    @alfietlp 4 ปีที่แล้ว +216

    aww, jimmy is such a nice husband, he pretends to accidentally knock the bowl over to give ichang more kuah.😂
    jokes aside, A+ for the effort. even if roti canai is one of our staple food, i dont think a lot malaysians actually made them in home because of how common this is and how easy to find a place selling it. and on top of that you guys trying it with sugar and condense milk is amazing. anything over 3 pcs is too much though, i usually have 1 or 2 with a small pack of nasi lemak.
    i think your dough doesnt stretch and keep sticking because its not oily enough? everytime i go to mamak and see them making it they always put a lot of oil, there isnt strict rules to a lot of malaysian cooking.. it's always "agak agak" (just estimating) and our food is way more unhealthy than a lot of other country's foods because we always use so much salt, sugar, and oil.

    As a Malaysian overseas I can totally relate to the experience of resorting to making Malaysian favourites at home out of desperation 😂 instead of using butter, roti canai works better with planta (unmelted). Also, don’t put it in the fridge to rest, leave it outside. My mum used to run a restaurant so it’s where I learned the tricks 😋

    iChang, local people use margarine/cooking oil rather than butter when making the dough and when rolling the dough because butter from milk is too expensive here. When rolling the dough the table and our hands are drenched in margarine/cooking oil so it will be easier

    another way to cook curry is to fry the curry paste with the onion,without marinating the chicken..and then cook the potato and chicken together for few minutes..add a little bit of water if it too dry...dont put too much because water will come out from the chicken...when you feel like the water has dried a bit,add coconut milk,salt to taste..and you are basically done..

    Roti canai really is addicting especially during this MCO 😭 I’d tried making one before, but it turned out as ‘lempeng’ because of the thickness. Making roti canai (to me) is already considered a skilled profession. It needs a deliberate ‘spread’ of the roti so that the thickness can be keep as minimum as possible. But your determination is already laudable by many since most of Malaysian failed at first attempt. You can’t eat a lot of roti canai at once since it’ll cause nausea. The way to eat it properly is by consuming two pieces per meal maximum or you wont be able to finish it. Anyway, sugoiidesu!

      Muhamad Fakhri since I’m a bit bored so I think there’s more I could do to fill up my time at home. Polishing my kitchen skills as an amateur cook could practically help to serve myself more our local dishes in the future should I be away from the country. Making roti canai was counted as the first step. Though, it can’t be considered as perfect but there’s more than it met the eye. Through relentless effort, I’ll try to reduce the error I’d made accordingly. 🤓

    Orang Jepun kalau buat sesuatu dia akan study macam mana prosesnya. Dan setiap proses dipastikan memenuhi kriteria, piawaian dan kualiti yg dikehendaki. Mereka tak fokus kepada hasil akhir tapi fokus pada setiap step dalam proses sesuatu benda (Process-oriented). Jadi bila proses-proses tu dibuat dengan betul pasti hasil akhir akan berkualiti. Tak kisahlah proses nak buat makanan ke, buat kereta ke, robot ke apa-apa aje. Pengalaman melihat sendiri proses pembuatan kereta jenama Jepun yang sangat teliti dalam setiap step. Sebab itu hasil dan produk mereka sangat berkualiti. Terbaek mereka berdua ni cuba buat roti canai dari step zero (scratch), yg mana kebanyakan kita mungkin tak pernah buat. Makanan Malaysia pulak tu 😂

    Guys, you can actually cook it half-cook or partially cook the dough and then put them in storage plastic bags and throw them in the freezer. You can enjoy it anytime you want. In Malaysia there are a lot of frozen roti canai sold in Tesco, Giant, AEON etc. And a lot of frozen roti canai made from homecooks that we can order or COD. Hope this tips satisfy your cravings and no need to always make them when you’re craving

    The texture and the color of curry remind me of "Kari Dhal" which is the combination of Curry and 'Dhal Sauce(kuah Dhal)'. You did a good job for the first try and yeah, flipping the Canai Dough is not an easy job and require experience and skill. Maybe next time you could pick another curry recipe from local Malay's recipe or maybe indian curry to get the closest taste possible~ : )

    In Malaysia, Chicken Curry is basically the Kari Ayam that you made. And we eat it with rice, roti canai, roti jala (but the curry for roti jala is usually a little lighter in texture - almost watery). But if you were to order "chicken curry" from an indian restaurant, they will ask you to be more specific because they have sooooo many types of curry. (ie. korma, tikka masala). I hope that makes sense. Basically, if you dump in every known indian spices in a pot, that becomes a curry! haha.

    One think that I remember when my father making the roti canai was the water+condense milk+salt(mix together with appropriate mesurement,the taste should be balance between sweetness and saltiness) and some yis (not sure if butter was include in the dough tho, been too long since my father made it) but no egg added to the dough tho and plenty off oil when you making the smaller portion( leave the main dough(also cover the surface with oil) awhile before making the the smaller portion). After finished making the smaller dough, cover each the dough with oil and wrap the dough as per the step you did and leave it overnight. When you doing the shaping of the dough you need plenty on oil on the surface for easy reshape it. Well that it a bit of knowledge making the roti canai that I knew, hope that can be some help in the future if you gonna try make it. (BTW this is according to what my father do when he made it maybe their is some other method to making the roti canai)
