  • The Eton elite 750 added two attenuation methods, Attenuators and RF Gain control, it is really needed with external antennas

If the radio is overloading on a strong signal that you want to listen to even when using rf gain etc simply switch to internal antenna with the switch provided . Job done !

I've begun to discover, as a ham operator on the HF bands, proper tweaking of the 2 settings makes loads of difference for me. The attenuator reduces everything coming in from the antenna... including QRN (static). The RF gain operates at a different part of the receiver chain. There's usually a sweet spot with att on, and adjusting rf gain downward, where the signal/noise ratio is best, with the lowest amount of noise compared to the signal. There's a bunch of qso's I would have missed before I learned to balance those.

Your sincerity and truth on this shortwave radio are truly appreciated. Based on your information, I have this question: What shortwave radio would you recommend to anyone who is a serious shortwave listener? The flows this radio features are too important and too many to even consider buying it, so the only choice is finding an alternative. Your help will be appreciated.

Good points .Bc I live in a medium size costal area my 750 only occasionally over loads. Imo I think Eton has production variances with the 750 . Some come out working better than others . If they could lower the price to the $300 range and improve the wide/narrow switch and quirks , and quality control it could be great I bet . Thanks for posts .

Though I’m currently loving my C Crane Skywave SSB for its purposes, I really wish it had some kind of gain or attenuation controls!
