  • I was looking for an extended porch 2 man plus dog tunnel. Here is a comparison review of the Vango xenon UL 2+ and Jack Wolkskin Lighthouse ll rt Tunnel tents. Full pitch of both and night on the moors in the winner.
    Enjoy!

    Jack Wolfskin a superior tent. Sneaky door is for when it’s raining and won’t let as much water in. The weight difference is in the poles and fabric
    The ventilation seems better too

    Camping World have the JW for £300. It's a nice tent. Good size inside, though not tall. It's one of the few two man tents I'd share with another man (!). My good points are that it does have a huge amount of extra space for gear (though too small for a bike really), and for titting about, potentially cooking etc. But this space would still be hard to sit up in on a stool, you will be kneeling. It looks well made and strong in the elements. My downside is that for some trips you are carrying this extra space when you don't need it (just be outside in a smaller tent and save yourself at least a kilo), and I think on rocky ground any tent that needs so many pegs to stay up will be a pain (much harder to attach the lower part of the tent to the ground with rocks than guys). I think it is perfect for trips where you think it might rain, and you want some kind of internal space, that you can still put in a backpack (especially sharing load between two people). Maybe it would be good if it had a stove space, but then that's not recommended with a tent that would turn into a firework if a spark touched it.

      Good comment. I sold it on for those reasons. Good car camping tent though.
      The fjallraven abisko shape 2 or my own sydvang skaring 2p are better options for backpacking. Cheers

      @@Fellmandave1 Doing the GR20 next year, but double pace. Usually I go ultralight and solo, but might this time share a tent. Are these two your recommendation? Especially with potentially rocky ground.

    So are you sticking with the jack wolfskin? I was about to buy the vango but worried about internal length, I'm 6'4", do you think I'd fit? Thought it was only 2.1m bed length but I think you said 2.4m? Cheers, great review.

      Hi, yes sticking with the Jack Wofskin Michael. Its a weight versus features issue. The JW is a lot more tuneable in terms of ventilation and will be stronger in adverse conditions. , space is similar. i have found some rather hidden testing here www.outdoor-magazin.com/zelte/12-alleskoenner-fuer-campingplatz-und-rucksacktour/ it translates to english and you can click on the lighthouse. There is video of them nuking them with their wind machine too. Horrific but compulsive viewing.

      @@Fellmandave1 wow. Some of them can really withstand a pounding. Not sure I'll be out in any weather that bad! 😂

    I'm choosing between these exact two tents at the moment. The jack wolfskin seems better in every way except it's approx £80 more and the fly sheet is 1500 HH which seems a little low, have you had any issues with rain getting through?

      @Fellmandave1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ben. Have only had one night of intermittent heavy rain , with no wind and there were no issues.
      I would say lightweight and moderate conditions, vango..longer stays and more wind, jack wolkskin

      @@Fellmandave1 Lets not say anything about the noticeable weight difference, the retail price vs the bang for buck, VANGO all the way. i found the ul2+ for less than 250 quid NEW I am however biased being from Scotland!

    It seems that the Jack Wolfskin is roomier than the Vango; the shape of the poles and the resulting high vertical and perimeter walls increases width. We never feel the fabric over the face. But both take many time to pitch. I think I would go for the first one.
    By the way, between my 14 and 23 years old I had been a Scout too.

    The Jack tent looks nice but for me in australia its going to cost $1000 not including shipping, the vango is half the price.. As for winds.. I got a $100 hiking dome tent that held up to 100 km/h (62 mi/h) so if a cheap tent can handle that then I'd say the vango could easy handle it
