through and Lojman by Ebru Ojen but then have been loving back list books too and have read some excellent short story collections this year.
I haven’t attempted to tackle Shadows at Noon yet, but I do want to get to it at some point. I did read Wifedom from the NF list last month though and really loved it. I haven’t heard of Lojman - I’ll have to check that one out.
I've finished 107 so far Best book (currently) The Witch's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec (I'm currently reading Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus and it's gunning for the top spot and I think the titan will fall) Most read genre Historical fiction Worst book (personal) Girls against god by Jenny Hval Best Sequel A Restless Truth by Freya Marske New release i Havn't read A Botanical Daughter by Noah Medlock (I just found a book called Providence Girls by Morgan Dante which has very strong Our Wives under the sea vibes) Anticipated releases for the 2nd ½ of the year The Night Guest by Hildur Knutsdottir Heavely Tyrant by Xiran Jay Zhao Fury of the Gods by John Gwynne Biggest disappointment After World by Debbie Urbanski Surprising Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See She Would be King by Wayétu Moore Best character Elizabeth from Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus Most anticipated read The Last Tale of The Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi Booktube rising Star Vanessa Gamoo reads Books that didnt make it on the modified tag list -Dragon Rider by Taran Matharu -The Hidden Guardian by J.D.L Rosell -Taken by the Witch Queen by Luna Fury -The Midnight Girls by Alicia Jasinska -Godzilla x Kong by Greg Keyes -No Gods No Monsters by Cadwell Turnbull -Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
Gretchen & Andy are brilliant I completely agree. Loved In Defence of The Act. Such a great book. ❤
They are lovely!
What would you say your favourite prize book has been this year?
Whey!! Bless your heart for the shout out gem :) Stella work as always x
Of course matey! Everyone needs a bit of Roro in their lives 🤩
Just spat out my tea when you called Ulysses a “turd”! 😂
😂😂😂 well we all know that’s what it is, right?! 😜

Thanks for the shout out. You’re way too kind!!! Also look at you convincing me to add Shogun to my TBR! It sounds amazing!
You’re very welcome matey.
You will not regret reading Shogun, so so awesome 🤩
Your top 2 books I want to read. Loved Charlie’s contributions to this video. 😊💙
You should absolutely read both!
Charlie was very proud of his addition 😂😂
Love the addition of the question about the book you were introduced to because of a prize. Would love to see other booktubers do this!
Thanks matey. I read so many prize books it seemed remiss to leave it out ☺️

Loved Soldier Sailor. You just reminded me that I need to order Private Rites and inspired me to give Saga a try. 😊
I hope you give Saga a go - it’s so so good!

How have you read all the books I want to read already!! Now I am even more hyped for them all though. 🤩🤩🤩
Soldier Sailor was a stunner. I didn't know you had read Crooked Plow. It was oddly engaging.
It was wasn’t it!? I wasn’t sure about it to start with, and then ended up really loving it 🥰

You've convinced me that I need to try Saga at some point, my library has the first four, but maybe if I like them I can convince them to buy more.
Do it! They are so short, it’s not high stakes 🤩

Just reading Becky Chambers A Psalm for the Wild Built, as you recommended the author...absolutely beautiful book
Yay!! I’m so glad you’re loving it. Becky Chambers books are so lovely 🥰

Brotherless Night was a five star for me too, definitely worthy of a best of the year position!!!
